Senator Cadiz Spa Hotel
Ranked #9 of 28 Hotels in Cadiz
Reviewed December 11, 2011

Wanted a hotel in the old town of Cadiz and decided on the Hotel Spa Senator. We arrived by train and actually walked from the station to the hotel, which really isn't that far. We did this after reading that the hotel was hard to find by car.
The hotel is indeed in a narrow street but do not be fooled once inside the hotel opens into a large airy patio.
The rooms are large and very well equiped. The beds were a bit on the hard side, but that is down to personal preference so would not mark that as a critisism
From the hotel you are straight onto the old town of Cadiz. The streets are lively and full of shops, cafes and resturants. The only slight down side to Cadiz is that it is the home of Tapas and most of the menus are just that, Tapas.
We didn't use the spa facillities of the hotel, only being in Cadiz for 2 days so cannot comment on them, but the hotel was everything we wanted. It was clean, comfortable and ideally positioned to visit the sights of the old town.
Good value for money in a hotel, which after all is a city centre facillity.

The hotel is in a very good location and the lobby/atrium is certainly very nice indeed. The bedroom was rather gloomy and dark (the deep peach paint probably doesn't help). It also had a smell of smoke although we were assured that our floor was entirely non-smoking. It otherwise appeared clean. The staff were generally friendly.

Breakfast would have been very expensive so we chose not to have it there.

I can't comment on the Spa as the facilities were closed during our stay as was the pool on the 6th floor. The cost of using the pool in the basement was excessive so we didn't use that either.

Overall it would have been ok if it cost less and was rated 1-2-star but it is not what I would expect from a 4-start hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Spa Senator Cadiz for four nights at the end of August. The hotel is located on a narrow street in the old city and can be difficult to locate especially as there is no sign indicating the street. We took the Renfe train to Cadiz and took a cab to the hotel, although, afterwards we learned it was not a long walk at all from the train station. In fact, the Hotel Spa Senator Cadiz is an easy walk to almost everything in Cadiz. We did take a bus to the Playa Victoria, one of the nicer beaches, but probably could have walked there as well.
Check-in was fine. Staff at the hotel all speak English and are pleasant and accommodating. We had a family room for the three of us. The room was spacious and consisted of basically two beds pushed together. The bathroom was also quite spacious. What really would bring the Senator up a notch would be if they updated their room decor. Room decor and furniture look tired and dated and just addressing this would make it feel like a more luxurious hotel. Perhaps just even nicer bedding would help - get rid of the bedspread and provide a nice duvet. The hotel did, however, have a lovely lobby with a nice central courtyard.
The hotel has a small rooftop pool which we did not use. When I dunked my foot in, it felt quite cold so that was a turnoff for me. We also did not use the spa, although I was tempted to do so. There was no discount offered for hotel guests which I thought was unusual, although they were offering some kind of paella and spa special, but I really think they could have done better than that for hotel guests. My biggest complaint was the noise level. We were on the second floor facing the street in the front of the hotel. For a narrow street, it was quite busy and you could hear cars and scooters whizzing by all the time. One of the tripadvisor reviews I read said her room was really quiet, well maybe that was in the tower in the back of the hotel, but it certainly wasn't the case in our room. In addition, this hotel, like all others that we stayed in during our trip to Spain, did not have an iron, ironing board or a clock radio. It did have free wi-fi which worked well. All in all, it's a nice hotel with lovely staff, although, for the price, a little bit more luxury or perks would have been nice.

Room Tip: Make sure you do not get a room in the front of the hotel facing the street.

Dear Guests,

I would like to thank you for your comments, as it is through them the best way we can improve the quality of our service.

We are very happy that you choose our hotel to spend yours holidays in the city; you have to know that every member of the staff thinks that our main aim is that you feel comfortable during your stay in our hotel and city. We try to give you the best service.

Regarding the location of the hotel, we are located in the old town so the hotel is surrounded by narrow and lovely streets. For this reason, all our guests enjoy the city and its charming places in a short walking distance.

On the one hand, the hotel facilities are designed for the comfort of our guests and we put at your disposal on request everything that you can need. On the other hand, you can get in your room facilities like the courtesy tray or minibar. We have an iron at your disposal and wake-up call if you put in contact with Reception.

We are sorry if we didn´t give you information about the special discount of 15% in our Spa but it is affiched in several places from the entrance. We always try to offer our guest our best conditions and, of course, there is a reduction for been lodged at the Hotel

We will have very much in mind your impressions and we will work to improve these points marked so that in the next visit your perception of the product received is entirely satisfactory.

Yours sincerely,

Alvaro Gutierrez

We stayed at this hotel for one night. We were on a six week tour of Spain by train and the following day we were to move north to Madrid and then the ferry. So, in a sense, it was the end of our holiday and we looked for something special. We were not disappointed.

We were returning to Cadiz having visited Donana National Park. Our previous hotel stay in Cadiz had been an expensive disaster at a small hotel near to the Senator.

The Senator could not have been a greater contrast. We had an enormous room with two double beds and a beautiful bathroom. It was all tastefully decorated and well maintained.

The public areas were very attractive and the hotel has both a swimming pool and a spa. Our room rate (which was lower than at the earlier Cadiz hotel) included free use of the spa.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. In particular Alberto in reception took great care with our booking before we left Cadiz for Donana and with our check-in when we returned to Cadiz.

Our only regret: we did not cut our losses and check out of the earlier poor Cadiz hotel and move to the Senator during our first stay in Cadiz.

Room Tip: It may be better to go for a room around the courtyard (no more than two floors) rather than stay in...

We are very happy that you enjoyed with our services and facilities; you have to know that every member of the staff thinks that our main aim is that you feel comfortable during your stay in our hotel and city. We try to give you the best service.

All the staff tries to offer different options when you arrive to the city like Tavira tower, touristic attraction, restaurant… It is very nice to hear that the staff was helpful and friendly doing your stay better.

Regarding the kind of room, you can find the same room around the courtyard than in the another building but we are happy about your comment.

We expect if you decide to come back again, which we would very much appreciate, please let us know beforehand so that all our organization can be at your service

This is an expensive dump of a hotel. It is a more of a back packer style pension, it is NOT a 4 star Hotel. It was the worst hotel I have had the misfortune of staying in a long time and I would advise strongly against staying here.

Dear Guests,

I would like to thank you for your comments. Unluckily your comment is very general and do not allow us to improve any feature. We are very sorry about your opinion about our hotel which is built over an ancient building from the 19th Century giving to it the style of a typical Andalusian patio which is witness of our history.

Our entire staff tried to fulfill all your requests during your stay with special attention and care in your language and we offered during the summer season access to the swimming pool on the roof of the building with great views of the city and the Spa was as well at your service. We think a pension will not offer this.

We will have very much in mind your impressions and we will work to improve these points marked so that in the next visit your perception of the product received is entirely satisfactory.

We stayed one night at the Senator and we chose this hotel due to its location and the fact it had parking. The hotel is basically in the city and perfectly located. The rooms are comfortable however the hotel overall is tired and needs an upgrade. The parking is hard to get into, you need a small car since the entrance is in a small allyway and you need to turn into the car park entrance onto an elevator which takes the car down. Once your down the car space is spacious.

Overall if your lookinjg for a good location and short term stay this hotel is fine for value.

Dear Guests,

I would like to thank you for your comments, as it is through them the best way we can improve the quality of our service, understanding the perception of our product and most important the quality and friendly service we provide.

We kindly thank you your opinion about some good points as the situation or the parking; As you say, Senator Cádiz Spa Hotel is located in the heart of Cadiz and it is appreciated for the guest, you can visit the city perfectly in a short walking distance. Although you have to note the city has Narrows Streets and there is no so much space to get the entrance to our garaje. Our staff always helps you with it.

We once again thank you and are looking forward welcoming you to any of our establishments
