“A great week away”
Reviewed May 21, 2013 via mobile

On paper, this should have been a disaster. Difficult to find, isolated, no lifts, lots of stairs. In reality, even with a 2 year old, it was great. Spacious , well equipped apartment. Nice heated pool, Fantastic views, Friendly staff. On site bar and restaurant were well priced if a little unadventurous food wise. We were in a large family group and the fact that it was quiet helped as the kids had the pool to themselves.

Staff could not have been more friendly at this place and as helpful as they could be. I found the rooms to be a bit scruffy and smelly (in need of a good airing). They certainly need to have a word with their cleaners who I suspect do a decent job but haven't time to do a good job. The on site restaurant is reasonably priced although I thought the food was nothing special but again staff very friendly and will try and accommodate whatever you want.
A very windy (at times) location and there are lots of stairs and its on a hill. (and no lifts). We walkde to the nearest beach which took about 45 mins (all downhill) and it was about 4km away. We got a taxi back as we had a load of shopping from the supermarket.
There is a small supermarket next to the resort but the staff in there are not very friendly and don't speak English (or pretended they didn't)
I would go again but only if I could get a really cheap deal here - I wouldn't be paying full prce to stay here - not when you could get other places for better value.
We didn't have a car and it really was essential for this place unless you like walking. If I go again I'll probably hire a pedal bike and use that. Its all downhill to Estepona but most of the route is flat - the only hilly bit is at the last stage as you climb up to Forest Hills (for about half a mile) and even then its not THAT bad.
The staff booked us a taxi at a good rate to get us back to Malaga airport (85 euros) but if you really want to do this on a budget then you can get a direct bus from Malaga airport to Estepona and get a taxi from there at a cost of 11 euros (Estepona to Forest Hills). Its a non stop bus and will take one hour.
No air conditioning in the rooms. We did have ants in some of the rooms (not loads but some).
Its in a residential area and lots of people have dogs - as a consequence of this I did here quite bit of barking going on but I can't say it bothered me too much.
Free wifi in the recepetion area and the pool area.
A games room, a small gym, a steam room and a heated swimming pool - none of which we tried out. A reasonable selection of books to read next to reception (I read 10 in 7 days - probably a record for me). There is entertainment on at night in the bar/pool area but we didn't bother with that so can't comment on how good/bad it was.
If you want relaxation and to be left alone - this is the place for you though.
Our apartment was a 2 bedroom sleeps 6 and was on two levels with an outside patio upstairs and downstairs and two bathrooms.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor and had to climb 48 steps to our room. Ask for a lower floor if thats too m...

Enjoyed a very comfortable week at Forest Hills in January 2013. Fabulous views from our very large terrace across the Med towards Africa. Our accommodation was surprisingly well equipped for self catering; kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living area, all good, although the furniture is just too big for the space available (small point, but I don't know where you would put the rest of it if you had to open the sofa bed). We made use of the swimming pool which was empty most of the time we were there - the complex itself was very quiet. The bar and restaurant stayed open even though they had very few customers. Good and free wi-fi, in communal areas only. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. If you want a resort style apartment near Estepona, then this is it.

I have to say the reception staff and the bar staff couldnt do enough to help but the location is terrible! around 15mins by car to Estepona or around 1.5 hours walk.
The food at the bar is of good standard and the guys there cant seem to do enough to make your stay good, the rooms are lovely with lounge area fully fitted kitchen and good size bedroom. Toilet and shower modern with everything you need including dish washer tablets, washing up liquid even a carton of milk on arrival.
But there is some bad points: The pool is very small and everwhere is via steps and lots of them. there is no airconditioning in the rooms apart from a portable cooler that has to be filled with water at least twice a day! this however does nothing and sleep is broken so much that it becomes a hastle going to sleep. the prices at the hotel are not that good either eg 4.50 for a wine compared with 1.80 local also there is no shop on site so make sure you stock up. Hope you found this usefull as try to be as honest as i can. would not recomend you bring the kids as they would be so bored so quick unless you go out every day. any questions please email me heathykitt@yahoo.com by the way the best entertainment was Gary who plays the guitar and works behind the bar, otherwise was done on a tight budget eg bingo night , quiz night so dont expect 2 much.

Room Tip: 215 was a great room facing the sea

Just returned from a short 'in need of sunshine' break.
Seasons members but had never fancied Forest Hills before - don't know why - but we loved the place.
As everyone says, the access road is awful but we live on Exmoor so are used to tiny hilly lanes. Don't let it put you off. Reception was very welcoming and helpful.
We were in 109 which is single level so the bathroom is accessed without going through the bedroom - useful if you are with another couple. We regarded the dozens of steps to get there as a daily workout!
Pool area was beautifully kept. Bar and restaurant friendly and nice food. The bar was open until late so that if you's been out to eat you could return for a few drinks.
Not 5* when compared to a Marriott but very well equipped and furnished.
Nearest beach is Laguna Beach (free parking) which is just down the road and easily accessed without going on any main roads. Classy beach side restaurant.
This is self catering so I wouldn't expect the bins emptied - I think I can manage that!
Overall we had a really relaxing few days and will certainly be back - hopefully later this year - for out of season breaks.

Just come back from Forest Hills Las Altas reosrt it is a very lovely place but a bit of a chore to get there. Once you find the turn off on the Estepona approch you need to keep you wits about you it can be tricky. Then you have the hill to the place to combat and the speed bumps. The resort itself is very nice but you can feel isolated as people do need come together very often. There is a restaurant on site which is a franchise and can be a little on the expensive side and quite limited, but what we did have was very good.
The reception staff would go out of their way to help with anything you needed.
Overall we had a great week there and would go back but be a bit more organised we really enjoyed ourselves.

Room Tip: If you carn't manage steps ask for a lower room, but a higher room gives you a gear view of the...

We took a last minute Christmas break, small budget therefore used our Season's week. Was told would be fairly quiet and indeed it was ...... so much so that I thought my two teenage children would hate it, however we had a fab week. This was undoubtably helped by the unexpectedly warm weather, sunbathed on our large terrace with stunning views and swam in the well maintained pool.

Many of the comments made in other reviews are correct, car a must, poor road, loads of stairs, unmanned reception etc. but for us they were not an issue, some people feel compelled to find negatives! The flats are spacious, clean and well equipped. Although guest numbers were low entertainment and classes were still available. Mecca for golfers, husband & son played different course each day. Daughter and myself enjoyed some pampering in the small but charming onsite salon at sensible pricing. Great tennis facilities just 10 min. walk down the hill, you can hire rackets.

Sam & his wife Cat run the franchised restaurant & bar. We ate there several times, hearty & well presented food served in poolside restaurant. We were unsure where to eat Christmas lunch but decided to stay put rather than drive. This is a very late but sincere "thank you" to Sam & Cat for putting on a remarkable spread. About 16 guests sat down at a beautifully set table and enjoyed every Christmas treat you could imagine. Food & wine 100% could not be better, we played old fashioned party games and just had fun. They bent over backwards to make it a special occasion and succeeded!

Reviews are dependent on so many variables, for us this was a cheap, enjoyable break therefore rating excellent.
