“Loved it!”

Who knew there was so much to learn about Olive's and Olive oil? Beatrice toured us yesterday morning, and she gave a tremendous tour. She really is a great ambassador for the olive oil industry, and her enthusiasm for it is contagious.

We only did the 3 hour option, but it was great. They shuttled us to an olive grove where we got to learn about the trees themselves and how they are grown and picked, then they shuttled us to an incredibly well-restored ancient mill, and then finally a 1-minute walk to their tasting room where we got to taste several different olive oils side-by-side.

As we were coming from the Alumencar area, we drove ourselves and met-up with the tour group in a parking lot in the quaint village of Niguela. The meeting place was very easy to find, and the directions from their website were well-done and easy-to-follow. Their is even a fountain in the parking lot to fill your water bottles before the tour.

Unlike many tours in Spain, we were able to sign-up for an English-only tour so our guide was able to convey a lot more information within the time available. When I signed-up for this tour and tasting, I thought the price was a little steep, but by the end I realized how well-priced it was. They do a great job providing value for the money.

“Simply a Great Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2013

I highly recommend this tour. We did the morning tour with lunch as part of our family reunion and all was worth the time and money! Beatriz was a very knowledgeable guide and made the tour interesting and fun. The tour of the 15th century mill and tasting session was great and we learned so much about olive growing and production through the ages. Lunch at a local restaurant and some of the best food on our entire trip. A wonderful day! Thanks Beatriz and Paco!

“Must Do!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

We had the pleasure of booking the 6 hour Olive Oil Tour (http://www.oliveoiltour.com/) recently. We were a party of 10 and along with a couple of other English speakers; we were greeted promptly at the statute of Queen Isabella and Columbus by Beatrice. The group was transported to the picturesque village of Nigüelas, south of Granada by about 25 minutes. Beatrice provided a very informative and entertaining narrative about the olive groves, the methodology of growing, harvesting and producing, the history of an ancient mill, beautifully preserved, and of course, the tasting. She is a superb representative of this organization. Indeed all the staff we encountered was very welcoming and helpful. We had the opportunity to sample multiple different types of olive oil, learn the do-s and more importantly the do-nots of buying and using olive oil and of course the chance to purchase olive oil and products made with olive oil. They will package your purchases for safe transport in your luggage or ship for you.

Afterwards, we were treated to a delicious meal at Mason La Buhardilla, Plaza de los Magnolios, Durcal. The photos at the oliveoiltour.com site are very representative of what you will be eating. Lastly before returning back to Granada, you will be taken to a vista point over the Lecrin Valley with splendid views of the reservoir, white-washed villages and gorgeous citrus orchards.

You should definitely add this experience to your trip to the region.

Note: this tour, as with a lot of places in this region involves walking on cobblestones, and over or up steps. In and of itself it is not a difficult walk, mainly on level ground, however it is probably not practical for those wheelchair bound. See their FAQs for details.

“Few hours of Enlightment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

Have a couple of hrs in hand and want to know what you are using everyday is right or wrong
Then a visit to this place is a must at the foot hills of the mountain in Granada
This small little town with its narrow cobblestone lanes , beautiful flora and warm people will suddenly take u back in a time capsule as you enter the doors of the centuries old olive oil factory.
The history of the olives from how they are picked till the time of process and comes on to your table and kitchen is beautifully explained by
Beatrice Arenas ( likes of Steven Spielberg to the company)
U come back a changed person
Hola!! Beatrice
