Owner description: The building where Pablo Picasso was born in 1881 and lived until 1884 houses works and personal belongings of the artist and his family. A specialized library and an on-going program of temporary exhibitions and cultural activities complement the offer of Picasso's Birthplace Museum.

The Picasso Fundacion has undergone modernisation and in my opinion a certain sanitisation. Previously it was housed in a courtyarded villa which has now been incorprated into a very modern extension. Picasso left Malaga when he was 19 and never returned - I wonder why? The collection is a poor representaion of the 20th century's most original artist. Just a few early works, no cubist pictures, mostly second rate pictures from the thirties. Some of his ceramics looked like thay had been recovered from the dustbin, in particular a moulded dish that had not been properly fired which was cracked and covered in scorch marks. I'll bet Picasso would have been embarassed if he knew that was on display. (I have a degree in the History of Art) The little bistro in the Fundacion is excellent !!!

The museum is almost worth seeing on its own. Unfortunately they covered the walls in Picasso paintings and ruined this stately building. I suppose if you buy in to his work it'd be worthwhile but I'm not sure this is truly representative of his output. Obviously I'm not a fan, but because he was born here felt compelled and would gladly have the time and money back.

I wouldn't leave Malaga without visiting this place. However, apart from a few personal and family belongings there was not much to see. I would espect more (eg. multimedia activity)

This museum woke me up to Picasso's genuis above and beyond his paintings. He was amazingly talented in many areas including ceramics and this museum gives a real glimpse into this via sketchbooks and finished pieces. If you are lukewarm about him like I was, go and you will see more than you expected.

Right in the heart of old Malaga is this beautful old building which is home to some of Picasso's works that were donated by his family. Well presented and annotaed- a good way to see the development of his art over his lifetime and all the many mediums he worked with. We are not great art enthusiast but really found this intersting.
