Just a 45 minute drive inland from the busy coast . A pleasant road leads up into the countryside above the Lake at La Vinuela. The last bit of the road into the area known as Los Romanes is a bit steep and wiggly and I would not recommend it at night, but during the day when the sun is out and now with the almond trees in blossom is a pleasure. The Venta is typically Spanish but thats where it ends. The menu of the day is very good value for money at 9e, but go onto the a la carte menu and some delights await you . Interesting salads with nuts and seeds grilled chicken and lovely fresh leaves, scrambled eggs with plump prawns and asparagus, scallops grilled with a lovely sauce, to name but a few of the starters. Main courses of BBQ Iberian meat or 1kg T bones steaks to share on a hot stone, Lamb done in an almond sauce and a variety of fish. There are also some lovely veggie options including wild mushroom casserole which in itself is unusual in southern Spain..Even the ever present flan is more interesting being flavoured with strong coffee, but there are also other sweets to try or a selction of five to share. The.House wine is very drinkable at 8.50e a bottle. Great value for money and lovely views into the bargain

I only recently discovered that this restaurant had been added to Trip Advisor, and not suprisingly, there is not one negative comment about the place. I have been frequenting the place for over ten years, and hand on heart have never ever had a sub standard meal, this also applies to all of the guests and friends we have taken over the years. When we have guests over from the U.K. the first question is 'when are we going to El Charco'.
Obviously the prices in the restaurant have increased since we first started coming, but the place still gives fantastic value for money. The meat served here is easily the best prepared in the area, and is always cooked to perfection. This is a meat lovers paradise, but also caters for all other tastes. It would be impossible for anyone not to find anything they liked on the menu.
If you are planning to eat here, it is best to phone and reserve a table before hand, especially on a Sunday afternoon, as this is probably when it is at it's busiest.
The staff are very friendly and the service is second to none. However, don't take my word for it, give it a try !

this restaurant has the best quality steak I have ever tasted, never disappointed in the numerous visits we have made. Taken friends from all over the world and they all enjoy this typical Spanish restaurant run by Miguel and his family. Great varied menu to suit all pockets & tastes, great for all the family. Good reasonably priced wine and a view to die for. So lucky to live just up the road.

This is one of the best without a doubt, quality food every visit the owner Miquel knows how to deliver. The food is typical Spanish, thr steaks and meat from the BBQ is superb, clearly excellent quality of meat. The staff are fiendly and efficient the house wine is very good and the prices are very reasonalble espcially for the portion size you get its brilliant value for money. I never see this restaurant advertise, I think its is because they dont need to as their customers will do this for them. Wonderful views of Lake Vinuela.
