We stayed at the Pez from 26.12.12 to 30.12.12 for the second year running and thoroughly enjoyed our stay again. The staff cannot be faulted especially in the restaurant where they are smart, efficient and remember returning guests even after a whole year. Luckily we got the same room as last year (211) which looks straight out to sea where we watched a magnificent sunrise every morning at 8.30am. At this time of year the age group of guests is mainly 50+ but for us this is one of the attractions to this hotel. We hired a car locally at a very reasonable rate and drove inland to Antiquera which is a lovely, typically Spanish small town and then on to Lobo Park to see the wolves which was very interesting and worth a visit. Most people choose to stay in the hotel in the evening but we like to have a walk and take advantage of the local bars that were really quiet this year which is a shame because if they are not used more they will not survive and this will spoil the surrounding area of the hotel.
Once again thank you Pez and Medplaya for a very enjoyable holiday.

This hotel is the worst hotel we have ever visited and is living on its reputation. To rate this a 4 star is a joke.
We went for New year. The meal on New Years Eve, on paper was great, but in real life the main course was cold, served on cold plates.
The first 4 nights my wife spent coughing all night, to the point were she was physically retching. We asked if we could go home on the next flight but because it was just after New Year all flights were full and we had to stay for our second week. We asked Thompson's Rep if we could move rooms which she organised. Good Old Becky. We had suspected that the air conditioning in our original room was suspect and faulty, and this was confirmed when we went into our new room: my wife's cough began to improve
All the meals were cold and we found them inedible. The following comments substantiate this statement:
1) The meals were "Buffet" style and were prepared before dinner in "Pyrex" dishes.
2) These dishes were then sealed with cling film and stored in a "heated" oven. When they were taken from the "oven" you would have expected the cling film to have either stretched or become dislodged. It hadn't. Therefore raising the question "How Hot were the ovens"?
3) The meals were then taken out of the ovens and placed on "Hot" plates. I actually placed my hand on the "Hot" plate to establish how "hot" it really was. I held my hand there for at least a couple of minutes and the "Hot" plate did not even warm may hand.
4) One would therefore assume that the plates on which we put the food would be hot, or at least warm. They were not.
5) There was even a "micro wave oven" at the end of the counter to "reheat your food". If the management put such an appliance there, surely they recognise that they have a problem. So why don't they rectify it?
6) One evening we had Roast Beef which was carved in front of us. What vegetables would you expect if you were being served Roast Beef: Potatoes, sprouts, peas, carrots etc? No, the vegetable (note, in the singular) we received were cold sprouts and nothing else. Have you ever eaten roast beef, sprouts and rice? We have.
7) The spaghetti sauce was kept warm over a paraffin type heater.

This resulted in us searching for place to eat every day. A cost you don't imagine incurring in a 4 star hotel

Yes, famous stars have stayed at this hotel such as Mary Pickford, Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti, Sean Connery, Frank Sinatra, The Duke and Duchess of Windsor. This was over 40 years ago. As I said at the start "The Hotel is living on its reputation" a very old and fading reputation.

Room Tip: Do not go to the hotel. If you have already booked and can't cancel, insist on a room in the &qu...

Dear heavisidesmith,

Firstly thank you for staying at the Medplaya Hotel Pez Espada and for taking the time to write your feedback on your recent holiday at the hotel. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay.
Regarding your comments about the food, we have received only positive comments about the Christmas and New Year's Eve gala dinner as our staff makes the best to offer quality service at all times. It saddens us to hear about your disappointment and we assure you that your comments will receive the evaluation of the management.

Thank you for your feedback.

Stayed with friends who made the booking , our first visit, their second. HOtel is situated right on the beach promenade about 15 minutes walk to the harbour. Stayed in room 311, one of the large corner suites, for one night, which had a separate seating area, and balcony overlooking the sea. Room was comfortable, with more than the usual complimentary toiletries in the bathroom. Could do with a bit of updating, carpet was bit threadbare to entrance of bathroom. We stayed on a half board basis and the food for both meals was buffet service with waiter serving drinks. Good range of food for both meals, no excuse for saying you did not have enough to eat. Staff were friendly and efficient. There is a health spa with indoor swimming pool which we did not try. Entertainment seems to be nightly, being based on 50 60 and 70s. Would certainly stay in this hotel again - and would look to one of the sister hotels for accommodation if were in the area.

Room Tip: Would try to book a room ending in 11 to get a corner suite. Apparently better to get a room in the...

Not forgetting Vanda of Medplaya. We now have to go on a diet after all that lovely food.
See you all in May. A good value for money hotel.

First time abroad for the Christmas hols (21st Dec for 1 week) and really enjoyed our stay. Hotel chosen for it's location. Nice easy stroll to Benalmedana marina and also to the centre of Torremolinos. Went to Funegirola on the train one day 3.70 euros return - trains run on time and are clean - took mini train round Fuengirola to give us a better idea of this resort - glad we chose Torremolinos. Carihuela fantastic - majority of chiringuitos open even on Christmas Day - we enjoyed tapas and wine in the sunshine that day. Food in hotel very good, waiter service for tea/coffee at breakfast and for wine/beer etc. with dinner. Chefs always buzzing round the buffet repleneshing food - so even late diners had lots of choice. Christmas Day dinner was full waiter service - 7 courses, with white and red wines, water, champagne and choice of drink for after dinner - just wish we hadn't had the tapas late afternoon as we were not able to do justice to the meal!! Did not sample any of the evening entertainment as we prefer to have a stroll after dinner but always returned to Frankies for our nightcap. Cannot pick out any one member of staff as they were all helpful and cheery. Had garden view room which got the late afternoon sun - yes in places the hotel is a little tired but always kept clean and tidy. Lots of returnees and can understand why. At this time of year not really suited to families more for us oldies - would definitely return for a winter break and already checking prices to see if we can get a good deal for 2013. Overall a really good break and fortunate enough to have good weather, a little bit of rain Christmas Day morning which soon cleared - micro fleeces enough for during the day wiith a heavier weight one for the evening.

Room Tip: Worth paying for garden view room - but will keep our room number to ourselves - we liked it and if...

Stayed here from 26/12/12-30/12/12. This was my second stay at this hotel. Check in was very quick and easy and reception staff were friendly.

Our room was located on the 2nd floor of the older building, I had requested a high floor overlooking the sea but this request was not granted! Rooms were clean enough and had clean sheets and fresh towels every day!

Location of the hotel was great, 2 min walk from Benalmadena and hotel looks over the beach! Plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Also train station is a 15 min walk from hotel and this line can either take you to Malaga or Fungerola, fares are very reasonable!

We were a half board basis, breakfast was okay, same every morning however dinner would be great with a wide variety of food on offer every night, waiter staff were great and they were always happy to help!

This hotel looks very classy but is now a bit out of date, age group was for the over 50s, although being a young couple we fitted in well with the oldies!!

Nothing to fault this hotel with, all the staff were great and happy to help with any problems!

Would recommend this hotel for location and great service.

We stayed at the Pez espada in December 2012 for xmas,it was a lovely hotel and the staff are very friendly and happy to help, its in a fantastic location, with a gate in the gardens at the back of the hotel that takes you right onto the beach. We stayed in room 405 which was good with a side view of the sea but it doesnt get any sun,if you want sunshine on your balcony then ask for a view of the pool and gardens. The food was fantastic with a wide choice and the dining room is a sit where you want.Breakfast is 7.30 - 10.30.and dinner is 7pm -9.30pm.We would go back but not for xmas as they dont celerbrate it,they had a xmas tree but that was it,just no xmas feel at all.
