What to expect, a pool/beach holiday centred on the hotel, unless you are prepared to travel a few miles to Marbella for some alternative entertainment.
The hotel is fine, it has some nice gardens which are well maintained, along with an attractive chalet style layout. there are also rooms in the hotel with pool/sea views.
Food. There was a good buffet selection of quality and quantity. our only issue was the scrum of people at breakfast [lunch and dinner better] and a lot of the hot dishes were not !
Entertainment. aimed at the children and The Spanish guests, not much to get your attention here.to be fair we only watched 3 or 4 times,so maybe better nights were missed.
Day time activities, there were various organised games going on,including a small rifle range and archery. There is an indoor pool which is open from end of Sept.
The beach is good and is right next to the sunbed area, there is a fence which keeps the traders selling fake sunglasses etc from getting into the hotel grounds.
Service, well what can I say !! apart from being greeted at reception on arrival after midnight, with the news that they had kept some dinner ready for us [a nice touch we thought] I have never stayed in a hotel with such a strange attitude to customer service.
especiallly behind the bar, you would get your drink ok. but without any manners whatsoever, your card would almost be snatched out of your hand and the drinks slammed down in front of you.Hello or thank you would of been nice but they were the same to everyone, so don't get a complex about it. ps. go for the all inclusive if you use it a lot it is good value.
Rooms We were in a chalet which had two large double beds and a good sized bathroom, everything worked but it is close to being in need of a makeover. Don't worry about being near the main road, you can't hear the traffic.
Also if you choose a room with a sea view it may overlook the pool/entertainment area so an early night may be a problem.

I cannot speak well about our stay in this hotel in june 2010.

The hotel is assembled very beautifully in the style of an andalucian village and cosits of one main building and many bungalows, but service is very depending to who you speak, but mainly not existend.

When you book this hotel, please be in the mind that it is NOT located in or near the centre of Marbella. It is actually somewhere between Cala de Mijas and Marbella. They used to have a free bus service into the centre, but this has been discontinued. However, there is a bus stop some 300m from the hotel called like the hotel itself "Hotel Marbella Playa" which has bus service at least twice an hour, operated by the Portillo bus company. If you come from Fuengirola (for Renfe-Cercanias service to the airport or Malaga centre) the bus number is M220 and takes about 45 minutes, the fare was 1,85 € per person. To Marbella it's M220 (which is faster) or L7 for 1,15 €. If you board the bus in Fuengirola you need to buy a ticket in advance from the shelter at the bus station.

We arrived there on 21st June and were very surprised how lovely the entrance building was. As we arrived very early we were given two drink vouchers to have beverages at the pool-bar. There war no special "welcome" or so, the guy just took the voucher, made copies of our id-cards and gave us the beverage coupon and a copied map of the hotel setting. We were told not to come back before 45 minutes were over.

So we came back 60 minutes later to be told to "sit down". Another hour later the same guy asked us for our id-cards and the voucher (he REALLY didn't remember us! And there weren't many guests arriving). So we finally got the keys. We had to ask him when and where diner and breakfast would be served, he told us diner would be 19 to 21 'o clock, which would later turn out wrong. No need to mention he marked an entirely different corner of the setting instead of the one where the bungalow really was.

After we went in, we noticed that we looked on a massive white wall instead of the whole garden setting, telly and air-con didn't work and the minibar was empty (they are all empty and turned off). Because we booked in December for this trip and were staying for two weeks we wanted at least an "ok-ish" room with telly and air-con, but they told us a change would not be possible and we should complain to the tour operator. After huge discussions they said that we could "eventually" change the next date, if we come to the reception at 11 am, as we did.

Luckily they changed the room and we got an amazing room with a stunning view to the main fountain and the place in front of the main building, however we had to find out air-con didn't work as well and in this room the fan didn't as well. They send a technician to fix it and he "tried to repair" the air-con russian, really (!), by knocking on the Ceiling! Further we got told not to put the fan higher than the modus "low" as the two higher settings might be dangerous.

When we tried to use the toilet flush in the bathroom and it the button "jumped" out it was the time for us to call our tour agent, who just managed that the hotel sent the technician (4 times!) again and didn't even agree to a room change on his request. So he tried to rebook us to a different hotel for the next day, which he confirmed on 10:30 am and noticed us we must check out by 12. However, due to San Juan being on that week hotels in the whole area were very full and he only managed to book a hotel which was in no way comparable (Gran Hotel Costa Del Sol, Cala de Mijas) and also sold at half price coming with all-in instead of half board. As he said there would no other hotels be possible, he offered to book us back into our beloved Marbella Playa.

To our surprise at this time we have been offered two rooms to "look first". One in the main building and a very lovely bungalow, which we took. No need to mention, that in both rooms air-con was working fine. However, what things took to the top was the fact that from now on the hotel only cleaned our room twice per wek, despite our tour agent has ensured us this should happen daily. So no new towels and made beds in a four star hotel. Okay. However, on one day they made the beds but missed to change the towels, because they weren’t put into the bathtube.

The only good thing I can say about his hotel is the food, which was always lovely, but it's served quite late, from 19:30 to 22 pm. If you go very late, when many spanish families go it can sometimes be noisy in the restaurant and the waiters seem to be mostly assistance workers, but the selection of food was lovely. A little hint is that they have put the ice-cream into yogurt packages (yeah, really). You can find it just behind the crepe-stand.

At one time in the week you can have "speciality diner" right in front of the beach which was for us a really unforgettable experience!

Animation is only in Spanish and not really good, and the waterslide only for small children. Most "older" people got stuck in the middle of it.

They also have a fitness room (most broken), some gambling machines and a lovely 9 hole minigolf place (but only 3 mingold clubs). Internet computers in the loby are 1 Euro for ten minutes. If you wish to have the safe in your room activated they charge 22€ per week for that.

However, due to all the stress we had we finally managed to changed to LTI Playacalida which was far superior.

If you go to this hotel, think twice. If you’re lucky you get one of the very beautiful rooms (mostly numbers 3xx ), however service is not that what you might expect from a 4 star hotel.

I have stayed 2 weeks in this hotel and overall opinion is very good
Room: spacious and clean. Very nice bungalows. Should get ride of the cats…
Food: good and varied.
Swimming pool bar: crowded with slow waiters that give preference to Spanish tourist
Beach/swimming pool OK
Reception: the minus of the trip. At check in several guests were attended at the same time, which resulted in long time waiting. At check out not even a 'Thank you' or 'Hope you enjoyed your stay', they seemed bored in answering questions and was like they were doing us a favour.
Animation: very poor

Once we upgraded to a Junior Suite (at an extra cost of 500.00) the room was wonderful it had a hot tub, walk in wardrobe and plenty of space for the 4 of us.We have a 5 year old and a 16 month old,,,and would have found it impossible to stay in the double room that we booked it was just far to small and i really dont know where the cot would have been put. The staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful. The hotel was exceptionally clean. Our main problem was that there were no english people there at all. It was very spanish/ german orientated which was not a problem for myself or my husband but my little boy wouldnt join the kids club because he couldnt understand the other children. The pools were great, both the small pool and large pool had a water slide which my son loved... The big pool was deep all the way through and only really suitable for very strong swimmers... As the hotel was mainly spanish dinner wasnt avalible until19.30 and the kids disco didnt start until 10pm my children found this quite hard at first as they are not used to being up so late. premium drinks were given in the all inclusive deal and the food in the hotel was wonderful. Overall I would definately go back with my husband but im not sure it was very suitable for the children but only because of the language barriers.

We stayed in a bungalow room which had capacity for huge and comfy bed and nothing else. Our baby girl slept in a cot, and there was no space for us to move. Very small/old-fashioned tv set with a limited number of programmes. We had a small garden, but our bad luck - you had to climb up on the narrow stairs to get there. That was pretty dangerous for our 2 year baby girl.

The bathroom was quite spacy and comfortable for us unlike the room.

We liked lots of greenery surrounding the bungalows, the hot internal swimming pool with jacuzzi, playing mini golf with our baby girl and variety of food in the buffet.

We did not like long lines to get into the buffet restaurant, small room, no activities in a baby club, terrible playground for kids.

That was a one time experience for us with Lti Marbella Playa. Overall not painful but no great things to recommend to a friend.

As mentioned, this hotel is not is not conistent. This is not due to the hotel or staff but to guests and seasons. It is also due largely to the credit crunch and having to accommodate those they may not have had to before! I first visitied here about 2005. I went with Saga but it was the end of their season so there were no other Saga guests there. I am not fond of heights and was put in a bungalow in the grounds. This was great, although I can imagine with several people next door and a dog that barked more than the one I had next door it would have been horrific. The exercise room was not really that even then. Machines not working and a piece missing from a new one, also kids could just walk in so not worth going into really. I imagine this has been mentioned numerous times but it is not the manager who is at fault it is the chain of hotels. I went again in 2007 close to Easter and this time was not nice. Hoards of coach loads arrived and yes there were queues outside the front door. What was worse was the behaviour of the people, they did not seem to be on holiday, they wore no holiday clothes or seemed to be enjoying being there and none seemed to know how to behave in a hotel. The food of course gets boring. They cater for a huge number and as part of a chain they do their best. It is a short journey to Marabella and there is the coach but if you just want to be around the hotel you are stuck walking along the motorway or walking along the beach. If you are on your own this is not fun for the only thing you then have is the evening entertainment! Well it is in the evening and some nights work better than others but on the whole they do their best. The room does not work too well as it is long and thin and you need to put your towel on your table to get a good seat - if you see what I mean! Staff are friendly but some leave a little to be required. Gardens are very pretty and the general setting is probably the only reason to be there, the restaurant overlooks the pool, jacuzzi and then the beach is just outside the fence. Prettier than than is difficult. Access to and from the beach/room is via a card system. Full board is probably un-necessary or you tend to come back to the hotel for lunch rather than waste it. You can get a picnic lunch but I wasn't impressed by the one I had. Vegetarians are still something in Europe that are thought to be somewhat strange I think. There are vegetable dishes but I have never been impressed by anthing in this chain of hotels. Saga no longer use this hotel, the former created a situation that made it impossible for the mangement to accept them any more and guest had a horrid experience. The downside of that is that the rather gentile and calm atmosphere they brought with them has disappeared altogether. So if you are looking for a lovely venue and are happy to deal with anything else when you get there, then this is for you. Try not to worry about the cats, they live there too and have done for years. But don't feed them or that makes the problem worse. Be warned though they do use the lovely gardens as a big cat tray and that may sometimes be a little too close to your open window. The thing that will annoy most is the cost of the computers, which was 1 Euro for 10 mins. Find a cafe in Marbella where it is 1Euro for 1 hour! Porto Banus and the market is not too far and a local bus can take you there.
