“Good but not 4*”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

Not 4 star but this is not a bad place either. The rooms are clean and a good size. The bathrooms have been newly renovated. The pool is a good size and the grounds are well kept. Its just that the whole hotel is a little tired and is also on a run-down street. Nearly every business, including some big hotels on the adjacent roads are closed and boarded-up, and this gives you the inpression the holtel is also on its last legs!
The hotel is 5 minutes walk to the beach and only a short taxi ride (€5) to the main centre of Torremolinos.
The food is average. Thankfully we were B&B only. I would have been very dissapointed if we were full board.
Overall the hotel was relaxing, if not a little boring.

Room Tip: Dont go full board!!

Booked with Travel republic and stayed at the Royal Al-Andulas we stayed there 3 years ago over the new year so we thought we'd try it again, once again we weren't disappointed with the hotel itself , however breakfast time was a bit of a mad one it didn't come to the same standard as our previous stay the food has definately slipped it's previous standard and it was so noisey! The rooms are clean and comfortable. Maid service attended every day and pottered around - the one thing that puzzled us was when on one occassion she came to potter around the room whilst we were out and we found the clean bedding placed on the side leaving us to wonder if we were change them ourselves (of which we didn't but I was tempted to!!!!) the poolside is as said in previous reviews very busy and yes the towels were out on the beds before the birds woke! The hotel is not to far from some really good restaurants & bars and about 5mins from the beach which is is spotlessly clean the sun beds are reasonably priced at 9euros for 2 all day. If out and about on the sea front pop into Nigel & Cheryl's or the Sunset coffee bar.Or on route to & from the beach pop into Cheer's.

Room Tip: even although the hotel is not on the beach front asked for a room on a high floor for a sea view.

We stay here every June and really liked it but this year it seemed that it had hit hard times, we got married in Gibraltar and so used the hotel as a base for our friends and family that atayed with us for the wedding, or at least that was the plan our friends booked with Travel Republic and they tried to outbook them to a hotel about an hour away so they had to pay extra to stay in a closer hotel nightmare.
Anyway the Royal Al Andalus we stayed in a suite and they are lovely worth the extra money. The breakfast has gone downhill really poor pastry selection and poor choice of hot breakfast they changed the seats and tables so it feels a lot like a café than a restaurant.
On a weekend the hotel lets the local Spanish families come here as the parents get very drunk and the children very noisy, running around and generally being a bit of a nuisance - not good.
The ladies who clean the rooms are lovely and do an excellent job, reception have very little command of English but then I have very little command of Spanish and are ok, the restaurant staff are grumpy, the chef looks happy, the afternoon waiter in the pool bar is grumpy.
Not sure if we are going to use the Andalus next year we might go back to the Melia who we sometimes stay with in November.

The word "royal" and 4* are not very appropriate for this estate.
Even that the staff is very welcoming and seems concerned, the touch of economical recession is obvious. The garden once cared for is now kind of forgotten: the palm trees have bunch of dry branches, some garbage in remote corners is also seen.
The rooms are large (at least our was), but there is a need for some deeper cleaning to restore its level of former luxury.
We have been on B&B basis, and only had a lunch once. However, breakfasts were definitely too simple, without any variations from day to day, so it was difficult to enjoy the restaurant after couple of days. I guess, the hotel could improve on this subject too. This is not a problem of service but rather management's policies.
WiFi in whole hotel and not only around reception would be great addition. There is no data connections in the room too. So, it is quite difficult if your trip is not only for leisure, but combination with a business.

stayed in this hotel from 18th may for 1 week on a breakfast and dinner basis. nice hotel lovely pool area. bedrooms very clean and huge bathrooms. 10 mins to beach. on the minus side the food was awful. im not a fussy eater but i found it very hard to find anything tasty i basically made do.
i could go on forever complaining about the food, its a great pity because everything else apart from no entertainment was good. i would not recommend this hotel and i wont be going back.

Food very poor pork pork pork or bony fish then one night they surprised us with chicken and lamb so I took some chicken and one piece of lamb about the size of a small egg when I got back to the table I discovered that it was pure bone. On our last morning they ran out of tea bags and we were told "drink green tea its the same " no it's not. luckily another resident had there own supply and gave us some. Salad bar very poor stayed in another hotel last year in the same area food was vastly better there. Room clean and large and comfortable but was over the service area looking at the front of a block of residential apartments. Entertainment was dreadful if you can't put on a good show then don't bother at all. We had one or two problems with our rooms that required attention by the maintenance department these were dealt with speedily.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool.

stayed from 11/5/13 until 20/3/13 some people want 4 star at 2 star prices. i think if they went through everything they would realise what they got for their money. large bedroom with free tv and free air con. good firm bed, fridge in room no extra charge, good size balcony, sea view, also overlooking lovely gardens and pond. large bathroom two sinks bath/ shower. how many times have you had to pay extra for some of the above.only six floors so not hanging around for ages waiting on lifts ,pool is a decent size ' not heated ' plenty of sun beds although you may have to place on grass area if poolside is full ' a lot of people secure a bed by means of their towel then vanish for hours' causing poolside space shortage, thats the british for you. i work in food industry, freshly cooked extra signs may have helped but i eat veal, pork chops, chicken, pizza, gammon stk. chicken fillet, plenty of fresh salad and mixed salad dishes my wife had numerous fish dishes with fish salads.. we were all inc. had water with meals while my wife had bottle of wine new bottle every time no name tagging it like some hotels for next visit to restaurant felt some of the food could have done with more seasoning. hotel seemed busy but not many appeared in the nice comfy lounge/ bar area at night, also free wi-fi around this area, may be down to a lot of older clientele at this time of year which may have had bearing on the fact there was next to no entertainment at night , my one major fault with the hotel. all the staff were friendly hard working nothing seemed a problem special thanks to the bar staff who ignored queue jumpers and served most people in the right order. hotel is situated top of small hill ,when you go down to main road turn left for long gradual climb into town or plenty buses taxis or turn right flat road and left down towards beach 5 min. away 15 min. walk to benalmadena. i think you will now see this hotel has a lot more pluses than negatives definitely value for money.

Room Tip: ask for room 522 great view good all round accesss
