“Give yourself a lot of time”

Carmen Thyssen's collection of art goes on and on. We only did the main floor and it took us over an hour. Very impressive. The staff were very informative about Mrs. Thyssen and her life.

“For the connoisseur only.”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

This attraction was widely advertised around Malaga, we knew of the Spanish connection, so we thought it the correct thing to do by visiting. It is situated in the city centre, which helps For a few euros we paid for the complete tour.

The exhibits were sparsely set out, it was not busy and we were conscious of the ever vigilant attendants watching us out of the corner of their eyes. - Just try stepping over the black viewing line or attempting to get close to a picture and they would pounce - It was really off putting.

The paintings were mainly from the second half of the nineteenth century, unfortunately we were not familiar with any of the artists or the works on show for that matter. They seemed to like to paint a lot of countryside views and washerwomen. Could not imagine any of them hanging in my house or adorning the walls of my mansion when I win the Euro Lottery.

The whole exhibition was over four floors (there is a lift however), and we were pretty weary by the end of it. Definitely not an attraction for the family.

I think the problem is that it is an art connoisseur's collection and while we enjoy art, we are not in that category..

“Saw the Anglada Camarasa Exhibition”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

The Museo Carmen Thyssen had an exhibition of the Catalan artist Hermen Anglada Camaras, who lived between 1871 and 1959. He moved to Paris in 1894 and was an avant garde painter who delighted in painting women. His style was similar to that of Gustav Klimt. He is considered as one of the best Catalan artists and was a friend in Paris of Picasso. The exhibition shows many paintings of beautiful women, with plenty of color. This was a wonderful exhibition.

“Some fine pictures but most unknown Spanish artists”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

There were some excellent paintings but we liked the 3 done by an artist called Perrier best of all.
