The Gibralfaro overlooks the city of Malaga and it's port and visitors can enjoy fantastic views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Look out for the parrots in the trees on the walk up to the Gibralfaro, they are very colourful. A useful tip is to visit on a Sunday when there is free entry after 2pm.

Contrary to what is stated in some guides, there is no internal link between the Gibralfaro and the Alcazaba. You can buy a joint ticket for the two but then have to exit and take the external path between the two. Unless you fancy a very steep long climb, take the number 35 bus from Alameda Principal and it will drop you off right outside the entrance.

Entry fee is cheap and there are lots of walls to scramble up and walk around, with stunning views over the town, the surrounding mountains, the port and the Mediterranean.

We liked it so much we visited twice. Loved the walk up and down all the battlements. And lying down in the warm sun on a wall in the garden. The cafe is a great spot for an early evening drink.
The walk down the hill through the gardens is well worth doing, with a viewpoint over the city half way down. Easy to get the no 35 bus up from Alameda Principal although it only goes at certain times.

Our 6 year old loved the climb up - he found a gravel path leading from the lookout point which led to the back of the castle. Our 4 year old found the climb to the top a bit much.

Great views. We took the tour bus up to the castle as it was on a steep hill. We could have walked and it would have been worth the views. There is a lovely cafe in the grounds for a coffee and the musuem had the uniforms of the Spanish soldiers throughout the ages. Very enjoyable visit.
