“very good but not a 4 star Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2007

I stayed for one week in the Sol Don Marco. A very good holiday in a friendly and clean hotel. My room was quite small but clean. I have stayed in other 4 star hotel of the Sol Melia chain and I must say that usually the overall quality is better when compared to the Don Marco-

I would call the Don Marco a good 3 star and not a 4 star hotel.

Very friendly and helpful staff - from front desk, reception, to cleaners and restaurant staff. All very good and nice people.

Food is very average but there is plenty of it so you will never go hungry. Yet, disappointing in quality. Food and beverage is definitely the only disappointing part of my staying. ( please note that I am a bit demanding with food!!)

I think I would go back to the hotel if I travel again in the area but I would surely book for breakfast only and no longer half board. – That is bearing in mind that you can have excellent food at the beach restaurants near by for as little as 15 Euros.

Arrived at the Don Marco at 1.30am to find they had no reservation for us. This was sorted out in 5 minutes by the excellent hotel staff. I guess it was a jet2holidays error and not the hotels fault.

Our room on the 3rd floor had a great view of the pool area and consisted of a smallish room with a king size bed, lots of wardrobe space, table, chair and a good sized TV. There was a seperate bathroom that has a bath with shower over and the usuall sink, toilet and bidet, small but adequate.

The room had free internet access for your laptop (take an ethernet cable).

The bed was very comfortable and extra pillows are provided in the wardrobe if required.

Our only problem was the air conditioning, it was either very loud or leaked water all over the floor and despite complaining three times it wasn't repaired.

There is also a safe in the room (2 euros a night) and a free fridge.

The hotel facilities are excellent with no end of daytime and evening entertainment (all in the other 2 hotels) and very clean public areas.

The Don Marco shares it's restaurant with the Don Pedro, it's 3* sister hotel. I find it strange that a 3* and 4* hotel share facilities so the difference must be in the rooms, thats all i can think of.

The food selection was superb, meat and fish cooked in front of you and a great selection. There was also an Italian corner serving pizza and paellla etc. Sometimes the food was a bit cold (it always is in Spanish hotels) but a quick blast in the provided microwave fixed that. We did eat in the Don Pablo one evening and although the food was excellent it just didn't have the same vibe. It was in a ballroom type environment instead of a garden/outdoor environment of the Don Marco.

All 3 hotels in the complex are very well maintained, the grounds are very lush and green and it has a very relaxed atmosphere.

If you have a car it will cost you 12 euros a night to park so park on the street outside like everyone else did.

Position of the hotel is right on the beach with the usuall tourist type shops to the left and right. Some nice bars in the area (try the Irish bar with the mexican manager !) and good places for lunch.

Walk to the town centre is via a narrow staircase but it is filled with shops so you don't notice the walk so much if your browsing. There is a lift for 50 cents but it closes at 6pm. Turn right out of the hotel and walk all the way to the old town (very nice) or keep going to Benelmadena if your a keen walker.

Make sure you join the SOL MAS club before you go (free) and you can keep your room until 4pm on the last day, very handy.

I WILL return to this hotel again (hopefully this year) as we had a great time. If you have any questions or concerns drop me an email and I will try to help. totalguitar20@hotmail.com

It was simply fantastic! It was the best vacation ever.the facilities were excellent there was a kids club, night shows and romantic restaurants.I would definitely recommend going.

The restaurants their were fab! There were two of them. One of them was suitable for all ages it was sort of like a buffet, the other was more romantic for couples.

The facilities were great! If you want to get some peace then your children can go to the kids club.Your child can do stuff like crazy golf and art. There were also night shows and you don't need tickets and on Saturday nights there are concerts. There are also four pools. A young children's pool, a 1.20m pool, an indoor pool and a 2.10m pool.Further more there was a spa and massage room.

The rooms were beautiful as well. The beds were comfy too you could even change your pillows! Each room had a t.v and a sea view balcony.

Stayed at this hotel, which is part of acomplex of 3 hotels in early summer 07 and it is lovely. We requested a top floor room and the hotel provided as requested.

It was nicer than I was expecting in a really good location. The rooms are on the small side but typical of Spanish hotels but they were nicely finished. Very comfy beds, good quiet Air Con a mini bar if required and very surprisingly a shower over the bath AND a seperate large shower cubicle which was really powerful.

We were half board but I would not book this again , not because the food was bad but because you could eat in so many reasonable restaurants in the area.

Breakfast was OK nothing special but set you up for the day, not as nice as some spanish hotels I have stayed in but was more than edible.

The pools were lovely, music played around them but not too loudly. The pools cover everyones needs from family games to quiet adult only pools.

The beach opposite was really nice and worth paying 4 euros for a sunbed as the sand gets really hot!! Just a short walk away is the walk up or lift up to the shops and bar area. Loads to do and if it is a hot evening pay the 50 cebts to take the lift up and have a walk back down. ( Ladies beware it is not easy in heels we took ours of for the walk down !)

If you want a nice place to watch the world go by in the evening then sit outside Sams Bar have a cocktail and relax. The guys there are really nice, comfy chairs and great choice of food and drinks. Sams Bar is just along from Zara.

I would definately stay at the Sol don Marco again.

My wife and I just returned from a great week in Torremolinos and I would definitely recommend this hotel to pretty much anyone. The Don Marco is one of three hotels on the same complex, along with the Don Pablo and Don Pedro. Both the Don Pedro and Don Marco have 5 floors or so as compared to the Don Pablo which is a much taller building.

The service was great, the staff friendly and the facilities pretty good. As a guest of the Don Marco, you have access to everything on the site.

A few things to keep in mind:
1.At times, it seemed that the restaurant did have trouble keeping up with the demand of hungry guests, but this wasn’t too bad.
2.There is more variety at the Don Marco restaurant than the Don Pablo.
3.If you came there with a tour operator and are interested in some day trips, we suggest that you compare the price offered by your tour operator and those of the hotel. Had we booked directly with the hotel, we would have saved quite a bit of money.
4.The beach is right across the road, where you will find several private areas that rent lounge chairs with some shade for 4 Euros per day. Well worth it. The sand gets VERY hot already in June!
5.There is a great bar east of the hotel called Moliere’s and is right on the beach.
6.There is normally loud music at the Don Pablo until at least 11 pm. But, some of the shows are really worth it.

Again, I can suggest the Don Marco to pretty much anyone.

Have a great stay!

This was my first trip to Torremolinos and if I am honest, not one that I was particularly looking forward to as I was expecting a resort that was overrun with "British" bars and the like.

How pleasantly surprised I was then to find out that this was not the case. Indeed as it was winter the resort had a surprisingly cosmopolitan feel, with visitors from the US, Canada and most of continental Europe in sizeable numbers.

True Torremolinos may lack the polish of Marbella or other places on the Costa del Sol, but that only adds to its authenticity and charm in my opinion. The added bonus of course was the hotel, the Sol Don Marco. This is a relatively new hotel and has all of the modern facilities that you would expect of a good class tourist hotel and its position on the Bajondillo beach, puts it in an ideal position in relation to the rest of the resort.

The rooms are comfortable and clean. The public facilities are quiet and well looked after and the staff are first class. All in all the hotel offers exceptional value for a winter break.
