Husband and I stayed at Sol Don Marco for our third anniversay in June 2008. We booked this hotel because we simply wanted a good hotel, at a good price, that we would really just use in the evenings to nap in, and of course at night to sleep in. If you're looking for an "all-inclusive" experience, this isn't the place for you. We got a taxi from the airport at 20 Euros, which we were happy to pay instead of taking the bus, given that it was near midnight.

Overall a good hotel - our room was a double sized room (i.e. two twin beds placed together) overlooking the centre courtyards of the Sol Don Pablo and Don Marco. Our room was 3009. If you want a good night's sleep or are a sensitive sleeper, I don't recommend a room looking into the courtyard because the night shows across the way in the Don Pablo bar area go on until 1am and are very loud. I sleep with earplugs and my husband is Deaf, so we weren't too bothered.

The clientele at the hotel was pretty much mid-40s to retirement age. We were some of the youngest people there (late 20s). The pool scene is the same - mostly older couples, which was fine with us because we were there to relax, not to do heavy partying.

Breakfast was the only meal we had in the hotel - which was mostly good - the eggs are a bit watery, so I suggest asking the chef to make you an omelette instead. Don't arrive too early at 7.30, as at this time not all of the food has been set out. My husband had an early golf game, so he had to eat a bunch of bread and fruit, given that the hot meats and eggs weren't out yet when we arrived. Also had some poolside drinks - very good.

Easy two minute walk to the beach across the street. Places that we ate at and recommend are: Uncle Willy's chiringuito, La Paella (both on the main street where the hotel is located), Bodega Quitapenas (cheap drinks!) and La Bodega (both on San Miguel street, the former on the steps leading up to the city centre), and a french restaurant on the street parallel to San Miguel - I don't remember the name of the street - but it's the only French restaurant on it.

Would stay here again.

when we booked this bank holiday break we were told by Travel Republick that our original hotel the Sol don Pablo was overbooked and we were offered a transfer to the don Marco with a Superior room we of course gratefully accepted .
Although the hotel is 4star rating we found on arrival that there was no porter ,the room was very small although the Bathroom did have both bath and walk in power shower the superior upgrade that we werre offered was a sea view which also overlooked the Main promenade (could be noisy especially late at night )same room as any in the hotel .
The food you had an option to eat in either of the sister hotels in the same complex ,one was 3 star the other 4star we found it difficult to differentiate ,the food in general although there was lots of it was Fresh Clean and everso boring it would have helped if the Menu/Selection were changed more often
.
We did have a great time and would not hesitate in recommending this hotel

Just returned from a 7 night stay at the sol don marco.

This is a lovely hotel not too far from the centre of Torremolinos.

It shares all the ameneties of its sister hotels which means you have another restaurant to dine in and 8 pools to lounge around.

the food in the hotel is standard buffet fare allowing a few meat, fish and vegetarian options each evening.

the only downside is this hotel is on the edge of the resort and a lift or over 100 steps are required to get to the town. however once you;ve done this ones it never seems quote as bad as the 11st time...

Just returned from a week long break here.

Booked this hotel based on the reviews on trip advisor.

The hotel deserves its 4 star rating but the location of the hotel is terrible.

Its situated on a busy main road so all you hear when on the balcony is mopeds, buses etc whizzing past. It is worth paying extra for the sea view as at least you can see the sea beyond the road and i think if you had a different view of a derelict building( which there are alot of in torrremelinos) it would be depressing.

The rooms are nice and clean with a lovely bathroom and mini fridge.

The breakfast is nice with ,lots of cereals, fruit, pastries, eggs , pancakes etc..

However the bacon and sausages are the usual streaky bacon full of fat and raw sausages or frankfurters that you get in most european hotels ... oh and some nice green beans or cabbage aswell ! why??
The breakfast apart from the above was lovely.. nice fresh coffee.

Theres about 6 pools which are shared with the other 2 sister hotels. All of them very nice and clean and lots of nice plants etc..

The gym is terrible.. small and dingy in the basement.

The entertainment is terrible in the evening. its geared towards spanish/german and is something you might watch in the 70's.

The area around the hotel is scruffy and dirty with no nice restaurants.
Alot of dog poo and funny smells..

The beach is quite nice although the sea is rough but this could have been because the time of year.

There are alot of restaurants on the beach but the food isnt up to scratch and is very expensive for what you get. The tapas restaurants were horrible.. think I was expecting the same standard as Ive had in Barcelona but it was too traditional (which i know some people will like !) but it was just fish fish and raw fish and stuff on bread.. I love tapas aswell .. was very disappointed.

Had a few nice sangrias tho!

We went to Beneladema ( sorry for spelling!) for the day and we wished we wouldnt have as it just highlighted how depressing and scruffy torremelinos is.. Beneledema seemed alot more modern and the port was nice and the restaurants seemed nicer.

If you put this hotel in a different location i would have gave it 4 stars.
Wont be returning to Costa del Sol in a hurry think we will stick to greece/cyprus or if we did ever return it will be to Marbella...

April 2008

Ive never writen a review before though I have travelled widely & stayed in some beautiful locations but this hotel is a hidden gem in the concrete jungle of Torremolinos

The Sol Don Marco is in a great location right in the middle of the resort just across the road from the beach and a short walk to San Migel (the main shoppin area)

I booked this hotel with alpha rooms for a 4 nite stay for my 3 sisters and myself It was FANTASTIC with a capital F!! Extremely competent & friendly reception staff, spotless beautifully furnished rooms complete with fridge and separate shower cubicle. Fresh fluffy white towels were replaced daily and there were buckets loads of hot water! We never seen the maid but she did a brill job.

We opted for half board which I can thoroughly recommend as yet again the dining room was immaculate with loads of freshly prepared food. I could have eaten breakfast all day!!

The bar service was on a par with any top hotel - none of this plastic or dirty glasses. All drinks were properly served in appropriate glasses with ice & a slice or decorated with fruit if a cocktail... aah the pina coladas at 5pm by the pool...luxury!!

Everything about this hotel was fantastic we are even thinking of going back next year not because we liked the resort purely because of this hotel and its staff

No I wasnt bribed by the hotel to write this review, this is a true reflection of the service we received

BOOK this hotel if you are thinkin of stayin in Torremolinos and best of all it was not expensive but sssh... dont tell everyone!

Stayed at the Don Marco for a week from 19th April 2008. We were given a seaview room which was very pleasant, the room was nice and the bathroom had a separate bath and shower. The food was good at the hotel, very plentiful, but for breakfast, there was a large bowl of yoghurt and I much prefer individual pots of yoghurt. The orange juice out of the machine was terrible. The bread was really fresh, there were pancakes and eggs and the other typical breakfast items. Surprisingly, the coffee out of the machine was good too. I thought there were some odd items for breakfast, along with cooked tomatoes, there was often brussel sprouts or spinach!!

There were plenty of pools to choose from, and there was daytime activities to join in if you wished. We went to the night time entertainment which was very good, but the price of the drinks in the bar was quite expensive, we bought a bottle of wine and it was nearly 16 euros. We tried the cocktails the following night, and they weren't too good, considering they were nearly 6 euros each.

One evening before dinner, all the women were given red carnations, which I thought was a nice touch.

We found a really nice tapas bar (first one you come to) to have our lunch in just up from Burger King, the tapas there were from 2 euros. We found a small traditional bar we liked halfway up the bank, before you got to the square and you could get a glass of wine for less than 1 euro 50 cents. We had a half of lager each in the square and it was nearly 7 euros.

I have stayed at the Melia hotel up the road, and I thought the rooms and food just shaded the Don Marco.
