“Excellent place to stay”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

Our travel agent found this hotel for us after we had been told the hotel that we booked couldn't accommodate us. The sol don Marco was good hotel and we certainly would return. Excellent location, nice room, great food and excellent entertainment . I have no hesitation in recommending this group of hotels.

Room Tip: The restaurant in the Pablo was very nice.

Stayed October 2013, weather wonderful. Reception tended to all our needs, couldn't be more helpful. Breakfast had a good choice, from eggs and bacon to continental. Supper always had something if slightly limited. Happy hour worth a go with half price drinks. Rooms fine but if on wrong side of resort very noisey. All staff very helpful and playful with our 2 year old. Overall my family & I had a lovely break. Thank you

Room Tip: Ask for quieter side.

Decided to try the Don Marco for an out of season break as its position looked ideal, but not the usual type of resort hotel that we would normally book. Booked an airport transfer for 12 euros return p.p. with the hotel which was fine and only a 10 minute journey.
Room:
Booked a direct sea view room and we were allocated the best room in the hotel which had a wrap around balcony. View was amazing and the room was very comfortable traditional style with separate shower as well as bath, refrigerator and TV with BBC 1 , Sky news etc.
Dining:
Booked half board as is good value if booked with room rate. Yes, the restaurants are large and very busy but we were always seated quickly. The food is typical buffet style with lots of choice and there is always salad, pizza, fresh fruit and cheeses if nothing else to your taste. We also ate out a couple of evenings for a change.
Facilities:
There are many pools and sun terraces including a covered and heated pool. There are also different bars and evening entertainment in the two other hotels on the complex.
The Don Marco is the smaller hotel and attracts a mostly mature client base.
We were able to take advantage of some of the facilities of this complex and its excellent position but also have our usual independent holiday enjoying the local area, bars, restaurants etc.
Overall:
Found staff to be efficient and helpful and everywhere is very clean. The clientele were mostly a mixture of British, German and American during our stay.
We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. Don Marco delivers on location, service and facilities, if you don't like large busy restaurants then bed and breakfast or room only would be an option as there are many cafes, restaurants nearby and up in the town.
Thank you to the Don Marco for a great stay! See you again soon.

Room Tip: Book a direct sea view room for a fabulous view.

Already 13 years we are cliënts of the Sol Don Hoteles in Torremolinos. The last 7 years we choose Sol Don Marco. We are very satisfied about the price/product of this hotel. Its position at the seaside, the clean rooms and public areas, the superb kitchen and a very helpfull and proffessional staff. This was not our last holiday in Don Marco.

Stayed 6th-12th october for our wedding anniversary.we have been here about a dozen times, but always in the don pablo.couldn,t get a room for the dates we wanted, so, decided to give the don marco a try.paid a bit extra for a sea view room (4002).the room looked as though it had recently been refurbished.no scratches on the wooden furnishings, the walls freshly painted, the bathroom was also perfect.it had a bath and a separate shower cubicle.the balcony was a good bit smaller than the don pablo, s balconies, only room for a table and 2 chairs, no spare space to move about, but ok for the two of us, and a good view of the beach and promenade.a minor criticism of the room is the lighting.plenty of lights, but low wattage bulbs made it difficult to read in bed at night.the bedside lamps were on a fixed bracket at the side of the bed and you had to sit sideways on the bed in order to read.in the don pablo the brackets were flexible, and you could swing them over, so you could read lying in bed.the cleaner was excellent, and you could have fresh towels every day if required.now, as for the restaurants, you can eat in the don marco or don pablo.the don pablo kitchen and hot buffet areas were refurbished a year ago.the hot food stays hot longer on the new hot plates, and there is plenty of room to move about, unlike the don marco, where it, s a bit of a crush at busy times, lots of jostling to get to the food.breakfast, usual spanish hotel buffet, perfectly adequate with a good selection, just a couple of quibbles, the juice is rather watery, especially the orange.also, with lots of british and irish guests, why is there not any british style sausages available? only frankfurters or spicy spanish efforts.the bacon is cooked till it is hard.dinner has a good selection, meat, fish, salad plus the italian corner.we usually wait till the chef is cooking the meat or chicken, in order to get it fresh and thoroughly cooked, no blood!! Plenty of sunbathing terraces, but,, despite notices saying that sunbeds cannot be reserved, some people are out before sunrise, putting towels on the loungers, and disappearing for hours.the free wifi in reception area is ok, got to pay if wanted in room.just to finish and sum up,either hotel suits us fine, we enjoy our stays and, hopefully, we will be returning again next year, we always go between october and march when the weather suits us, and when the oldies(we are oap,s)more or less take over the hotels.we are mas reward members, so we book direct with the hotel and take advantage of the discount available to members.

Dear james23Glasgow ,
Thanks for your in-depth review. I am so glad that you keep enjoying the Dons and come back again for more. I really hope that you can make it again next year.
I would add a quick note for potential travellers reading this now: The Don Marco dining room closes in winter and all meals are served in the renovated Córdoba restaurant on the other side of the complex. It is one minute's stroll across the garden and can alternatively be accessed without having to go out of doors (sorry to hijack your review james23Glasgow!).
Thanks again for your review.
Kind regards,
Jaime Floyer.

Stayed at this Hotel along with my wife on our first visit from 29thOct to 5th Nov. staying in one of
The upgraded rooms No 10702. The room decor was lovely with a comfortable bed and a
Fantastic sea view. All staff were most friendly and helpful apart from two surly bar waiters! The
Food was excellent and the hotel is spotlessly clean.

Stayed at son Marco for 4nights in November 2013. first impressions were good. Receptionists was polite and helpful.
Took three attempts to get some key cards that opened our room door. Room was clean and although not spacious adequate for how much time you spent in it.
Reception was a nice area kept to a good standard. Nice little bit of foliage visable through the glass back wall. The food. Well don!t want to sound horrid because people have said it was good. The plates were usually cold. The evening meals were quite repetitious the breakfasts did give you a start for the day but also quite same old same old. Some people said you have to get your own cutlery but this only happened once but the resteraunt was full. Anyway we have legs so we got our own, no big deal
The pool areas were good but there was still the old towels on the sunbeds but no-one to be seen in the Pablo which as you may already know is their sister hotel. Pool was clean and did have a nice cooling off.
The staff were always polite and happy to help. Maids were nice and spoke when you saw them. Kept the room spot on.
Our only problem was the other guest. Now I am not a party animal but most of the people staying there I think were raising money for charity to see who could go the longest without smilling and to see who could be the most arrogant and rude. These people were from one of our European countries. All I can say is if being on holiday makes you that miserarable then stay at home.
Anyway hotel was good probably just wrong time of year.

Dear john u,
I am sorry that you hit the Sol Don Marco at the wrong time of year for you. As you know, the hotel is not meant to be a party hotel and even in high summer all the fun and games are generally focussed in the sister hotels Don Pablo and Don Pedro; but I get the feeling from talking to our guests that they are generally enjoying themselves! I hope that the other guests did not spoil what otherwise seems to have been a very good experience.
Please come back again, perhaps at a different time of year and perhaps with a younger crowd.
Thanks for your comments,
Kind regards,
Jaime Floyer.
