“Terrific BUT....very isolated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2014

There is no doubt that this is a beautiful hotel with lovely staff ,but if you like a walk out in the afternoon or evening, it 's a choice of round the hotel or over the motorway flyover to Aldi. A taxi to the port will set you back 10 euros each way (unless you are too miserable to tip). There are a reasonable number of places to eat and drink around the harbour and from there you can also walk to the old town, where you will find a selection of traditional places in varied price ranges. So if you don't mind being in the same location all the time and love a really fantastic bathroom then don't hesitate to book this hotel. As a rough guide as to whether to go all inclusive, work out your gain based on cocktails 6 euros 50 or so, wine 4 euros, beer 4 euros 50.
The evening entertainment was varied and certainly went down well with all age groups (maybe not for late teens or 20s).
There were plenty of sunbeds and lots of evidence of cleaners and maintenance people to ensure that everywhere was spotless.
We always found something to eat even if we have experienced a lot better elsewhere. The waiters were lovely and we had a free visit to the spa which is be highly recommended (salt water though so don't get it in your mouth).
So really_believe the good reviews but DO consider the location.

We stayed for a week. Absolutely a lovey hotel with a great staff, very friendly and welcoming. Great food and services. A good choice for a family holiday.
We really didn't want to come back when our holiday finished.
Thanks to all the staff.
Certainly recommend it.

The reasons we chose to stay in this hotel were that is purports to be a 5 star hote, it was going to be quiet and that we could simply relax and not worry about spending anything as we could buy an all inclusive package. I believe that these reasons were fulfilled (although perhaps the hotel may have been more like 4 and a half stars).

The rooms are spacious and clean. Balconies are also large and are sea facing although you are unlikely to get much sun - not an issue for us. The staff are friendly. The reception people were always very helpful and patient. We even managed to arrange a tour to the Alhambra with the reception staff. I would also like to single out Carlos and Pedro for special thanks - they worked as evening waiters in the restaurant - always service with a smile.

Food was good because there were always choices to get freshly cooked fish and meats at lunch time and evening meals. I tended not to eat the hot buffet choices. Good supply of fresh fruit and salads. I did not have much in the way of desserts - they did not look interesting enough for me except for an almond cake - which appeared rarely but was very tasty.

Because our stay was longer than 4 days we also got a complementary ticket for the a la carte restaurant. We choice Asian cuisine night. For a hotel that had it all going, this was the biggest disappointment. It was truly awful - our local Chinese take away in London was a 100 times better. So, we left it and finished off our meal in the usual buffet restaurant - great as usual.

I often got up early and spent time reading in the adults only restaurant - very peaceful and had nearly everything that was offered in the main restaurant.

Evening entertainment was available but not really very good. Fortunately it is not too loud and I guess if you are in a group you can just treat it as background music. Its not something to look forward to. However, the hotel is located outside of Estepona so the benefit here is that the hotel is generally quiet. Just right for us. And Estepona is not too far away by taxi if you want something a little livelier.

Overall a good stay.

Just got back. Hotel is good, staff are very friendly. Rooms are spacious and clean. Evening entertainment not so good. Kids evening entertainment a bit annoying as it is directly under the bar area, so if you fancy a pre dinner drink it is spoilt by loud kiddy music. This hotel is no where near Estepona central and there is no way you can walk to the resort. The hotel is on a busy dual carriageway. There is a tiny prom about two hundred metres at the most. If you wanted to walk to the resort you would need to walk 5 kilometres and part of that would be on the edge of the motorway (no pathway)!! There are no bars or cafes anywhere near the hotel, again, you would need to go in to Esepona. A taxi will cost you 10 euros each way. There is an Aldi and a Mercadona across the road from the hotel which you will probably need to use as the hotel charge 3 euros for a small water and 4 euros for a small coke. The house wine is from 20 euros a bottle and is often served warm

We have enjoyed our short break at Gran Elba a big thank you to Pepa for looking after us breakfast was of a good standard lunch also although one of the days we ate the paella was very salty and we were disappointed , our room was spacious and the air con worked fine. The standard of service is good although the breakfast waiters are very eager to take your half empty plates from your table before you are finished a bit annoying at times.

Hotel is very clean, food excellent, location is away from Estepona.
Stayed in Junior Suite for a week, no aircon, staff tried numerous times to fix it, room was constantly at 24 degrees.
Pool choices are few, one main external pool and one small kids pool, one adult only up on rooftop.
Evening entertainment was average, drinks expensive.
Staff were generally helpful and smiley.
Generally hotel is pleasant, clean but lacks the quality to be rated 5 star.
Beach areas are clean but not sand but rough pebble into water, footwear is vital as it is very rocky underfoot.

We stayed at this lovely hotel in June for ten days. We received a warm welcome from reception on arrival and this continued throughout our stay. The standard of service is excellent.
We requested an adapted room with a walk in shower, The adapted rooms at this hotel only have baths, but they have a sturdy swivel chair which sits on the bath which is very safe and comfortable and works very well, and allows you to shower over the bath. We decided to have a none adapted room which has the bonus of a shower as well as a bath. The hotel went the extra mile and bought me a special chair to use in the shower, it would have been ideal had the shower had grab rails, but I felt safer using the swivel chair over the bath.
I found the hotel to be very accessible with plenty of lifts, and disabled toilets on every floor, no matter where we were be it the dinning room or round the pool there was always the offer of assistance from a member of staff.
We had a lovely relaxing holiday, thank you Gran Hotel Elba.
