“5 star prices 2 star service.”

Agree with Fidelma 's review.Rooms very nice. Loved the lighting system and the open plan bathroom, although maybe not everyone will like.Bathroom could have been cleaner hairs in shower and door runners on floor.

Check in with a young lady was efficient and pleasant. gentleman on reception is in the wrong job. What an inconvenience guests are to him. Upon check out never asked if we enjoyed the stay. Never said thank you upon payment. Just handed the receipt and said this is yours . No concierge and when I asked him a question during our stay answer no. Good job we had wifi and I got the answer to our question . Wifi could be improved as a bit slow. Whilst in the room phoned reception twice never any answer.

Had a treatment in the spa it was great. Really recommend the spa. Staff also very friendly.

Breakfast is very good a large selection. I had scrambled eggs made for me. Staff pleasant in dinning room.

This hotel could be fantastic but customer service training is needed for some members of staff. I would recommend hotel to friends but don't expect even 4star service which the hotel is classed as.

Location is in old town all the way out on the tip. Quiet, and with good view of the sea. If you stay there and work out of town it is a very long way all across Cadiz to get there. Parking space in the basement is good.
The rooms are narrow and interior is very impractical. The bathtub is like a box with sharp edges and not comfortable at all. Basin is very small and water all over if you try to wash your face in the morning. What have they been thinking? Electrical sockets on the floor to stumble in. Ridiculous!
You might think you have privacy, but your neighbour suddenly is looking right at you from the balcony. Restaurant doesn't open before 7.30 so if you are early bird you wont have breakfast before you go to work. Room service menu is very limited.
Mostly old couples stay there.

Room Tip: Rooms with even numbers have sun on the balcony in the evening.

Both the rooms and the public areas of this parador really do impress. The large rooms are full of 'toys' in the way of lighting,TV, blinds etc, however there is no guide to using any of them, let alone getting the best from them - which is a real shame.

I loved the way the bathroom is integrated into the main room with glass partitions & its separate bath & shower, but it might not be to everyone's taste. If 'modern' is not your taste, then this won't suit.

From the balcony you get fantastic views, no matter which way your room faces. Sadly for us, the weather furnished us with clouds, limiting just how spectacular it must be at other times. Nonetheless it was still impressive. You can end up peering into your neighbours room if you aren't careful, but the views across the bay are likely to be more enticing.

The breakfast spread seems to go on for ever and is served until around 11, providing a great chance to 'brunch'. You can also take breakfast in your room at no extra charge, which is a nice option.

Be warned that it is difficult to park in that part of Cadiz, even in February, so if travelling by car don't forget to factor in the 15 euro car park charge. There are a couple of other car parks near by, but they charge around the same.

Really sad to say the service levels from staff don't match this impressive building, nor the star rating the hotel has. All the staff we met seemed disinterested in us at best and inconvenienced by us at worst. No kind of welcome on arrival and only scant info offered on check-in- no wifi code, no info about breakfast or pool hours etc. This was in stark contrast to the super professional service we had received from everyone at the hotel we had come from a few kilometers away, The Gran Conil in Conil.

5 star price and building, but 2 star service - a real shame.

When I wrote in 2007 that "recarpeting the corridors and some refurbishment are becoming priorities" I hardly expected them to knock the place down and start again! We spent a couple of nights here to see what the new building had to offer - and because we will take any excuse to have a trip to Cadiz.
The location, of course, remains unchanged, with the delightful Parque Genoves next door for a restful stroll at any time of day, and beyond it, the sea just over the ramparts. There can also scarcely be another hotel which is so convenient for exploring the narrow streets of the old town.
The new hotel certainly doesn't skimp on the "wow" factor - both as you first walk through the front door, and again when you reach your room and (once you have worked out how to do it) you raise the blind to panaromic views, both of the Parque Genoves and the bay. If you look straight ahead that is. Look to the side and you get a panorama of your neighbours, and they of you.
The architecture of the Parador is quite breath-taking (or will be when they lose the rusty metal adorning some of the walls). The design of the rooms makes best use of space, if somewhat idiosyncratically, in 21st century fashion. The glass used may not be adequately opaque for the body conscious, at least in the bath.
However, the building is just the stage on which are acted out the changing scenes of hospitality, given and received. And when you go to the theatre, however staggering the backdrop, it is the action which makes the play.
Why does the first scene - check-in - drag? Why did we both have to sign pieces of paper which just seemed to confirm what was on our passports? Other hotels carry out the process with greater speed and warmth of welcome.
Why no offer to show you to your room? This is a hotel where finding the light switch (let alone the one for the foscurit - see below) is a challenge, and it was only as we were leaving that we spotted the two power sockets in the end of the mirror above the left-hand wash basin. For once, an introduction to the technoloogy would have been appreciated.
A visit to the snack bar was always a leisurely process in the Parador version 2. It has not speeded up in version 3. The restaurant, however, was excellent, with fine food courteously served in a timely fashion. Breakfast - a great treat in version 2 - seems to have been scaled back in version 3, but was still perfectly adequate, if a little unexciting.
Ultimately, the true test of any hotel is comfort - do you stop, switch off, and relax? It probably took us until just before we left to begin to feel comfortable. That's something you should feel as you walk through the door. And this state of the art hotel run by an organisation against which Spanish hospitality is measured should be able to come up with less amusing translations of its notices - or perhaps just not bother? (See pictures)
I am a great fan of paradors, and have many more I want to visit. The previous parador on this site was one to which we would unhesitatingly return. I'm not so sure about its successor. But do go to this hotel for the architecture, the sea, the Park, the beach round the corner, and the ability to walk across the road and lose yourself in the historic delight that is the old heart of Cadiz.

This is a brand new Parador. Modent design with the foyer resembling a gallery for mdoern art. the staff are very helpful, there is underground parking onsite (15 Euro per night). Rooms are bright with fantastic on suites. The huge bath takes getting used to and is, quite honestly, uncomfortable. The shower is great though. The Torra Tavira is a short walk a way and the botanical gardens next door. The spa is fantastic with a good range of treatments.

Breakfast was also good but it can be difficult to find a table at peak times

The bar is a disaster, resembling a cafe in Departures at an underused small airport. It even has the same ambiance. Didn't try the restaurant as it looked somewhat sterile and there are superb restaurants nearby. To be fair, apparently the food at the old Parador was excellent however,

Enjoyed our stay very much. Beautiful modern decorated rooms with amazing balconies with good views. Wanted a room with a sunny balcony, this was not the case but very helpful staff moved us to another room next morning when one became available. It was a winter visit so pool facilities etc. but a superb breakfast was on offer. Would recommend this hotel if you visit Cadiz
