El Rodeo
Ranked #40 of 70 Hotels in Marbella

We booked this hotel having read other complimentary reviews and have to agree that we and our 2 boys aged 16 and 14 had a wonderful week-long stay here. Our friends had just come back from a week in a five star hotel in Marbella and we looked at that one and couldn't justify the expense (twice the price at over €4,000 for 4 people for 7 nights!). Plus the 5* hotel is inconveniently situated as it turned out in the western end of Marbella away from the Old Town. Buoyed up by positive reviews of this 3 star hotel we took the risk. Not knowing the geography of Marbella we were very fortunate to find that the hotel El Rodeo is perfectly situated on the edge of the Old Town and only 200 yards from the sea front, marina and fabulous beach. Mostly families seemed to be staying, British and Spanish.
The desk staff were polite and helpful, the rooms clean , air-conditioned with good bath/shower and the towels changed frequently. OK the walls are a bit thin but no one complained about us. Our rooms had a fridge and a safe with a €2.50 daily charge which we happily paid. The roof of the hotel has a small pool with welcome shading, a bar, and free and plentiful loungers; we spent a lot of time up here reading and splashing about. Breakfast was the usual buffet affair; we didn't use the restaurant preferring local Tapas. We booked excursions (Costa Africa tours) to Gibralter (worthwhile) and Tangier (memorable!) at the helpful travel agent across the road from the hotel, although on our last day we noted the same trips could be booked at the hotel desk but were slightly more expensive for some reason.
So if you want somewhere convenient, relatively inexpensive and are basically an undemanding, relaxed sort of traveller who doesn't want a lot of facilities that you are not going to use then this fits the bill.

Myself and 4 of my closest friends recently spent a week at El rodeo, we expected very little from the hotel from the reviews we had read, but were pleasantly surprised of how great the hotel was! The location is perfect, close to everything, the beach is less then 5mins walk, there are many restaurants and bars close by too, the rooms were great, very clean and had everything we needed! we were half board and were very impressed with the choice of food catering for everyone, great for vegetarians also. Definitely recommend the hotel to younger guests and families. We're going back next year!

After reading reviews on here I was worried about what to expect. We found the reception staff friendly, more the men than the women.

The breakfast food we had was nice and included bacon, sausage, eggs, beans, cereal, pastries and fruit which were topped up if running low. There was plenty of choice for even the fussiest of eaters like me! The dining room staff were not that friendly.

The rooms were cleaned everyday and we were supplied with fresh towels and sheets. The cleaners were always friendly.
