What a terrific location !
Sadly the accommodation was basic and tired and so was the service.
We booked in for the special Valentines night dinner and had an OK but expensive set meal in a brightly lit dining room. No flowers , no colour , tiny table candles, and no romantic music until we were about to leave. I think they forgot to turn the sound system on.
The dining room staff were OK , but other staff seemed disinterested and not that helpful. Perhaps the financial troubles besetting this state owned chain is impacting the morale of staff.

We were very disappointed and glad to check out next day after one final look at the great view.

The location and view from the terrace was exceptional. Evening meal in restaurant was good but service was not very welcoming. Not sure where breakfast was served. No AC only very noisy central heating, therefore quite an uncomfortable night's sleep

Super location that gives magnificent views over the old city and port.
Breakfasts are plentiful and excellent quality; the coffee's good too. The room was very good, and the rooftop terrace a bonus. Good strengthwifi throughout. The dinner was slightly disappointing; an incorrectly translated English menu meant we ended up with a Dessert one of us couldn't eat due to allergy. We would have been better off with the Spanish menu.
Nice walk down into town.
All in all a great 3 night break - think 3 nights is max for Malaga!

Room Tip: 4th floor facing port

Rooms big and unpersonal. No tea or coffe in the rooms. Even not a possibilety to get it in the lobby. The view were mostly hidden behind trees. The breakfast were ok, but not a luxery, as the hotels says it is! No bacon or boiled eggs. Did not feel either comfortabel or welcomed here. We stayed 2 nights for shopping and sightseeing in Malaga, and also stayed at at a Parador in Nerja. Dissapointet over both hotels. No service, no charm and welcomming. Also had to carry our luggage ourselves, both in and out! We will never stay at a Parador again.
Pool area were not nice, small and not welcoming, and a long walk through "halls". The bed headbords were in metal, cold and noisy. Should have been in wood. When we, or other guests, used the toilet the water pipes were howling.
Not even close to luxery - only overpriced!

Room Tip: 3. floor for a view over the trees.

the hotel has a swimming pool with a sea view, very nice tho not very big. no service at the pool though so we needed to trek to bar. problem was that the public footpath is right beside the pool so constant streams of tourists hiking up the hill. the room was ok with a balcony but was honestly dull, for the cost we could have done much much better in the town. THE BEST PART of the hotel was the terrace overlooking the town and sea and this was obviously a prized location for the locals to go and have a cocktail, enjoying the sunsett. The staff were good enough but not friendly and welcoming. We ate in the bar at lunch which was very good and in the dining room at night ( no idea why) which was dire. Step back thirty years into a Fawlty Towers institution - felt like being in Bulgaria in the '60s - due to staff attitude, food quality and preparation and generally 'stuffy'. And it was very expensive compared to some of the wonderful restaurants we had enjoyed around Seville, Jerez and Cordoba (see review), so couldn't recommend it.

Room Tip: ask for higher floors for a view over the treetops to the town and sea

We stayed one night post cruise at the Gibralfaro. We loved the location on a hillside overlooking Malaga city.
The staff was very helpful and professional. The room we had was ocean view with a large terrace. the bathroom was very comfortable with very nice amenities.
The beds were very comfortable:-)
We ate lunch and dinner at the in the cafe on site and the selection and quality of food was excellent!!...
The only minus was the bad internet connection. Not a deal breaker.
The swimming pool was very inviting on the roof top.
We will for sure stay here again.
Note; it is a fair walk from the Malaga down town but a quick taxi ride.
When checking out the Parador already had our taxi waiting outside. 20 minutes to the airport.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 310. The room was at the far end of the Parador close to the Castle. It looked li...

The location is breathtaking, the rooms are spacious and quiet. Restaurant is average, seems like the same menu in all paradors in the area (Ronda, Ceuta). But it's worth it if only for the location! Not easy to get there without a car or by taxi, but once there, one can spend hours just watching the city from above.

Room Tip: A room with a view on the top floor
