Description: This emblematic wine cellar built in an old house from the 18th century is a meeting place for people of all ages. It has welcomed many generations of artists, flamenco dancers or politicians. It is named after formerly popular city figures called 'los pimpis', young people who had helped ship crews or passengers and had become the first city guides. It is furnished in the style of Malaga, and offers local wines and delicious gastronomy which is very popular in the city. The soul of the restaurant is the lounge with the vintage wine barrels, signed by famous people, such as the family Picasso, the painter Barcelo, the bullfighter Cordobes, The Duchess of Alba, Carmen Thyssen and Antonio Banderas, who show the historical value of this place. This establisment is in the old town of Malaga, next to the Museum Picasso, La Alcazaba (the Citadel of Malaga) and the Roman Theatre.

Having been to this restaurant a few times, in all seasons. I would say that if your in Malaga it's a "must see" the place is beautiful, always always very busy, so if you want staff that are gonna fuss over you it's the wrong place, also remember your in Spain and it's authentic so brush up on your lingo and the local tastes before you attempt to read the menu. The Malaga virgen drink they widely advertised is delicious served ice cold ...great busy atmosphere and lovely food.

“Not to be missed”

Authentic, friendly efficient - reasonably priced. Loads of atmosphere and tapas was gr8 - we had iberian jamon, sardine fillets, crunchy whitebait with fried eggs - all very good. Would definitely come again.

“Come for the atmosphere, dont stay for the food.”

I would have to agree with some of the other reviews.
This is a nice BAR to come and have a drink but the food choice and taste is decidedly average.

A place full of guest , good dishes and effective waitors. A civic and wellcoming restaurant . We sure come back next time in Malaga.

“Dreadful food in a cramped room. Wished we had stopped just for a drink.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

I had heard great things about El Pimpi - a beautiful building and fantastic tapas. Our group were sorely disappointed. We were greeted in a friendly manner and efforts were made to seat us no problem, but in a cramped and dingy room with tiled walls and no atmosphere. I heard that there was a terrace - it seems we missed this as it was neither offered or shown to us.

The selection of dishes that we ordered were pretty awful. The serrano ham and meat platter was great but otherwise the various others, including a chorizo sausage in what can only be described as a 'part baked roll' back in the UK was bordering on pretty disgusting. The calamari was chewy and bland too. A tomato salad - tomatoes with salt scattered over them. Not good.

In short, if you can find the terrace with the views, have a drink and move on. I shan't be going back to eat
