We stayed for 5 nights in July in a two bed apartment. I must say the standard of the apartment was lovely. Everything was very new and the beds were extremely comfortable, great showers, excellent kitchen facilities even with a Nespresso coffee machine. A car is essential and the surrounding area is not the best so I'd suggest a short stay...two weeks would become dull. 3 lovely pools, and a new restaurant which wasn't bad at all. Trouble is, you do have to drive elsewhere when you get bored with that restaurant...the menu is fairly limited, so that wouldn't take long. You could cook for yourself of course....but I don't...I am on holiday after all!
Overall I would say this place is perfect for a short break, probably with young children, my teenage son was a little bored...most of the kids there were little ones.
I would go back though....very relaxing

We own a couple of weeks with the Marriott Vacation Club and managed to trade one of our weeks from our ‘home’ resort in Aruba to here. We have been visiting Marriott Resorts for four years now and have never been disappointed by the level of comfort or service that is provided. Playa Andaluza is no exception.

Other reviewers are correct in their observations in that it is fairly quite with little in the way of amenities \ restaurants to be found without having to drive somewhere. That said, now that the onsite restaurant is open this has made things easier for occupiers. There are also a couple of beach bars that serve excellent food until early evening. Given that the apartments are well stocked with facilities for ‘in house’ catering I think there is now a sufficient balance between what is available on the site (unless you wish to dine out every night?). I would strongly recommend though that one of your first tasks upon arrival is to visit the local supermarket to stock up rather than use the onsite Market Place as this can be expensive. (It is good for daily fresh bread and pastries though).

The beach was excellent and very quiet and you could always be guaranteed a sun bed regardless of what time of the day you turned up. There appeared to be lots of organised events for both kids and adults throughout the week and the spa provided a welcome treat (Ear Candling anyone?)

We visited the other Marriott resort in Marbella whilst we where there and found it to be much busier (and nosier) with a smaller beach front. Playa Andaluza would be our preferred resort to return to even though it is further from the Airport. A car is essential and there are plenty of day trips to go on. Either organised trips from the resort or under your own steam in the car. Jerez, where the Sherry comes from and Ronda are both great days out, as are Cadiz, and Estepona. Seville is only a couple of hours drive away also.

There is further construction planned on one side of the resort but this should not put you off of visiting if you prefer a more isolated type of resort with a quiet beach with plenty for the kids to be entrained with.

My husband and I returned last week from Marriott's Playa Andaluza. We were there from July 13-19. The resort is very nice with large spacious apartments. We had a two bedroom-two bath that was very nice. The restaurant is open (has been open for over a month) and the food is good although pricey. A hamburger with fries is 14.90 euros. They do offer a nice buffet for 16 euros. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We only had lunch since there are so many nice restaurants in the area. Yes, you do need a car but it wouldn't make much sense not to have a car in that area. Malaga airport is one hour away. The underground garage is very narrow (you have to park at an angle) and there are big columns that make it difficult to maneuver. The washer/dryer and very confusing and it takes 2 hours to wash a load of cotton clothes. That was my only complaint. The service was excellent. There is small market at the resort (prices higher than super Market) which has the best croissants, pastries, and bread. There are three pools and lots of things to do for children. I highly recommend Marriott's Playa Andaluza.

  • Liked — The facilities.
  • Disliked — The washer and dryer and fact they charge 5% to exchange an euro traveler's check to cash. The traveler's check was in euros not dollars.

Property was still under construction and garage parking was unavailable. The swimming pool and the beach were available to use, but the restaurant hadn't opened.

It is necessary to drive to find restaurants or stores.

The units offer a lot of privacy and all have view balconies.

There is little true Spanish flavor on the Costa del Sol; fish 'n chips and beer are more likely to be available than paella and wine. There is a large British expat population. Too much of the coast is over built with high rise apartments and hotels blocking views and the breezes. However, driving into the mountains, one can still find the "little white towns" that have some flavor of yesterday.

  • Liked — Luxurious and clean.
  • Disliked — A lack of infrastructure: restaurants and shopping.

We stayed in a 2 bed apartment from 6-10 May as part of a preview deal with Marriott. We had to go to a preview presentation as part of the deal but there was no pressure to buy. The Marriott Vacation Club is not for us at the present time but we can see the benefits as the quality is right.
The apartment had everything we needed (washer/dryer/dishwasher/oven/microwave/dvd player/stereo/tvs in bedrooms and the living room etc) and was extremely spacious and clean. The maid came in daily to change towels and stacked any crockery in the dishwasher. I asked for a bathrobe from reception and sat on the balcony listening out for a knock on the door but neednt have as the apartments have door bells which we hadnt noticed! There was only the 2 of us and we wished we had taken friends as the 2nd bedroom was wasted.
Yes there is building work ongoing but we were aware of this before we went from the Marriott website and correspondence we had received from them. Our apartment overlooked one of the pools and the kiddies pool and was across from a new apartment block where work was being done, there was some building noise but not much at all and it did not bother us. The restaurant was not open but again we knew this before we went, they were making final preparations and it may be open now.
There are local pubs and restaurants within walking/driving distance which we did go to but we mainly chilled out in the resort and on our balcony.
There is a grocery shop on site which is sursprisingly not expensive as we expected and we bought some items and also went to a local supermarket nearby.
The concierge desk can arrange day trips and the prices were reasonable and the information pack in the room gave local information and had menus of local restaraunts that delivered to the resort.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and wish we had stayed longer and would love to visit the resort again in the future.

This was such a huge disappointment for my family and I becouse on paper this resort has an awful lot of positives. The staff and quality of accommodation were most acceptable but why on earth did Marriott not tell us about the substantial build works and lack of restuarant until 10 days before we left UK?
We are not talking of the odd bathroom being retiled but a complete apartment block being constructed right next to the kiddies pool.So much for a relaxing holiday lazing around the pool.
we would have considered returning when finished...... but it is a competative world out there and the treatment we received from Marriott whilst there and since we returned to UK has not been encouraging.

My family and I (2 adults, 2 kids ages 14 and 10) spent the first 3 nights of our Spanish vacation at this property. Fistly, I believe a car is a must to get around in Estapona and Marbella. As mentioned by other reviewers, the entrance to the hotel is off the eastbound lane of a highway. The property itself is tranquil and very well-maintained. All the people working there, from the front desk staff to the gift shop staff, were extremely friendly and accomodating. We were offered a time-share tour but declined. The room, # 2007, was close to the pools and beach. We were able to park our car almost immediately underneath our ground-floor room. The room itself was spectacular, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, and laundry room. The beds were comfortable. The master bathroom had a 2-person tub and a separate 2-person shower with 2 shower heads. Although breakfast was not included a continental breakfast was available for 7 euros. However, we bought loaf after loaf of the delicious bread baked right in the hotel and ate it in our room with the hotel-bought butter and jam. My kids have travelled alot but maintain that this was their favorite hotel room ever! The indoor pool was warm and surrounded by 5 (yes 5) hottubs.

The beach was not the best we've seen but, in April, it was good for playing catch or collecting shells. The location of the hotel was great for the spectacular mountain drive to Ronda (highly recommended) and to Gibraltar (kids love the Barbary apes). We also did the 10 minute drive into the adjacent town of San Pedro Alcantara (with thanks to my Garmin GPS), where we had a terrific dinner at the small but friendly Alcantara Restaurante.

In summary, this hotel is notable for its accomodations and staff rather than for what is available in the immediate area. However, with a car one can visit sophisticated Marbella, ancient Ronda, and famous Gibraltar easily.
