“absolutely fabulous - cant actually believe some of the reviews on here”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

Fabulous hotel, rooms nice and big, we had one with a sea view. If I stayed again Id go with ground floor overlooking the pool areas, they had wee outside sitting area and look lovely. Breakfast fab, includes a nice wee glass of cava if you fancy. Never seen anybody at pool moving towels, the pool areas were amazing. We used the family friendly area, even although we had no kids, we found the adult pool just a bit too quiet. Which is great as it gives something for everyone. Used room service on a night I was not feeling 100%, very efficient. My only niggle, and its tiny was the time it takes to check in!!! took an age without too many smiles...

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor with access to pool area you get an extra wee bit to sit out.

Excellent location, just a 10 minute walk into town, and two minutes to the beach. Also Melia has now provided free wi-fi in all rooms ( from beginning of Sept), not just Level 1 and public areas.

One slight critism, is the lack of information immediately available without asking Reception first. That said experience suggests this is more typical with Spanish Hotels, including any write up about the hotel itself and it's amenities, which we're all good.

We went half-board and recommend such as the cost each night for dinner was shown as euro 50 per head. While the choice was repetitive in nature, the quality and quantity was excellent, including freshly cooked fish and meat right in front of you!

Staff were friendly and service efficient, too.

All in all an excellent location and well run hotel. Thank you to the management and staff.

Room Tip: All appeared to be good, we were on the second ( in UK first) floor, over looking the garden and poo...

Have stayed for a week (actually just got back 3 days ago). Pretty much agree with everything "Judith M" said reg. this place since we also booked the Level room. Size of the room was the same as standart but had extras, like free unlimited wi-fi, Espresso machine and the access to the Level Lounge where we could enjoy drinks and snacks. Besides that we used our bonus - Day bed (pavillion some may call) - which was quite helpful considering that most of the visitors were ignoring "sunbed policy" (some were running down to the pool at 7.30 am "booking" the beds).
As up to me and my friends everything was lovely. I liked the rooms - marble floors (nice to walk barefoot), spacious, cool, clean. As Level guests we were "treated" to fresh towels twice a day.
I really liked the crew - though some extra smiles wouldn't hurt (no offense, guys). Still everyone we ran into were nice and helpfull.
The location, I think, is quite superb: not too far from the airport, close to the center of Marbella, 10 minute walk to Puerto Banus, quite desent distance to Taifa...
Enjoyed the food, enjoyed the place, enjoyed the weather.

Have stayed at this hotel on many occasions previously but this was the first visit in five years.
The hotel has had a refurb since then so we booked a Level Room. This is their VIP service with it's own lounge with check in facilities, drinks and snacks service. At first I thought it a bit pretentious since you were separate from the other guests and could not sit outside but it served its purpose and allowed us to have a light lunch with a drink, either a soft drink or wine or beer, for no extra charge. Since we had booked for half board this definitely saved us money. There is not much of a difference as regards the rooms, but the Level ones have free wifi access, most useful but with patchy service, and an Espresso machine, plenty toiletries etc...
As regards the service, I have no complaints and, if anything, I would say I found some of the guests very rude to the staff, rather than the other way round. The staff have mostly been there for many years.
The previous reviewer mentioned the "sunbed police" but we saw no sign of that, rather there were still the people who book sunbeds and don't return until lunchtime but there are plenty of beds for everyone.
I would return without hesitation to the hotel but I still find Puerto Banus a rather shabby town.

Room Tip: For extras book a Level room, preferably with a side sea view.

This place was absolutely fine for our short break. We went off season so it was pretty quiet- I imagine there could be quite a lot of hen does etc come high season. But this is Banus! Probably not the place for a romantic break and not massively luxurious, but has all the usual Melia style and clean lines. I imagine above average in the area. The phone call I got frm the Sol Melia desk enticing me with a secret gift (rubbish branded bag hook) and trying to persuade me to attend a 2 hr presentation (timeshare) on my 2 night short break (as if!) irked me greatly, hence 3 stars not 4.

I can only apologise if anybody booked this hotel based on my glowing review after our first visit there in May this year.
What a difference 4 months makes!!
I will try to keep this as brief as I can:-
1. Do not stay in a ground floor room. There was often an almost unbearable stench of sewage throughout the ground floor corridors.
2. The children's pool is surrounded by hundreds of flies that constantly attack you, flying in your ears, eyes and mouth as you try to sunbathe.
3. The 'sunbed police' run this hotel like a prison camp. If you leave your sunbed for over 20 minutes, you will return to find either an obnoxious written warning on your bed, or your belongings will have been stolen by the hotel pool staff. This includes if you are having a short lunch break in their hotel outside snack area. Beware if you like to swim for long periods!!
There are no signs or notifications that this will happen so you will be made to feel like a criminal when it does. Whilst the staff were more than polite and apologetic when we complained about this, nothing was resolved and it continued to happen.
4. The nearest place to buy water from, other than the hotel bar, is about a half mile walk, over the motorway bridge.
5. The sign in the clearly marked 'Adults Only Area' of the pool is not adhered to. Young children were playing in the adults pool every day during our sentence....sorry, I mean 'stay'. I questioned this a few times but never received an answer.
6. Newspapers are available for delivery to your room daily...but only if you are fluent in Spanish. No English papers are available.

Love the resort but will never stay here again, we were counting down the days until we could leave so we could stop worrying about our belongings disappearing from the poolside.

stayed in this hotel for 7 nights during August 2012. Having stayed up the road in Gran melia Don Pepe only one month earlier we had certain expectations of this hotel and the Melia brand, external facilities wise these were met, but again their service (both as a hotel and a company) let them down severely.

I had initially booked for 6 nights and called Melia direct in Madrid to add an extra night on the tail of the holiday. they booked me both front and rear end extra days, when i attempted to cancel toe extra night at the beginning i was told their systems was down and to call the hotel to explain, which i did...only for them to put me back through to melia after explaining (repeat thios process about 4 times from here before somebody actually listens and not just waits to speak) i was then told to speak to reception upon arrival and they could help.

so i arrived and they knew nothing about it, i had been charged the full half board rate for the stay that i had not stayed even though i couldn't cancel. this is just one instance of how their lack of understanding and inability to listen caused confusion, there are many others but i don't have the time to write.

on the hotel... set in very quiet grounds just off the beach by PB, in tropical surroundings with a waterfall lagoon pool, and adult area that looks lovely both daytime and when lit up during the night, the hotel easily meets its 4 star allocation for these reasons. the rooms are reasonably spacious and comfortable, they are also very cool and are regularly turned down by maids, towels changed etc - very good on this front.

the restaurant offers a really good quality buffet (does get a bit tedious after 7 days though, pretty similar food non stop), the breakfast is a big buffet, with all foods you could want for a breakfast, good quality also.

BUT - here in 100 degrees marbella i met the most stupid rule of an outside terrace restaurant i have EVER met - you MUST ear trousers in the evening...now i understand if we are in Claridges, or the savoy at night...but NOT in scorching hot Spain...and not when trousers (i use the term VERY lightly) are a must, tops don't matter - i saw some right scruffbags wearing roundneck shorts which had clearly come free with a packet of biscuits somewhere in darkest Moscow!

If you are Spanish, or Italian i highly recommend this place, if you are English with a family like me then either be prepared to be put second, wait, be ignored or spoken down to, or not be allowed to wear tailored shorts and deck shoes in an outdoor dining terrace (even though i looked better than every other bloke in that place...and thats with my towel wrapped around me).

anyway, i would probably look at other hotels in the area next time or just rent a villa for all of the hidden costs and charges, and for the sheer convenience.

i would stay again just not with Children as the kids club is not accommodating to anyone that isnt spanish.

Room Tip: ask for Pool facing room
