“My 15th Stay at the Pez Espada”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Have been coming to this Hotel since 1996 and counting up I believe that I have stayed here just over fifteen times in 16 years. This shows how much I have enjoyed staying here. The service is first class and the food is always of a very high standard. The staff aways recognise me and always give a warm welcome. Many of the staff have been there for many years which is a good sign that this is a good hotel to work in.
The accommodation side is always clean and well serviced. Clean towels in the bathroom each day with the bed linen changed every two to three days. The room maids always exchange greetings upon passing in the corridor.
The garden area is well laid out and extremly well maintained.Plenty of sunbeds which are comfortable.
Looking forward to another stay next Summer.

Room Tip: Rooms either as with garden view or rooms looking over the Crazy Golf area. I always ask if possible...

We were at the Pez Espada Hotel at the end of August. We had booked a superior room and were very disappointed when we arrived and saw the room (111). Very briefly, we complained and asked for another room, we were told , no, there were no other superior rooms. The next day we spoke to the rep (Michael) and told him how upset we were, he then did find us another room , which was not a superior but was ok, so we moved in there. The next day we heard another couple complaining about their superior room (211), we told them about our experience. They were then offered a room next door but one to ours so we said we would let them see our room so that they would see what they were getting. When they saw ours they said that it was much better than the superior room they were offered first and they moved in. Two days later they told us that the rep (Michael) had been to see them and had told them that he had spoken to his boss in Benidorm and was told to refund the extra monies they had paid for the superior room in euros, there and then. I have NEVER heard of anyone being refunded money in the resort. WE were NOT offered a refund even though we were in the same position. We complained to the rep who told us that the lady in question should not have told us about the refund, which we thought was very strange. We have complained to Thomson holidays on four occasions since our return home and they have STILL not replied to us. We are now in the process of reporting them to ABTA. On the whole this hotel is very definitely NOT 4 star.

Dear Christine R,

Firstly, thank you for staying at the Medplaya Hotel Pez Espada and for sharing your feedback on your recent stay at the hotel. It saddens us to receive such comment and to read about your discontent over the room allocation. Hotel Pez Espada offers a variety of room type, from the standard rooms, garden view rooms to the top floor suite rooms, however they are available for a supplement if booked just a standard room.
We appreciate each comment and all of them are forwarded to the management and treated with due attention.

Thanks again for reviewing the hotel and we hope you enjoyed your stay in Torremolinos.

Kind regards,

Vanda Lehnerova

Have stayed in this hotel 3 times a year for the last four years which I think shows how much we like it. We always book the hotel seperately through Thompsons and have a Garden view room looking towards the harbour. The hotel is idealy situated with a gate out the back leading directly onto the promenade from where you can walk along the sea front in either direction. The bedrooms do need refurbishment and the carpets are very worn. The whole hotel is kept very clean and the two bars serve reasonably priced drinks The house wine at dinner is only Euro7.25 a bottle and there is happy hour three evenings a week in the bar.
We found the organisation in the restaurant excellent and I dont think any of the staff have changed in the four years we have been going there. Tables are found for you and the dirty plates are cleared away quickly. Just dont try to go in the restaurant in shorts in the evening as this is one hotel that does mean No Shorts for dinner. We have always found the meals excellent with a good selection for all courses.
We are booking again for next February

4star hotel no way. Reception area impressive..reception staff uninterested..this hotel is well overdue a major refurb..tired sofas in reception area, dirty.dirty worn carpets in room..really old fashioned.window frames paint peeling off, rotten etc
We paid extra for a superior room with balcony (room 611) we could not get the both of us onto the balcony because it was so narrow, had to take the small metalic table into room to get to the other chair.the balcony wall was cracked & the hand rail was loose so we couldn't / wouldn't use it because we didn't feel safe.
Lets get onto the food if you could call it that....one word shocking..this is by far the worst hotel food we have ever tasted.it was terrible..breakfast..basic..full English etc..sausages swimming in brine.cold..
Evening meal..no potatoes apart fom one night.beef & more beef..no chicken..fish was perch...which we do not eat in this country ..and squid for god sakes.just poor quality.we had to eat out most nights as the food was dreadfull.
Hotel grounds well kept.outdoor pools clean..to cold to use in oct..indoor pool was dreadful ..looked dirty ..grotty surrounding Astra turf stuff around it didn't look inviting at all..avoid.
Frankies bar good drinks..this hotel lives off the story of frank Sinatra stayed at this hotel..he did not..he called there in the late 50's looking for a lady of the night..and was ushered out of the hotel after less than 10 mins there.
Overall this hotel is In a superb location..but 4 star..not a chance..we brought up these issues with the rep..but he really wasn't interested.(Michael) wil upload pics..wil we visit here again..no chance..

I recently visited hotel Pez Espada and found the hotel facilities excellent. However one of the reception staff was extremely rude and unhelpful. We tried to use the safe but couldn't and wanted to know if there were any superior rooms available. We were told we were in a superior room, which we weren't and he almost threw the safe instructions at us. However, the other reception staff were most helpful.

When we checked in he gave us no details about facilities, meal times etc and when we returned to the desk a few hours later to complain about the way we were treated on arrival he said that if he had to give everyone information he would be there all day. At the time of check in there were only two couples including myself and sister checking in.

I will return to the hotel next year and hopefully the rude member of staff will have had some training or has left the job.

Room Tip: Choose a high room preferably room 525. Rooms on the garden side have a better view.

We have just spent 10 days in this hotel and we have had a fabulous time. The food was lovely with plenty of choice for both breakfast and evening meal. Would have liked to have seen a little more chicken although we all love pork we got a bit fed up of it. We last visited this hotel eight years ago for a big birthday of mine and had always planned to return but unfortunately it never happened until now, dont know why. The hotel is spotless the rooms are cleaned everyday and the beds were changed every other day which was lovely. We had a garden view on the first floor and we could see the sea and swimming pool as well as the garden. A couple of times we saw the big cruise liners out at sea which brought much excitement. All in all we have had a lovely holiday and would certainley return. Try Browns Bar up the road for a friendly drink say hi to Geoff for us.

Room Tip: If you want a good view request a garden view.

My only concern about this hotel was the room allocation for single room occupation, after booking. Lots of reviews said don't accept room 101, 102, 103 etc, I arrived and was given room 101, NO WINDOW, BALCONY WITH ENOUGH ROOM FOR 1 PLASTIC CHAIR. Complained and moved to 401, STILL NO WINDOW etc. 1.5 days gone of my one week holiday before I was allocated a decent sized room, so disappointed, spoilt my holiday, pool was so cold took my breath away. Should have been my dream holiday on the beach, on the promenade excellent food. Sorry (must have allocated all the good rooms etc to all you lucky people that have come to the Hotel for many years). One positive, food was lovely.

Room Tip: Single travellers don't accept rooms 101, 102 etc they are dark and dingy, and you have to put t...
