“Value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2010

Booked as part of a last minute package - just wanted a few days in the sun! Our package included flights from our local airport, transfers and hotel accomdation on half board basis.

General - don't be put off by rather scruffy, dated appearance of the hotel. Our room and bathroom clean and adequate - towels changed regularly, liquid soap and bath foam in dispensers. Balconies rather small - sort of triangle shaped! We had a pool side room above entertainment area which meant a bit noisy until midnight. The pool area had lots of sun beds and poolside bar was a bit compact. Did notice there were always towels on beds from first thing in morning! Didn't bother us as we only use hotel as a base and didn't use pool. One tip if you're not all inclusive avoid buying drinks at the hotel. We only did this once - you get the same plastic "glass" and local drink (ours was Sangria which came out of carton) as is "free" if all inclusive but pay hotel bar prices.

Food - couldn't complain. Breakfast - cereals, fresh and dried fruit, yogurts , cheese and meats plus the usual mix of cooked. Excellent scrambled eggs. Sliced bread available for toast. Hot drinks from machine and fruit juices. Dinner - lots of fresh salad plus varied selection of cooked dishes usually a couple of meat and fish plus pasta and rice. Desserts - ice cream, yogurt, creme caramel etc plus cheese and biscuits. Beer and wine plus soft drinks and water on tap included - a plus! Hot food sometimes wasn't always as hot as we like but there was a microwave available so made use of it! Dishes were regularly re-stocked.

The location of the hotel is is a main street in the commercial centre. A few minutes walk to train station where you can get a train direct to airport (about 10 mins I think),and Malaga. Cost return to Malaga 2.35 euros! We enjoyed a visit there and a look around the cathedral.

The beach is about a 10-15 minutes walk away - lots of touristy shop/ bars on the way. Steep steps down to the beach but there is a lift if you need it at 50 cents per trip. Well worth it on a hot day coming back from beach! Amazing long paved promenade and clean beaches. Lots of good beach side restuarants/bars. Prices in all local restuarants and bars very good. Beer around 2 euros a pint and good wine under 2 euros a glass!

Finally - the Roc Flamingo seems to be a very popular hotel with varied mix of ages and nationalities, mostly Spanish and older. It could be a bit noisy at night - we did have the joy of having a spanish family staying in a "junior suite" next to our room who partied on the balcony until 4 am the first night we were there. A gentle "chat" with them the next day (all very cordial and friendly) reduced the noise slightly the next night (and at least they went to bed about 1 am) and luckily they went home that day!

Although large holiday resorts and hotels are not our usual choice we enjoyed our holiday in Torremolinos and stay at the Roc Flamingo and thought both hotel and resort offered good value for money..

I have to start by saying i have travelled a lot over the last couple of years and have stayed in many budget Hotels..
This is classed as 3 star so i wasn't expecting a palatial accommodation, just somewhere to use as a base for exploring..
Well this Hotel is truly the pits, worse than you could imagine..Its nothing like the website photos, these must have been taken when the Hotel opened as the Hotel is completely run down now.
The food is awful and we ended up with food poisoning on the 2nd day..
We got no help what so ever from the staff,in fact we couldn't even get to talk to the manager as she was away for the weekend. We had contacted1800 HOTELS, the travel company we booked with and got no help from them either so we just had to put up with it.
The Bedroom was dirty as were the sheets and bathroom, there was a horrible smell coming from a vent in the ceiling,it smelled like
sewage,we found it hard to stay in the room as we were taking turns at being sick all night.we had to sleep with the patio door open just so we could stomach the smell.
We brought this to the attention of the Manager when she finally returned and also explained about the dirt of the Hotel and the food poisoning and she reluctantly offered us a change of room, how about a change of Hotel??no chance!!
We took the new room but it was as bad as what we had left.
We were not the only people who complained of having food poisoning either,We were All inclusive and we hardly ate or drank in the Hotel so they got their moneys worth out of us.The bar staff are surly with you until they realise their getting a tip, then you might get a little service but when we asked for water when we were sick and explained our money was up in the room we were told to get the money and come back. EVEN THOUGH WE WERE ALL INCLUSIVE!!
Incidently when we went to the dining room for water the morning after speaking to the Manager we were appalled to see workmen throwing Rat poison up the vents in the dining room,we told 1800 HOTELS this on our return and when they asked the Manager if this was true she admitted that the work men had to do this as part of their mantainence but in future would not do this while guests were eating breakfast!
I can only come to the conclusion that not only did we get food poisoning from this Hotel but we were actually breathing in fumes of dead vermin from the vent in our room!!
NICE!!

The surrounding areas are dodgy to say the least,we hated the atmosphere outside with the pimps and druggies. Not the most safest of places..

We e-mailed our complaints to the travel company we booked with(1800 HOTELS)and they were very unhelpful, they eventually said if we book with them again we may be able to get a discount from them..When we tried to book a holiday with them we were told to e-mail the company for our discount but after numerous e-mails and phone calls we got no reply back.We eventually booked with ALPHA ROOMS and got excellent service, they even e-mailed us when we got back to ask did we enjoy our Holiday, which we did thank god!
Needless to say myself and my Family will not be using 1800 HOTELS again..
This review is of the Hotel and also 1800 HOTELS..

If you want to have a come back on Holiday and a decent after care service
DO NOT USE 1800 HOTELS!!
If you want a clean friendly Hotel in a nice safe environment
DO NOT GO TO THE FLAMINGO HOTEL!!

Payed £18.75 per night for half board. The location is in the centre of Torremolinos town with just a pleasant ten minute walk to the beach. The breakfast buffet was of a very good standard with lots of choice. The evening buffet again was of a good standard but most amazing of all was the fact that they had draught beer, Sangria and wine and a full selection of soft drinks all free of charge. The staff were the friendliest I've encountered in all of my Spanish trips. Will certainly revisit this hotel because of its amazing value for money.
Did book through internet to get discount prices.

just back from spending 4 nights in hotel roc flamingo in torremolinos, was worried from reading some of the previous reviews, but found the hotel to be very good. food was great, plenty of choice. There were lots of spanish pensioners staying in the hotel , and we found them to be lovely, including us in all the events etc., this is a 3 star hotel and is good value for money. would return if going to torremolinos in the future.

I have stayed at the Flamingo more than 10 times in the last 5yrs.

Firstly the good points:

1. Location - very handy for everything
2. Cleanliness - very good
3. Staff - friendly, eficient.
4. Rooms - clean, functional.

BUT

5. Food - appalling, everything covered in garlic and very cold. To the reviewer who said it was the best breakfast he had had - do you normally have cold/congealed fried eggs, limp fatty bacon, hot dog sausages, cold beans in the morning? Either that ot you stood at the dining room door so you were first in for some hot food!

6. Room Facilities - Air Con was turned off on several visits. If i choose to have the room at 16c then that should be up to me. No tea or cofee making facilities. Almost no chance of a double bed they only have 1 floor of doubles in a 13 floor hotel and the Spanish get first refusal.

7. NOISE - Do NOT accept a room on the second floor under any circumstances, constant noise from entertainment room, restaurant etc. Remember also that the Spanish are incapable of doing anything quietly!

8. All-Inclusive deal - good bar opening hours 11-11 but inferior spirits served to All-Inc guests. Usual Smirnoff Vodka etc if you are pay as you go but unnamed and poor quality vodkas, whiskies etc if you are All Inc. Bar snacks poor - not even allowed a pkt of crisps on All Inc.

9.Entertainment - Awful. Entirely in Spanish - presumably due to the fact that in Feb it is full of Spanish pensioners on theit Govt subsidised breaks.

Summary: If you use only as a short-break hotel and book only on room-only tariff you'll be mostly happy - but take a travel kettle! B&B, Half Board or All Inclusive not worth having as you will be eating and drinking elsewhere by the 2nd night!

My Wife and I have stayed at this super hotel several times. the central location in the old part of the resort close to all the excellent shops, Bars, Tavernas and Restuarants, and yet only about half a mile from the beach should be ideal for most holiday makers. The hotel is always clean. The food is excellent and the staff are friendly, courteous Knowledgeable and happy to please. The public areas are very clean and tidy, as are the rooms which are comfortable with a nice balcony. Towels and bed linnen are changed on a regular basis. We have only stayed on a bed/breakfast basis but I can honestly say that the breakfast is the best I have had in any hotel anywhere. Serving a hot and cold buffet with endless Tea/Coffee and Juice. I shall be there in both February and May 2010 and can`t wait. jimingham@mail.com Bolton England.
