Stayed here for a week end of October 27th, reception was adequate, pleasant staff, really helpful don't know what previous reviewers got to complain about, rooms are adequate bathroom was of good size, balcony was fairly small tho enough for two people, good views of the sea and beach.
Breakfast was good, evening meals were after a week a bit repetitive but still found something to eat, drinks were pricey but no different than any other hotel, hotel was in a good position close to shops via lifts, also train station was close by too, take a trip to the marina in benalmandena beautiful location, 4 star only because of the facility's it offers maybe a good 3 star all in all

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Melia Costa del Sol. The hotel has a very nice location just across the road from Playa Bajondillo. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout. Rooms are spacious and well equipped, the free wi-fi service which also works in the guest rooms was probably the best I have experienced in any hotel I have stayed in, reliable and a good speed, though you can only use one device at a time per room number. The breakfast buffet was very good with a wide range of choices, including low-sugar and alternatives for those with common allergies. All in all a nice relaxing four days, I would definitely recommend this hotel and would return again if we are in the area.

Room Tip: All rooms look out over the beach, though I would ask for a western facing room as the eastern facing rooms get very little direct sun.

The building is ugly and the rooms are old-fashioned, with cheap furniture pretending to be high class antiques. Only stayed one night, but thank God that was the original plan, as I would not have stayed there for another minute. At least the bathrooms were recently (last 5 years) remodeled. Most rooms have balconies with ocean views. The hallways are grim and dark, and the elevators are not sufficient for such a humongous place; you may take 10-15 minutes to get down to the lobby from your room. The breakfast buffet is excellent, even though the cook overcooked my omelet to death. In the buffet there are many choices to have from a healthy breakfast to a hearty meal. The air conditioning system needs a major overhaul throughout the entire hotel, especially at the breakfast buffet.

We greatly appreciate your feedback , we are sorry that you also had some disappointing comments to make.
Please rest assured we have taken all your points on board for consideration as this was clearly not up to our usual Melia Hotels International standards.

We were part of a tour group ... Our initial room had a terrible smoky smell so we were moved to another floor. The hotel was definitely not a 4 star hotel. The “ocean view” was available really only from the terrace (opening the door took a good deal of strength) and then only if you went to lean over the railing to look between the hotel and the next building. It was hot and the air conditioning struggled to work against the sun beating into the room making it feel something like a sauna unless you closed the curtains giving you no “view” at all. The food – breakfast and the dinner – were fine and there were lots of options. We requested additional pillows multiple times during our two day stay but they never came. My son-in-law wanted to go to the beach (directly across the street) & followed the directions to obtain a towel for beach use. Only problem, he went to get the towel just after 1pm. Towels were not available between 1 &4! Ridiculous … this definitely should have been explained to us. When addressed with Reception, he was basically told ‘too bad.’ No attempt was made to get him a towel … pretty poor service. The Spain “afternoon break – siesta – whatever you want to call it, seems to supersede good customer service. Also the tour director told us not to drink the water ... only use bottled water and we did follow that suggestion. One gal on the tour did not use only bottled water and she did have intestinal problems. The rest of the group seemed to be okay but most that I spoke with did follow the bottled water only suggestion.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for non-smoking room at check in. Because we had booked as non-smoking with the tour group & tour director handled check in there was no way to know about the room smell till we got there.

We value the feedback that you give us about the hotel, it's very important for us know the experience of our guests with your prospect, as it helps us to improve the quality of our services and thereby improve the satisfaction of our guests.
Neverthelles i consider important to inform you that not all the rooms have the same views and same rates, and this allocation it´s made regarding the rates , as if you check in our web, we sell as well partial view rooms with reduced prices.

Thanks again for the time you took to write about your experience.

Kind Regards

Stayed at this hotel in Nov 2013. Unimpressed!

We arrived at the hotel at about 7 in the evening on a Friday night to find a queue of people waiting to speak with the receptionist &/or to check in and only one person at the reception. She argued with a guest about whether he really knew his room number and wanted to see his passport, which he patiently told her was Inside the room to which his key was not allowing him access to. She smirked and seemed unconvinced. I thought that was pretty rude considering that it would have been easy enough to check against the names or to accompany him to the room. When it was our turn, she insisted that we return to the parking to find the number plate of our -rental-car. There was no one to help us with our luggage. This is not what 4-star service usually is.

The lobby was soul-less and the room less than average. I would rate this hotel as a 3 star rather than a 4-star. The parking was convenient and the location is just across the street from the beach, which is nice. They gave us a side room, so the view was uninspiring. The beds were uncomfortable and the pillows lack proper stuffing. We did not have very comfortable sleep.

All in all, I would not choose to stay here again.
