Aparthotel Puerto Azul Marbella
Ranked #7 of 69 Hotels in Marbella
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 4, 2011

Does the hotel have the issues mentioned in selected other reviews, well yes it does in some ways but let's be honest in saying that as far as hotels of this standard go the Aparthotel Puerto Azul and their staff can hold their heads high in pride.

Like many Spanish "Costa" accomodation blocks there is noise within the hotel on a 24/7 basis however you must remember that the floors and marble and the sound does carry all too easily. It's unfair to ask others to creep around as they are on holiday too, this isn't a business class nor five star hotel and our group did distrurb others at 1am on returning to the hotel with laughter and conversation within the room, door closed on both balcony and hallway - the group consisted of four people forty years plus and two pensioners - this is unavoidable in the class of hotel and all in all I had no problem with other guests although we could hear them clearly. C'mon it was thirty odd quid a night and here's what you get...

A location on Marbella beach with partial sea views just seconds from lively restaurants and bars which smell great, there are more 'club' style establishments to the rear away from the rooms and the pool whilst small is functional. The reception is efficient and their rules exist because most world wize travellers are in fact total idiots, €20 deposit for your aircon and telly remote is fair enough so stop moaning you whinging Brits... the rooms are clean as well as functional although yes somewhat in need of an update but then again do you want to pay more for your room when digital television with multi-language is available as well as everything you need for a basic stay. Are you there for the hotel amenities, no, well then what is your problem, ah, you are too tight to pay for the 5* spa Sir but still wish to complain, we understand...

Honestly you really can not expect more for the money and the essential question is simply would I recommend the hotel and would I return to the hotel, the answer is yes and yes. And to address the complaint from another reviewer about parking charges, well we parked in the underground car park nearby and it was indeed €30 on the first night (note the machine only takes €5 and €10 notes) as we arrived at eleven p.m but the following day moved to the car park suggested by the staff only to find several places to park in the street which were F-R-E-E opposite the cinema and supermarket, yes F-R-E-E. As fortunately my brain was attached to my eyeballs...

Stay there and be fair, you'll love the location...

Room Tip: High Floor = Better View and Less Noise from Rooms Above

Just returned from 3 nights at the Puerto Azul, fantastic stay. Greeted at reception by extremely helpful and friendly staff. The apartment was very big (we'd a side sea view) we did ask could we upgrade to sea view but unfortunately it was booked up. The balcony ran along the lenght of the bedroom, sitting room and kitchen. It was spotlessly clean. On the sunday we bumped into the very friendly cleaner and asked for an extra towel, she was lovely and came back with 3 new towels for us even though they don't clean the rooms on sundays. It is right on the beach front, there is a nice restaurant Brunos cafe for lunch. Avoid Cappucino, the staff are rude, slow service and the food was terrible (the burger was raw, we asked was this normally how they served it, they said no, but still charged for it even though we didn't eat it), very expensive.
For a fantastic meal go to The Orange Tree, fabulous food, good price.
We paid 59 euro each way for a transfer with Transfersairportmalaga and they were fantastic, friendly staff, lovely big people carrier for the 3 of us and bang on time.
We plan on coming back next year and will stay here again and use the transfer company again too.

Rooms definitely need to be refurbished, this is not what you're expecting from a 3 stars aparthotel (see pics).
In the day of our arrival there was a terrible smell coming from the toilet, so I asked for another room with no success (even if the hotel was not fully booked). The smell was still there the morning after, so I asked the reception if it was possible to do something and in 10 minutes a plummer (or supposed to be, as he seemed to work for the hotel) came. He didn't fix the problem, but the smell was more tolerable. The toilet furniture is quite good and what you could expect from a 3 stars.

Rooms are not very well isolated against noise: during our last night our room's neighbours had some trouble with the police, so for about 1 hour we had people talking loud in front of our door...
The morning after at 9 o'clock someone decided it was time to cut the grass of the hotel field (located under our balcony...) of course using a noisy lawnmower!
Maybe it would be nice if they could do it during the day when guests are not sleeping.
Sat tv doesn't offer a wide selection of channels (only spanish and english channels).
For the remote controls (television and A/C) you'll have to leave a 20 euros deposit.
Kitchen:There's no microwave and no coffee boiler. (only a so called moka, but if'you're not italian or spanish I guess you don't even know how to use it)
We found some cups not exactly clean (see pics) but apart for this little problem the cleaning woman was very efficient.
Hotel staff nice and friendly.
The pool side would be ok for one or two families, not for an hotel, but in just one minute you're on the beach (the hotel is located on the paseo maritimo) so not a big problem.

On arrival was greeted by good English speaking receptionist and room was ready straight away.

Rooms are decent sized and have a kitchen etc with a nice bathroom and balcony

Pool is small but a stone throw away from the beach! Plus using the sun beds beside the pool beats paying 5€ every day to use the sun beds on the beach.

Ideal location as on the strip. Got nice places to eat. Supermarket 5 mins from there also if you wish to purchase items.

Reception is friendly as they know prices and places to go

11 to 12€ for taxi to banus or use the locl transport for 4€

Overall very very happy with the place and will for sure come back.

Thank you

rated a 4 star but more like a 3 star by Irish standards.
location very central and nicely located for a walk on the promenade or beach. Hard to get parking as non hotel guests park around the hotel to visit restaurants and the beach. Our apartment was an okay size but there was an overwhelming smell of Indian spices which remained in the apartment for our 4 day stay. We asked to be moved but there was no other apartment available. Also the pool was quite dirty as it is surrounded by trees and the whole area seemed to attract alot of insects. On the upside staff were friendly and our room was cleaned daily while we were there.

Think about it, pay say 10 Euros a day for a couple of sunbeds on the beach or pay about the same for your own balcony with 2 sunbeds, table and 4 chairs directly overlooking the beach, sun all day and your fridge within easy reach as you sip cocktails and people watch in private.....! This hotel is a little dated and the bathroom is small, but it really is clean and the staff are really attentive and the location is enviable. But why stay in, get out there and enjoy the bars (near the Marina) or any of the vast number of restaurants from all corners of the World. Fancy a stroll - you can walk to Puerto Banus in just over an hour along the promenade (though about 50 metres is across sand) and stop along the way for refreshments. It will cost about 10 Euros in a taxi to get back. Fancy shopping, don't worry, Marbella is a City where people live not just visit so you shop for just about anything - I saw a real Bugatti Veyron in a shop window! I think July is great for sales in the shops, so make a note 70% off in loads of shops. Unfortunately I had to go to accident and emergency where you need your health card and your Passport, but otherwise it was just like home, long queues but great service..

What are you waiting for - get booking and enjoy...

Room Tip: Ask for the sea view, what you pay extra is worth it...

stayed 26 june to 1 july 2011.the first night woken at 5.30am by noisy group running between each others rooms drunk, and being very noisy.another guest banged on their doors loudly but was sworn at.i went to reception who phoned the groups to keep the noise down.they finally did but i was met by abusive drunks in the corridor.two of the group were in the next room and you could hear them continue to shout and swear through the thin walls.i gave up by then.fortunately the next day they all left.
nice apartments with separate bedroom lounge kitchen and en suite all separately air conditioned.nice balcony view.i got the room for 260 euros for the 5 nights by booking with the hotel direct a couple of months before.this went up to about 600 euros a week before so book early.
only 50 yards from the beach so great location.
however the walls are paper thin so you can everything.there is the constant noise of stilettoes on the hard floors and rolling suitcases, and inconsiderate guests being loud and scraping furniture.
i would take a good set of earplugs when staying here.if you can sleep through the above you will have a great stay.
i spoke to a couple of the quieter groups and they said they were inspired to go to marbella through the programme "the only way is essex".they felt fed up because all the partying is in puerto banus, and found marbella boring due to the family and friendly and quiet atmosphere.well i like marbella this way and the quicker these groups realise marbella isnt puerto banus the better.
there is no parking at the hotel.you can drive around ages trying to find a space or pay extortionate rates in the car parks.

Thanks for staying with us and for your comments. We take it very serious if guests do not respect the rest of our other's guests, and we apologize for their uncivilised behaviour. We did take actions fast to remedy this, but we apologize as well for the inconvenience you still suffered.
Fortunately we firmly state that this situation was a rare exception.
Regarding your remarks about the parking options it could be interesting for other readers to inform the current rates (at july 8th, 2011) in the public parking of the Plaza del Mar at 200m distance from us : the rate varies between 16,50 EUR for 24 hours and 90 EUR for one month.
Best regards,
Miguel Mitrotti,
