“What a place!!!”

Excellent luxury resort. Travel agent got us a great October deal. Still warm enough to enjoy the many pools and the Med. Spa is out of this world. The breakfast is fit for a king. We were the only Americans, the place was crawling with Btits and Germans so lots of new people to meet . All the families with children had nannies so everyone got to relax including the families without children....

We recently stayed here for 5 nights. We wanted a chill out break and see the sun! Not disappointed! Aside from the gorgeous weather the staff were mostly helpful and knowledgable. The food was very nice, the flamenco night particularly was very entertaining. Poolside facilities were as you'd expect from a 5* My 4 year old joined in a few of the kids club activities supervised by us and they seemed well run, excellent English and understanding and all the children seemed to have fun doing various activities. Everything is well maintained, cleaned and well thought out. We had a sea view room which was stunning. Postcard type views! Yes it is expensive but we spent a couple of nights in Estepona - about 10 euros away (10min taxi ride, taxi rank at the hotel) and to be honest, it's expensive as it's select and that itself meant for a peaceful break for us. The spa is beautiful and a real treat!

There are some stunning views across to Africa and Gibraltar from the beach but note the beach is very coarse sand mixed with mostly pebbles and rocks and broken shell. It's not sandcastle building sand, is very rough and can cut feet and gets exceedingly hot. If you have children who love the sand or are a beach bunny you may be disappointed. However, the hotel have built platforms with loungers and day beds just off the sand so you do get a feeling of being 'on the beach.'

Only 3 points as a slight negative - no childrens pool or even area where young children can stand up in other than the steps leading in to the water. Odd given the multiple pools and the fact they have a kids club! Also we booked the hotel car to take us back to airport as we wanted peace and easy journey. 'Antonio' was on his phone talking and texting throughout the entire trip to Gibraltar and then unhelpfully left us at the border (I know they cannot cross the border but he could have parked up and taken our cases to the airport as was the case when we arrived and were picked up by the hotel) This matter we are taking up with the hotel but no outcome yet. Given the price compared to a 'taxi' it's not an acceptable service level. Lastly 'Nicholas' on Reception did not want to accept from my husband that our door had a faulty lock quote "I'm sorry, you are wrong. This is not possible" Errr not the greatest customer service attitude to have!

Unrelated to the hotel - a word of caution if choosing to come here from Gibraltar airport. The current politics are making border crossings a nightmare. It was easy getting in but getting back across the border takes TIME to walk through as all passports are checked etc. If you have a car to return to car hire across the border BEWARE the time for crossing the border is around 3/4 hours every day. We saw some very irate holidaymakers stuck in a car queue! If getting a taxi they cannot cross the border so will drop you - not a suitable thing for those with small babies/children or the elderly or those with mobile issues as the roads are very busy and dangerous, signage is bad and there is a lot of getting on and off kerbs to narrow pavements - not buggy/wheelchair/suitcase friendly!

Room Tip: Floor 6, sea view rooms are central and have the best panoramic view

If you want to be pampered and are prepared to pay top prices then this Hotel is an excellent choice.
However when you go make sure there are no major functions in as then standards of service drop.

If you want to stay in a great 5* hotel on the south coast of Spain, look no further than the Kempinski Hotel Bahia. The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained, the staff could not be more more helpful. Our only disappointment was we'd booked a balcony room and there is little point as all balconies are enclosed and get no direct sun light, view was great though over the pools and out into the sea. It's a standalone hotel, some distance away from Estepona (approx 10 euros in a taxi), but if you just want to chill out, swim, eat great food - you won't be disappointed.

In my opinion one of the best hotels in the area by far, the staff go out of their way to get it right and can not do enough for you. Rooms are great and soundproofed so a good night´s sleep was had with no noise from the corridor. Location and beach not so great but if you need to stay in this area then this is the place to go! Huge buffet selection at breakfast, everything you could possibly imagine is available.

Everything was 5 star except the rock hard beds. The fundamentals of a hotel include a comfy bed as priority. These beds are like stone. This would definately stop me from returning!

Dear Guests,
Thank you for your positive comments on your recent stay at Kempinski Hotel Bahía. I cannot share you comment though on the "rock-hard beds", as all beds were changed recently when we underwent our room-refurbishment, and we usually receive excellent comments from our guests.
I strongly agree with you that the comfort of a bed is the most important of a guest room, and that's why we buy best quality mattress only.
I hope to be given the pleasure of welcoming you again to our resort and please, when making your reservation or you are in house, refer to the soft bed-covers, which we possess and can be slipped over your mattress. That shouldn't be a reason not to return!
With kind regards,
Rüdiger C. Hollweg

As soon as we arrived the receptionist greeted us with a smile and offered to keep the restaurant open as we were late. Rooms have lovely touches such as underfloor heating. Kids club run by Pepe was brilliant. First holiday I actually rested, my son, 11 was entertained the whole time. Cops n robbers, water polo, archery, football. I felt left out so I even joined in. Breakfast buffet was faultless. Rest of the food and drinks a bit on the toppy side such as the buffet at 60€ each or €79 with drink was way over the top, maybe it was the reason the restaurants were always empty. €20 for a sandwich and a drink at the pool bar. Dont get me wrong here I enjoy fine wine and pay a good price for value but €6.50 for an orange juice by the pool just gets me angry. I shouldnt moan really as one is paying for the ambiance: the grounds were wonderful, beautiful acres of sloping lawns, always plenty of beds and tales available. The beach was a bit naf though, too many stones- as they call themselves a beach hotel you would have thought they would sort it out! The guy offering the jet ski at €50 for 15 minutes wasn't getting much business. ( probably 1 customer per day) should also think about lowering his prices to drum up the business- no idea! At those prices it was cheaper to buy one for the week! In the hotel the staff were very helpful and always smiling, great hospitality. I moaned about the wifi not being free and got it free in the end somehow. We have to keep on at this penny pinching and they will relent in the end. The rooms were very comfortable and for a change the walls were not made of paper which is the norm in spanish built hotels. We literally couldnt hear a thing, marvellous. Overall a great stay was tops and would return either as a couple or a family. You need a car or expect lots of cab fares to travel to Estepona and Puerto Banus etc. Keep up the good work Kempinski.

Dear Guests,
Thank you for your detailed comments on your recent stay at Kempinski Hotel Bahía and for your general positive feedback, which is much appreciated.
I just want to clear a few points, which I feel should be clarified:
The beaches around Marbella are certainly not the sandiest beaches, but are cleaned by the city regularly and are clean. The beach is rated a "Blue Flag", the best quality of water and beach on the entire coast (Rio Padron). As the beaches, even though in front of our hotel and not interrupted by a promenade, are public and belong to the city of Estepona, and are maintained and supervised by the Coastal Department in Malaga. We are not allowed to touch.
The Watersports department just began and settled when you were here most probably. Now it is very busy and we believe the prices are quite reasonable: its all new equipment, the jet-skis are new eco equipment, with noise reduction and is quite powerful. Great fun for all watersports friends The watersports department also insures itself and if an accident may occur, they are insured.
Iit is not necessary tomake deals with the staff in order to get wifi for free. Internet access is free for all guests, and for all GHA member guests, the high speed internet access is also free.
My team and I look forward to welcoming you again to Kempinski Hotel Bahía.
with kind regards,
