“Great Value Traditional Tapas - Granada”
Reviewed September 22, 2009

There are two Minatauro Tapas Bars close to the Alhambra in Granada.

1: The first (and I suspect the original) is down a dead-end alley-way just off plaza nueva, in the city centre . You would be unlikely to stumble across this one unless you are looking for it. It is a traditional tapas bar which is often bustling with locals and is small in size compared to the other Minotauro. The back of the Bar is plastered in sketches (some quite impressive) of Minotauros drawn on serviettes and till receipts (& other scraps of paper) by visitors of the past. It has a slightly edgy but very welcoming feel, as every traditional tapas bar should have (in my opinion). I would suggest this is the better of the two bars, due to the fact it is a more "genuine Spanish experience". I would not however suggest this bar to the more faint hearted tourist (non-Spanish speaker), because at times I felt it could be slightly intimidating, and I speak Spanish well. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful and in my opinion they were at they're best when the Bar was buzzing (busy & with punters).

2: The second Minatauro is along the Narrow Street which leads to Sacromonte directly below The Alhambra (This is the bar which i suspect the other reviews on this page refer to). It is more tourist orientated, and has views (although limited) of the Alhambra. Whilst this bar retains the traditional feel of a Tapas Bar, it is not frequented by the same local clientèle as the first. I'm sure (if you really need to) you could use English in this bar and not feel too uncomfotable. But a little effort with your spanish will always go a long way in almost any bar.

They are both excellent value with great food provided free with every beer (cost around 2 euros). As stated by other reviews, each time you order a beer, a different dish is provided and the helpings are more than generous.

Both are well worth a visit for cheap (if not free) food. Comer con gusto!

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed April 16, 2009

Found this tapas bar by chance. Short walk from centre with views towards the Alhambra. Enjoyed tapas with first drink so much that ordered our main meal from tapas selection on menu. If you want to try out delicious portions of local specialities then try the broad bean and bacon or aubergine and honey (sound strange but tastes delicious). Beware of the narrow street and speeding traffic especially when admiring the views.

“Traditional Tapas Bar”
Reviewed October 19, 2008

Minotauro is on the Carrera as you walk up to the Albaicin alongside the Darro River gazing up at the Alhambra. It is just an ordinary bar but order a beer and along comes some tapas - traditional style. First beer brought a mini kebab with olives and crisps, second beer brought a mini roll with a slice of steak and the third brought a mini hamburger that would make a London hostess looking for new canapes weep.
Each beer was under €2. Staff charming. Actually some of the best, and most freshly cooked, food I have had in Spain
