Incosol Hotel and Spa
Ranked #54 of 70 Hotels in Marbella
Reviewed November 20, 2008

This hotel is amazing, I have read a lot of the reviews on the internet and I agree with all of the positive ones and not the negative ones! We stayed here at the end of season, for a chill out relaxing weekend, and the fact it was end of season probably contributed to the peacefullness and tranquility of the hotel and it surroundings but nethertheless I do not think we would have been disappointed whenever we went (i hope to go back a few times next year so I will let you know!) People moan about the location of this hotel but I cannot see why...you are set up in the mountains which adds to the quietness, all you can hear when you are laying by the pool is the waterfall that runs into it. There is no traffic or passing public noise to dusturb you, however you have the benefit of a courtesy bus every half hour to take you on the 10 minute journey into town. This runs until about 11.30 to bring you back I think but a taxi is only 10euro should you miss it. This I think gives you the best of both worlds if this is what you are looking for. The bedrooms are spacious and the bathrooms are very big with proper powerful showers, decent hairdryers, a good size balcony and very comfortable beds. The rooms also have 2 walldrobes which is handy if you away with a friend. The spa facilities are brilliant, we had massages and these were lovely. I have paid for the same massage at a 5 star hotel in London and paid twice as much, yet the Incosol was better. All staff were friendly, this was something I was worrying about as a review I had read said the staff were not helpful, in particular the Reception staff, but we couldnt fault them. We only ate breakfast in the hotel as this was included in our rate, and the variety was amazing, there was nothing they didnt have including champagne. If the breakfast spread was anything to go buy I am sure their lunch and dinner is amazing.

I have just returned from 4 nights at the Incosol and I had a lovely break. The hotel has great facilities - great spa in the basement with jacuzzi, steam room, spa room, ice room and hot beds - to use for free and lots of swimming pools in the gardens (one which leads to the indoor pool). I do not agree with the other reviews in relation to the hotel being faded or past it, I think the hotel has a lovely spanish charm and the rooms may be a little old fashioned but the have great balconies and comfy beds. You can even choose your own pillow at the reception.

The hotel staff were extremely helpful - in particular the receptionists. The breakfast buffet had something for everyone (including champagne!!) and the courtesy bus runs virtually every hour (last bus back at 1am) to Marbella (taking around 8 mins - being only 3 miles away). There is also a free bus to the nearest beach (only 3 mins away) and, if you like, you can walk to Marbella along the shore.

In relation to food, we filled up on lunch and took advantage of the free water machines in the spa area (in the basement) to fill up on water and skipped lunch choosing to have tapas in the evening in town instead. There is also a supermarket in town if you want to stock up on food to eat on the balcony.

My advice is to get a bus to Marbella bus station direct from Malaga airport as its only 4.85 Euros! You can then get a taxi from the bus station to the hotel for 9 euros.

We had a great stay at the Incosol and would recommend it to anyone - it is a beautiful and peaceful place to stay.

My husband & I have just returned from a 10 day break at the Incosol in Marbella. First reaction was a rather sinking feeling as we arrived at the hotel. However when we unpacked and had a look around our mood lightened. This hotel is classed as 5 star, however I don't think it deserves that status now. It is rather dated and the food definitely was not 5 star, although priced as such! The hotel is a 15 minute drive from Marbella town. A courtesy bus was available which was always punctual. The facilities were very good, such as the pools, spa etc. The Incosol is a very clean hotel and staff were extremely helpful. It is a lovely place if you need to relax and chill out.

I have stayed at this hotel twice and twice i was not dissapointed.I have stayed here both high and low season. The service is great, the spa is excellent, grat range of treatment's. hotel facilities are excellent. Location is not too bad, hotel has a bus service which drops you off in marbella town centre, last bus back at 11.30 pm, walking it would take you around 30 min to town centre and its a bit of an awkward walk. 10 euros in a taxi to marbella centre, and around 15 euros into puerto banus. this hotel is a great base is you like staying around the hotel during the day and venturing out at night. restuarants in hotel a little pricey although you get what you pay for.

The positive points first: hotel is quiet and in a quiet area (which is one of the things we were looking for), large heated swimming pool (inside and outside), good service of the poolmen, shuttle to Marbella. The weak points: the hotel celebrates its 35 years and it doesn't look like having ever incurred serious renovation during all these years. It does not only concern condition of amenities but also style. In the hotel, one regularly hears comments as to "how terrible" the decoration looks (even following the 70th design standards!). The hotel was rather empty, although it was the second week of eastern holidays in Europe. The huge lounge was always desert (maybe because the seating is particularly uncomfortable), which in the evening makes you feel you may be playing in "the shining". Lunch is expensive (55 Euros) if you decide to stay at the hotel to enjoy a lazy day. Regarding the room comfort: All fixtures in the bathrooms are loose and on the verge of falling apart. The hair dryer plastic tube, (very old model fixed on the wall) ruined by 35 years of hot air, had to be fixed four times, during our one week stay. Bathroom was smelly. Rooms are supposed to have AC, but reception informed us that it worked only for heating, despite the fact that rooms were exposed to the sun all day and it was pretty hot outside. And we could not even keep the window open at night because weather was a bit windy and it triggered a powerful air current through the AC system and a noice of turbine! As for the clinic aspect it comes from the fact that a vast majority of the customers spend their day in the same yellow bath robe, from breakfast on. One last thing: Do not book this hotel through hotels.com. All packages for this hotel proposed by this discounter on its web site were clearly and unequivocally including breakfast buffet. So you click and you get charged. But the e.mail confirmation you get subsequently does not say a word about breakfast. If you are a bit in a hurry, you miss it. We discovered the trick upon check out at the hotel, where we were requested to pay an additional 44 Euros per day for breakfast. We ended up paying 20% more than what was advertised and 10% more than if we had booked directly at the hotel the same room breakfast included. And we checked on our return that the hotels.com web site continued to advertise the package including breakfast (we printed the page as evidence). As a conclusion, one should prefer to go at Incosol for a recovery after surgical operation, rehab. etc. For this, the hotel would definitely be perfect.

The grand decor in this hotel may appear a little dated now but the Incosol is no fading establishment, in fact it might just be the best choice of hotel for you. It's got the best choice of swimming and spa pools, both heated and non-heated, I've ever experienced. Heated pools are a must for us for a winter week break and the pool, health and spa facilities were 5 star and very well cared for.

The Incosol is really a medical and rehabilitation spa so you'll find, unusually for tourist areas, many Spanish people using it. It's therefore more Spanish geared, which we found good and it had more friendly feel. All guests can of course obtain all the treatments or consultations but they are not cheap. We noticed many single people/guests on their own and learned most there receiving treatments.

Excellent courtesy bus service into Marbella centre- 10 min drive and the bus made late returns, which was useful. Lovely gardens at the Incosol. Rooms were fine, very comfy bed, spacious - only lacked a fridge really.Attentive friendly staff .

The mix and purpose of the hotel may not suit everyone but for us it was perfect for relaxation and well being.

I have stayed at incosol twice in the past, each time was in the summer and with a friend, with the express purpose of enjoying the spa facilities. This time I booked a family break with my husband and our 19 month old son. I booked the trip at the very last minute and as we were going in January and as I was unsure about the weather I specifically booked incosol as I knew that there was an indoor pool which we could use if the weather was bad. I managed to book us an excellent last minute deal and although it meant we were relegated to the "cheap seats" (our room looked out over the car park) the room was by no means lacking. They had provided a cot for our son and the bathroom was well stocked with a basket of goodies. We were provided with the uniform Incosol dressing gowns which everyone seems to wear all the time! The hotel entrance and geneal set up is very grand and there is an air of quiet dignity through out the hotel. The hotel grounds are immaculately kept and stunningly beautiful (so much so that you barely notice the ugly high rise hotel building).
Notwithstanding this we never once felt out of place as a family even when our son was shouting in the pool, running through the hotel, or playing football in the gardens. In fact he was a constant source of amusement for the staff and guests alike all of whom were very affectionate towards him, and often went out of their way to make him feel welcome. For instance the pool attendants would bring him inflatables to play with in the pool and the barman filled his juice cup with apple juice endlessly without charging us.
It is true that there are many people at the hotel receiving medical treatment (mainly of the cosmetic nature) but this did not make the place feel like a hospital. On the contrary the laid back feel just made the whole experience more relaxing for us. The guests are predominantly wealthy spanish and italian and to be honest this also gives a very sophisticated aire to the place!
Breakfast is served in a beautiful room looking out over one of the pools. There is masses of choice, either healthy or not so if you so choose! There is also a bar that serves light snacks and a fine dining restaurant. There is live entertainment in the bar each night and also activities during the day such as water aerobics and organised walks. There is a free bus into and back from Marbella.
The best (for us) was the swimming facilities. As I said at the beginning of this review we booked the hotel for the indoor pool. The indoor pool in fact leads to an outdoor pool which is heated in the winter. As the weather was so beautiful we were able to swim in the outdoor pool which in January is a real treat! There are sunloungers around the pool and as soon as you arrive a pool attendant comes and sets up your lounger for you, with a pool towel etc. You can order drinks from the bar which are then brought to you by the friendly bar man.
There is also a heated outdoor hydrotherapy pool as well as a well equipped gym a jacuzzi and a spa with sauna, turkish hamman and an ice room (we didn't go in there!)
In all we had a fantastic stay and will definitely be booking again.
