“Worth a detour to the top of the hill”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2014

This hilltop castle has a great view over the city and only costs 60 cents if you're a pensioner. You can walk round the walls and the lower courtyards and take i. Great views of the city, port and bullring. Take the no 35 bus up and walk down. Steep and quite slippy you need to wear decent trainers.

“Great view!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2014

We were in Malaga for a few days in March. Temperature was around 20 C and lots of sunshine. We walked to the castle and back. I assume that the same walk would not be that great in July or August (because of the heat). Now we loved it. The walk up was no problem at all but down the road was very slippery. You have to wear decent shoes when walking (no flip-flops or high heals) and I yhink you have to be very careful when it rains.
Arriving at the top you have to pay for getting to the Castle, (only a few Euros). The views from the top arevery nice. You can walk around and have view of the harbour, the bullfighting arena, the sea, the stadion, Malaga town and its surroundings towards the mountains.
being in Malga you should go to the Castillo.

“Stunning Views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2014

Castillo de Gibralfaro was constructed in the 14th century to protect the Alcazaba. The site became a military garrison and coastal lookout post from1487 to1925. The fortification contains defensive devices like the big flanking tower, the rampart perimeter adapted to the terrain by zigzag walls and the angled gateway. Walking around the area takes about an hour and the views of the city and the bay are simply breathtaking. Some claim it to be the most stunning on the Costa del Sol.

“Great views - worth the walk up”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2014

I'd recommend walking up (start to the right of the Alcazaba). It takes about 20 minutes and although it's fairly steep there are plenty of viewpoints where you can rest and take in the view.
Once at the top, the walk around the walls offers excellent views. There's a cafe inside to recharge your batteries before walking back down the hill.

“A must see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2014

Anywhere near Malaga and this really is a must-see attraction , not so much for the historic background as the views...and the ramparts do frame some views very nicely.
