After reading reviews from some respectable sources, I went to El Ladrillo hoping to get truly Spanish seafood deal - after all, Spain is one of THE countries that hold the commanding grounds as far as seafood goes. So after a 15 min uphill hike, I was at the place. I ordered a "canoe", which is a smaller portion of their trademark plate, "barco" - basically, assorted fried fish and "mariscos".
The food arrived - and what a huge disappointment it was! All deep-fried, it mostly consisted of anchovies and "pulpo" with a couple of sardines and a bigger fish thrown in. Now, "pulpo" and anchovies require literally no cooking otherwise they turn into rubber - sure enough, that was the case. Almost entire plate was as tasty as a piece of rubber glove. No salt or vinegar was provided either. When I finished the plate, I had stomach cramps (which is highly unusual, my stomach can handle pretty much anything) - and a check that made me sick and angry: just because I spoke no Spanish, I was charged two euros over the normal price. Speak of "tourist tax"! I don't mind paying for good food and adequate service, but being served this crap and charged through the roof ?!!!
Bottom line: skip this place, go to any outdoor cafe on Plaza Nueva or anywhere in town - you get better food and better service for about the same money. And your night will not be ruined by stomach problems.
