Owner description: Built between 1057 and 1063, this is probably the most important military fortification remaining from the Hispanic-Arabic period.

Reading the reviews by others, it seems there is a confusion between this structure and the Castle of Gibralfaro further up the hill. The Alcazaba is beautiful with gardens and fountains and is peaceful and refreshing after visiting the castle area. Be sure you buy a single ticket for both attractions. We visited the castle first and then enjoyed this even more.

You need comfortable shoes, mild temperature and a camera to make the most of the site. It has some lovely overlooking views and is great in February as there are few visitors and its cooler too (watch out for a spot of rain)!

This is a unique place. I would recommend to explore on foot, but you can use a lift. Tickets are cheap and best buy combined tickets with tickets to the castle.

Since you're already in the Old Town, you must visit the castle. It has a lot of nice views to the city and is beautifully maintained and furnished.

It really worth the entrance (2.25 euros) if you like history and if you are interested in places like this. You can buy the "combined" entrance to visit the castle too (3.75 euros for both).
Anyway, it's NOT recommendable if you have mobility problems
