“An absolute joy to stay!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Hotel Villa Guadalupe is most likely the best three-star hotel you will ever stay at.
The genuine friendliness of the family members is fantastic; they will go above and beyond to make you feel at home as soon as you set foot through the door.
The hotel is situated outside the city of Malaga in the hills. However, a cab ride from the city center takes about 10-15 minutes. The train station is also a 15 minute drive away and from the airport it will take you about 20 minutes.

The rooms are spacious, clean and equipped with everything you need; air conditioning, a television, a safe, free WiFi, bathroom amenities etc. The pool area is covered by the Andalusian sun the entire day which is nice. But if you are looking for shade then the umbrellas are right there to provide that for you as well.

As commented by other Tripadvisors the food is of great quality. Amador uses beautiful ingredients in all his dishes. For instance he makes sorbets of the grapes from the garden or from the cactus fruit right from the hills. Furthermore Amador is specialized in sous-vide cooking which will boost your culinary experience even more.

Hosts Alexander and Candace are very friendly and are fluent in multiple languages which makes it easy to communicate with them, most likely one of the many reasons why guests from numerous nations find their way to the hills of Malaga.

Last but not least is the artwork in and around the hotel. The artwork has been created by their late mother Irene. It is absolutely beautiful and unique which makes the experience even more authentic.

All in all Villa Guadalupe is the place to go whenever you are in the Malaga area!

We chose this hotel as a stopping point for our first night in Spain before heading off on our tour of Andalusia. We didn't want to splash out on a coastal hotel and liked the idea of being up in the hills. The satnav found the place without a hitch but be warned, the road up is steep in places with a couple of hairpin bends. Once you arrive though you will instantly appreciate the effort in getting there as the views are fabulous. English is spoken by several of the staff and there is a real family run feel to the place. Rooms are located in villas around the property and the main building houses the communal areas. The layout is quirky being built on the side of a hill and the pool is reached by an elevator down. We had read that the restaurant “Amadour” was good so we afforded ourselves the chance to try it - we weren't disappointed; our meal was fabulous and the views from the restaurant over the city lights and out to sea were amazing. Not only was the food great but the price was very reasonable too. Thanks also to Candice, who upon checking out also provided us with some helpful tips for places to eat along our stay. Our regret was that we only stayed one night but we will be back as this is a very romantic location.

If you opt for this hotel, you will need a car or a taxi as it is located on a hill on the outskirts of the city. The journey will be well worth it though, as its location offers tranquility and superb views over the whole city of Malaga and its coastline. The hotel has been well planned out and the quality of the accommodation is excellent with much attention having being spent on the decor, both in the rooms and the communal areas. You enter the hotel from the private drive (which doubles as a parking area) and this floor offers the breakfast room and the adjacent award winning restaurant with its panoramic views. I highly recommend using the restaurant for your evening meal dues to the convenience and quality of the food - book half board when making your reservation - at a mere 20 euros for an excellently presented three course dinner, you simply cannot go wrong!!

In addition, there is a large outside terrace and a decent sized swimming pool and sun lounge area to the side of the hotel.

Try and book a room with a balcony - there seems little point in being in such a great location if you can't enjoy the view.

This would be the perfect start or end of your time in Andalucia as Malaga airport is a 20 minute drive away.

Room Tip: An additional 10 euros will guarantee a room with a balcony offering stunning views over the city

This is a very nice hotel on the top of a hill. We lived in the room with a balcony overlooking the city and the sea. The room was clean and spacious. The staff of the hotel is very friendly, helpful and welcoming, the manager very well knows English. The restaurant was amazing.

Nice rooms, excellent food, impressive view and a great swimming pool. A perfect start for our holiday. This small hotel is located quite far from the city centre on a hill overlooking Málaga, so you definitely need a car.

The hotel is really nice and the rooms are huge, but what elevates it above others is the view which is majestic. It was also a good hotel to use as a starting point to travel around the Costa del Sol since it gave easy access to the A7 to go either east or west. From the hotel we did day trips to Nerja and Frigiliana, Mijas and Marbella, Ronda and some journeys to the airport. The breakfast was really nice and quite comprehensive. All in all a great place to stay but I would say that it doesn't make sense to stay here without a car.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a balcony, wonderful place to have a takeway while watching most of Ma...
