“A lovely place to stay.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2014

The location of Hostal La Palma is excellent. We, a couple in our early 60s, explored Malaga on foot as everything is within easy reach of the hostal.

Our room was very clean and our bed comfortable. We were delighted (as English people) to be able to access a kettle, so we could make tea every morning. On our floor there was an alcove with kettle and a fridge, and it was good to be able to store milk and bottles of water. Upstairs there is a bigger kitchen area and a very pretty roof terrace. The hostel is part of a lovely old Spanish building and the windows and staircases are impressive. Everywhere including the shared bathroom was spotlessly clean. Towels were provided and as we were there four nights, these were changed. There was also plenty of hot water for showering. We had a double room with a sink in it and a television, and a small balcony.

Malaga is a delightful city but what made this place special was the extremely helpful owner, Caroline who did all she could to help us when we made a mistake with our car hire for later in the week. She let us use her private computer and when we decided we needed to go to the airport to sort out our problem she even took us to the nearby bus stop and told us which bus to use. We were extremely grateful. She spoke good English and although busy she found time to help us. That level of service - and kindness - is very rare. We would use this hostel again if we stayed in Malaga.

The one drawback was the noise at night, as it is in a city centre location....It's a lively city and the noise goes on for most of the night. The walls of the rooms are very thin too, so when we had noisy people in the room next to us on our last night it was a bit annoying. This could happen in an upmarket hotel though. We tired ourselves out with walking and sight-seeing during the day and had a drink in the evening so fell asleep anyway! Take ear-plugs if you think this might be a problem.

It was a good place to stay - basic but interesting and with character and extremely clean. Knowing there was an owner who was helpful and spoke several languages was a real bonus. It was our first hostelling experience and it proved to be a good choice.

The hostal is in the veri heart of Malaga. It is close to everthing. The room was small but clean. It has a small balcony with street view. But especially on saturaday night it was a little bit noisy. Hostal has a small roof terrace and also a kitchen which is quite nice if you are looking for a low budget holiday.

I stayed at this hostal with friends in October. It was perfect for our trip, lovely hostal, clean rooms and excellent location. We arrived late at night (a little difficult to locate reception on the 1st floor in the dark) but we were greeted by the lovely owner/manager who was very friendly and gave us a tour of the building and answered questions about where to go in the area in English as she soon realised how terrible my Spanish was. As well as the private rooms there is access to a kettle and drinks making facilities and a roof terrace to sunbathe or enjoy a glass of wine as the sun goes down over the city. The building was lovely and would suit friends, solo travellers, familes and couples. Even the cleaner was friendly-very rare in europe! Would definetely stay again when visiting Malaga.

Would have liked to rate this hostal a little higher considering the ideal location, the room and the (cheap and cheerful) cost. The lady who runs the place was also helpful and her Spanish was easy to understand though I believe she can also speak a reasonable level of English. The room was very spacious with a flat screen TV and the bed was comfortable. There was no air-conditioning but there was a fan which was sufficient though the room wasn't that hot anyway when I stayed. In the communal area just outside the room, there was access to a kettle and supplies of tea, coffee and sugar, as well as information on what to do in Málaga. In addition, on the 4th floor, you have a key to access a wider range of facilities in the kitchen and there is terrace as well. Location-wise, the hostal is situated on a side street off the main shopping street in Málaga and as such, it does generate a fair bit of noise at night. However, unless you're a particularly light sleeper, this shouldn't be too much of a problem. If you're going to return late, they close the main entrance at 11 o'clock at night so make sure you have your keys with you!

The owner was the nicest person I have ever met. Everything was provided, iron, hairdryer, fridge, coffee, tea and the best thing was the rooftop terrace with chill area!I our room we had a shower but some rooms had to use shared bathroom. It's literally in the centre, 10 min walk to malagueta the beach in malaga city.Transportation is very close either bur or train. No A/C in room only fan. A/C in corridor, starts running from 20.00 till 4.00 in the morning. This hostal def is for easy going and simple people.

Hostal La Palma is a great place from which to view the heart of historical Malaga. The lady who runs the hostal is a warm, friendly and interesting character. The hostal is clean and comfortable and perfect for a short stay in the beautiful city of Malaga. Tidy little rooms are complimented by a fully fitted kitchen and a fabulous sunny roof terrace for maximum relaxation. The hostal is just a short walk from the famous Malaga Cathedral and Picasso's birthplace. This hostal is in a great location and the room rates are very reasonable. Visitors will not be disappointed.
