Located at the base of the Alcabaza, we had a quick look and took a few photos. What remains of this ancient Roman Theatre is quite impressive and well worth a look.

You can see most of from the street. Only afterwards, we realised that admission for visitors is free (not advertised outside).

That said, I dare say, you have to pay to attend concerts and other events that are staged there occasionally.

My girlfriend and I love this place! It's free to get in & is a really good place to sit and relax and watch the city go about its business. Situated next to the castle, it's a stunning ruined amphitheatre that you are free to walk around or sit and relax to enjoy the sunshine. We sat here often during our stay and a couple of times had a picnic or a drink with us and just relaxed and took in the views. It's a really special place & I would definitely recommend it to anyone a) as an interesting historical building & b) as a place to relax, unwind, stop for lunch, grab a seat and a drink, read a newspaper or simple watch Málaga go about its business. 5 stars.

You do not need to pay to see the old ruins. Either you can stay on the street to take pictures; or if you wish to go onto the steps it's free as well - the entrance is right next to the entrance for the Alcazaba.

The Malaga's Roman theatre was discovered in the early 1950s, it is still in very good condition. it's been heavily restored in parts, so that it can be used on occasion for modern concerts, so, take note that what you see is not all authentic. The easiest way to tell is just to look at the stones. If their corners are sharply squared off, and their edges neatly straight, you can be pretty sure that they are modern replacements. There's a colour variation as well.
