“Unique experience in Granada”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2012

This is a very unique place to stay. It has a nice cozy feel to it, and the hosts, Carmen & Rafa are very friendly and helpful. The upstairs patio is unbelievable, with the views of the Alhambra at night. The apt is in the most interesting part of town, and is within walking distances of most major attractions nearby. Carmen met us at the pick-up point and got us oriented so we could find our way back to the apt by ourselves. We were in apt #4 which faces the street. It’s dark and cool inside, but that is appreciated when it is 30C+ outside. The apt is small but functional. The kitchen has what is needed to prepare meals in it, and the sleeping area is very quiet as it faces the inner courtyard. We found the place to be very authentic for the neighborhood and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

I stayed at El Número 8 for five nights last week whilst attending a course in Granada. A traditional Arab house built on two storeys around a central patio, has been divided into six units, one of which provides the owners’ accommodation, and the other five have been converted into small, self-catering apartments. As you would expect of a substantially medieval property, rooms are small and plainly decorated. The apartments are equipped with everything that you need and Rafa and Carmen, the owners are warm and welcoming, eager to make your stay an enjoyable one. The welcome begins when you are greeted at the meeting point on the edge of this pedestrian zone, by Rafa who then guides you down the steep, narrow streets to your accommodation; he also then takes you further along the street to indicate the route down into the centre of town, and the signs to follow to get back to El Número 8. I enjoyed my stay and will certainly go back. Before you decide whether it is right for you, there are one or two things you should know. Firstly, the Albaicín district is built on the steep side of the valley beneath La Alhambra. You will have to do a lot of steep climbing up or down the streets, as there is no way you can get transport to the door. Secondly, this is a medieval district with plumbing (especially disposal of waste waters) to match; the small bore of the pipes means that soiled toilet paper has to be placed in a bin in the bathroom, and NOT down the toilet which cannot cope with any paper, and would block. If you are of a delicate or sensitive disposition in these matters, El Número 8 is probably not for you. Thirdly, I have a blog in which I have just written about the Albaicín and which can give you extra information; you’ll find it at http://payasorujubilado.blogspot.com

Room Tip: All rooms face onto a central patio. The area is a quiet oasis away from the crowds of Granada. All...

In the heart of the Albayzin neighborhood of Granada, this apartment had everything that we needed for a comfortable visit. As has been mentioned before, the roof terrace has an excellent view of the Alhambra. I was traveling with my 80 year old father and his wife and the hill from the Plaza Nueva proved to be too much for them. Taxi service to the door is not possible.

I booked this apartment as I was looking for somewhere that was good value, and in a good location to stay with my boyfriend. El 8 did not disappoint!

I was blown away by the location - the rooftop view of the Alhambra was spectacular, especially at night, and the apartment itself was absolutely perfect for a few nights. We stayed in apartment #5, which has a little kitchenette and a bathroom just outside the door, which was no problem at all. The bathroom is for the sole use of #5, and it even had a little heater to make sure it was cosy after a shower - very welcome as it was freezing in Granada when we were there!

There is a small minibar which was great for late night drinks if the shops had closed and there's a little shop and a great cafe just along the road which does an incredible breakfast.

I was really impressed with all the little touches in El 8, they really made it feel like a home to come back to at the end of a long day sightseeing. It was very quiet (both the area and the apartment), and Rafa was on hand when we needed to ask any questions. All in all I cannot recommend El 8 highly enough, if I could go back tomorrow I would!

Room Tip: Apartment #5 was perfect for 2 people.

Lots of other travellers have already sung the praises of this place, so all we can do is to echo their comments. "El numero ocho" is in a fantastic location with great roof terrace views of the Alhambra, is run by the most delightful guy you could hope to meet, and has simple but very pleasant rooms. And it is very reasonably priced. One real bonus for us was that it was wonderfully quiet - I sat on the roof top terrace early in the morning and all I could hear was birdsong and the occasional dog barking. Plenty of good cafes, restaurants, and shops nearby.

i was looking for a self-catering space for one person at a good price and in a peaceful, well-positioned spot. Casa8 came up with the goods. Beautifully located in the old Albayzin quarter, about equally placed to wend your way up the alleyways to the viewpoint and market at the top or head down into the action of the tapas zone and the city. Only about 20mins to walk to the Alhambra (and that includes the steep climb). Tranquil position and with a lovely view to the Alhambra from the rooftop, i enjoyed chilling out and retreating to it when not hitting the sights.

I had Apartment #5 which was just right for me, little kitchenette area and just enough furniture - comfortable bed and enough heating to keep it warm despite the cold temps outside in February. The bathroom is literally just outside the door and was no hassle. A bit of sound got through the ceiling but, hey, these buildings are OLD and i only noticed it because I wasn't talking to anyone (except myself..)

Go for it. Rafa was a helpful, straightforward guy and I'd definitely go back if I get the chance to hang out in Granada again. Btw, February was a great time to go - not so many tourists and crisp but bright weather. Take some warm gear and definitely check out the Alhambra at a night viewing if you get the chance - magical.

The location is perfect, with rooftop views of the Alhambra, easy access to tourist destinations like Sacromonte and Mirador San Nicolas, and of course just the charm of staying in the Albayzin. What fun! Even in the winter, the rooftop of Numero 8 is a delightful hangout. As a family of four staying in Granada for two weeks, one shared apartment was quite cozy. But we made it work, and it was wonderful having the flexibility to cook for ourselves. And Rafa is a genial and knowledgeable host. We highly recommend Numero 8!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
El Numero 8 is not a typical hotel. It is a traditional casa de vecinos separated into separate apartments located in the ancient Moorish area of Granada, the Albayzin. It is also our home that we share with travelers. It is a very tranquil place to stay and we ask our guests to come with respect for the house and for the neighborhood which is all pedestrian and very quiet for being right in the center of the city of Granada. ... more   less
