“Superb small hotel overlooking Malaga”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

Very helpful and charming staff, great restaurant with superb view over Malaga, has a pool ideal for cooling down, car parking space, and the quiet location is set high up about Malaga just off the motorway but easy to miss the turnoff to the winding, uphill road to the hotel.

If you like a small (11 rooms only), family operated hotel with a gourmet restaurant, fabulous views over Malaga, and a quiet tranquil location, Villa Guadalupe is it. Rooms are very clean and well furnished. Owners are there at all times and very friendly as are the staff. Fluent English spoken. Great value for money and highly recommended. If arriving at night by car could be difficult, we had satnav so no problem. We stayed 5 nights so worked our way through the superb gourmet food served in the restaurant (at lunch time too).

Room Tip: Room 10 had lovely private covered balcony and those superb views

My partner and I had a fantastic time at the Hotel Villa Guadalupe! The wait staff was extremely helpful and generous and the food in the restaurant was absolutely amazing (you must try the lamb shoulder)! We were visiting Malaga, primarily to go hiking in the region. The hotel had a nice little pool and the ease of getting to the hotel from the motorway was a real plus. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel, but if you are not lucky enough to, then definitely go there for dinner.

Room Tip: I don't think there is bad room in the entire hotel.

Right, I'm compelled to write a few things about this hotel...it's quite simply the most magnificent (so called) 3* hotel imaginable, if you fancy a couple of days of R&R....friendly staff, superb views and quite incredible evening dinners....wow, the food has been soooooo good!

Room Tip: Room 5....awesome!

I find myself agreeing with the last reviewer, though not quite as unfavourably. We also arrived whilst a huge communion bash was underway, and though we were hungry we were asked to order quickly if we wanted something. Ate peanuts instead! Room had a balcony and a good view. Bed was comfy, shower powerful and hot, but it was all a little dated apart from the fabulous artwork. Certainly not a boutique hotel in my view. Food was fine - we were only there one night so had booked half board as I knew the hotel was not within easy reach of anywhere else we could eat - and service good. We had to leave by 8 so breakfast was deducted from our bill, which was a nice touch. Would like to go back primarily to explore the menu. Not sure I'd stay in the hotel again. We weren't bothered by noise but I did notice that the Walls seemed a little thin!

my husband and I do not enjoy the best of health, but no medication is better for us than a return visit to this hotel.
The magnificent views are unrivalled in malaga, and although up a steep hill,it is away from the noise and traffic.Unlike the multi starred hotels at twice the price in town.
If you pay and book a room with a balcony there is absolutely no noise from other rooms.
The food in the restaurent is magnificent, and nothing is too much trouble for the staff.
If something is not quite right just ask and it will be put right, and if you are without something it will be provided. That is what good service is all about.
The weather was hot when we stayed so the beautiful salt purified pool was blissful.
More than worth the effort of getting there, which is why we go there every time now, having been very disappointed by the glossy expensive mega hotels in town.

Room Tip: rooms five six and seven the best big balconies quiet great views ,near the pool.

Given the fulsome praise this venue has received from many in the tripadvisor community, I was really looking forward to my nine nights here. It got off to a bad start and didn't improve. When I arrived, a slightly harrassed young woman came to greet me (perhaps greet is exaggerating - there wasn't a smile or a welcome, just a frenzied explanation that there was a full hotel that weekend for Christenings and First Communions and that the restaurant was out of bounds for me. Great welcome.....thanks.
The room had some good points. The bed was comfortable, and there was a lot of hot water. There was a nifty electric shutter to keep the sunlight out for a late lie in. BUT.....
The pillows were rubbish. Even with two, I needed my coat underneath to take my head more than a few centimetres off the bed. The room was like a sixties three star hotel, and I've stayed in better hostels in Malaga. The view was indeed good, but to get to the hotel there was a fifteen minute walk up the steepest of hills from the nearest bus stop, so for most people a hire car or taxi would be a must (I walked, but I am very fit). The worst thing of the lot though is it is so noisy. If someone flushes a lavatory in a connecting room, it sounds like it is in yours. Also, when women choose to wear high heeled shoes (as most seemed to) it sounded like a horse trotting by. And trot they did, at three in the morning....at six in the morning.
Somebody on tripadvisor described this as a boutique hotel. It is less boutique and more market stall, with Fools and Horses the obvious comparison.
There are far better hotels than this in Malaga. I should hazard a guess that this is the fifth worst, not the fifth best.
