Malaga is justifiably proud of this fine museum, after a hard fought public campaign to make the Aduana building the home of the fine arts and archaeological museums. The standard of the curation is world class, enabling visitors to understand the history of Malaga from the 19th century onwards through the paintings and biographies of the artists. The archaeological section has the edge over equivalent museums in other Andalusian provincial capitals, again due to the curation and storytelling. A place to visit and revisit.

Didn't really enjoy the art on the first floor. Not my sort of art. The archeaology exhibit on the second floor was very interesting though. Free entry and worth a look.

Only opened in December 2016, this has brought together two other museums and art galleries to creat an exciting place suitable for all ages. Everything detailed in Spanish and fully translated into English.

This newly opened museum was a joy. I am particularly interested in antiquities so we went straight to the archaeology section on the second floor. The layout of the exhibits is excellent and unlike many museums there is fully detailed information in English for each item/section.

The only downside, especially for my husband who has a back problem and walks with a stick, is that there are no seats at all, unless you perch for a few seconds on the custodians’ stools while they are on walkabout! For this reason we could not complete the visit, needing to cut short the time we would have spent on this floor, and did not visit the Fine Art floor at all. However we will certainly return the next time we visit Malaga, even if by then we will have to pay to get in, it will be worth it.

Best attraction in Malaga for us. Worth going for the fine art in itself. Free to pensioners of the European Community.
