Despite the monstrous bulk of Charles I & V's palace, the Alhambra retains a magic all of its own. The Nasrid kingdom of Granada comes to life as one walks through its magnificently decorated rooms, and in the Courtyard of the Lions, with each lion representing one of the twelves tribes of Israel, one is reminded of the halcyon days when Jews, Christians and Muslims lived together in total harmony. It can be crowded in season.
