“Tapas meets fine dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012 via mobile

This lovely Tapas bar was reccomended as one of the best in Spain. I am not well acquainted enough with Spain to make such a sweeping statement but it is very good . During a week of very bad weather it was hard to judge its true ambiance hence the lower score . The food was simple but each Tapas we tried had a creative twist that encouraged sampling of the whole menu just to see how even less favoured things had been improved by a clever chef. Everything we tried was fabulous.

“Tapas with a difference”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2011

We enjoyed two evenings with different tapas each time and every one was good. Not your standard stuff but with a contemporary twist.. The Andalusion tomato and bread cold soup was fantastic and the cured salted tuna with cheese in green mustard and onion was really tasty. Some good wines on the list as well - in particular the white Rioja, Arus viura. All wines come by the glass or bottle.
The cafe serves tapas, 1/2 racions or racion on most of their offerings as well as a tourist menu with wine

“Great tapas with a contemporary twist”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2011

My girlfriend and I were very fortunate to have stumbled across El Bocoy (cafe / restaurant / tapas bar), in a small side-street just off the top of the Calle Luna pedestrianised zone in El Puerto de Santa Maria.

The restaurant is actually part of the Casa de los Leones tourist apartment building - separately listed in the accommodation section on TA - but is accessable directly from Calle Placilla.

We were looking for an establishment that served something different to standard tapas. The menu board on the pavement outside suggested that El Bocoy might fit the bill, and it really did.

Every dish we tried was either something new (to me at least) or was executed with a contemporary riff. I tried salt cured tuna (mojama) skewers, tuna pate and papas alinas; all superb.

I’d recommend El Bocoy to anyone without hesitation.
