Cafe La Cala is a rare find: excellent breakfast, starting at 7:00 am, truly rare in Granada, really nice pastries, and outstanding gelato. We've tried them all. It's a small, local shop, filled with regulars and they are friendly to strangers. It's located at San Jan de Dios 52, (telephone 958 29 60 92). We stayed at hostel El Zaguan. From there, go out the front door, turn right. Walk two very short blocks to the main street, turn right. It's on your right, the second or third door.

Stopped around 11.30 am after walking for a few hours around the city. It was the first and the last place in Spain where they had Large cups of cappuccino - how I missed those after wonderful but tiny (for me) cups of cafe con leche.

The prices were very affordable - for example, cafe con leche i tostada for EUR 2. We had 'sandwiches' and they were very very good. I personally loved the location - it's right in the middle of busy street, did not feel touristy, I think most of passersby were locals.

Menu was available in English, and the server spoke good English as well.

Althought it is a great little place to have a "merienda" with good coffee and great bakery at afternoons, it's literally the worst place I've had breakfast in Granada and I live here since almost three years. Orange juice gave my a stomache-ache plus I had to pour almost the entire sugar cane on it and the Tostada (fresh bred with toppings) was everything but fresh made: frozen bread in a country where everyone goes out for breakfast at Sundays? Really? Well, that was a huge dissappointment, specially when it wasn't cheap at all.

Good little modern cafe. Good breakfast (toast, coffee and fantastic fresh OJ) at sensible price. Also good to pop in for a quick coffee, lunch or ice-cream. Staff all very helpful and friendly, spanish newspapers and air con which makes it a great place to retreat to on a hot day.
