“Superb location good for families”

Don Curro is superbly located and you can walk to all the major sites. There are plenty of restaurants around. We went as a family of four, us and two teenagers. The family room was a converted suite and so our kids were in fact in an separate room, it would normally be the sitting room. We all shared the spacious bathroom. Excellent. Breakfast was very good and the dining room pleasant to sit in. Staff were friendly. If you want to go to the beach in Malaga the hotel provides you with beach towels.

Just had a lovely weekend in Malaga at the Don Curro, fab location, clean, comfortable & excellant staff.
Great breakfast - would stay again definately.
Very close to the cathedral, shops, and the superb marina.I would recommend trying to get a room on one of the higher floors,we were on the sixth floor and it was perfect. It also had one of the best showers that I`ve ever come across in a hotel.

We reserved rooms at this hotel last minute because we had to stay an extra day in Malaga unexpectedly. The first rooms had spring mattresses which were uncomfortable, but the staff quickly changed our rooms to ones with better beds. The location was great! Though old-fashioned, we found it charming, and everything worked well (air conditioning and showers). The Wi-Fi was dependable and free. We were grateful for a good night there and would return if In Malaga again.

The location wasn't any suprise ´cause I knew the street :-) When I booked a room, I wished it with balcony. It´s understandable that it couldn't have been quaranteed and I got a room (4th floor) with one window where I could saw a backyard. Not so nice. After the first night I decided to ask whether there would be a room with balcony. Yes, there was a one on the 8th floor. That room was also clean and the balcony was perfect for a sunbathe. WiFi could have worked better. On the last two days it was very poor. Connection was reseted a couple of times and it worked a while.
Breakfast was ok, I got everything I wanted. Lucky me fried bacon was not so fried and warm as I would like to get it. Twice I tried and at both times it was kinda lukewarm or less. Señorita Guadalupe was lovely. Staff in general, nothing to complain.

The hotel is very central situated, close to the main shopping street and the cathedral. The room was big enough and clean. The double bed was very narrow. Our room was overlooking to a not very pleasant courtyard. The breakfast is just average.
Very expensive (120 EUR): we have travelled all around Spain this August and this 3 stars hotel cost more the double price of a 4 stars room in a hotel in Valencia, Madrid and Granada. I hope this was due to a Spanish holiday (Semana de Feria) and it is not their usual rate. Anyway, the price was huge in my opinion.

We stayed two nights at this hotel, to repeat what many have said, it is very central, 20m to Barclays Bank, from the bank cross the road to the Tourist Info centre ( beware that some of the info provided is duff), cross the road again and walk along the harbour (amazing at night, restaurants, market) and left by the lighthouse to the beach ( if nothing else you must try the grilled sardines for 3 euros), turn right at Barclays Bank and you in a major shopping precinct that also leads to the Picasso Museum and the Alcazaba, and so on. A supermarket is a 7 min walk away, great to get your water etc and avoid the tourist prices charged. On the way you will pass the “Market”, similar to that in Barcelona, get your condiments here, huge selection of condiments you will not find anywhere else, cheap too.

Getting to the Hotel by car can be tricky, glad we went by taxi, you get to a point when you literally come off the road and over what looks like the pavement to gain access the road where the hotel is situated.

Small reception area, gets very busy around 12.00 and 13.00, so best avoid. Reception staff seem less than interested, after a nudge in the right direction, we managed to get a hello and good night. Décor is rather weird, a mix of contemporary and traditional Spanish, a mix that just does not work. Either the interior designer bagged some of the furniture etc as an Ebay job lot or completely lost the plot. This is a great shame as Spain has a very good reputation for design, just check out the harbour area. Then again given the room rates, just try and ignore the gross balustrades, heavy duty wood work on the walls, ole ole headboard and cupboard doors. Little wonder the rain forests are being felled, nicked the gold, now the timber?

Room is good size and the bathroom well appointed. Lift – two of, tiny, enough space for 2 persons and a bag. Seems that the reception and lift areas was compromised by having a very large stairway that hardly anyone uses. Hotel room can be noisy late at night, as in Naples the garbage collectors come around 1.00 am and it can sound like world war III.

Breakfast again as many have commented, given the room rate, excellent, do avoid the “scrambled” eggs or the “fried” eggs, ask for freshly made poached eggs. Interestingly the bacon is very good also the cake. Fruit juice in jugs sit on a cooled granite work surface, nice touch, juice is very good. Restaurant staff are very helpful.

The hotel does offer a late checkout option, ask well ahead, don’t know if they charge for this option, could be useful if you are taking a late night flight.

The train station for the train that takes you to the airport is a 15 min walk away, basically step out of the hotel turn right, 20m turn left by Barclays bank, 20m turn right and then a 200m or so walk, by taxi it should cost less than 20 euros even if the taxi driver decides to levy an extra high misc charge on the meter. The bandit driver charged us 24 euros from the airport to the hotel, the other dodgy driver charged 18 euros from the hotel to the airport.

Book well in advance as this is a very popular hotel given the very reasonable room rates and its location. Malaga is well worth a visit, plenty to do, people were most helpful even if they did not speak English especially when using local transport. Try the vino Malaga, enjoy!
