“Great atmosphere, good food and the finest Flamenco”

La Cava Taberna Flamenca
Ranked #1 of 46 Nightlife in Cadiz
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 3, 2012

While visiting Spain in September, we spent an evening at La Cava in Cadiz, known to many as the home of Flamenco. We had been told that the performers respond best and really give their all when the audience is responsive to them. What we witnessed was indeed proof of that, as a magical evening unfolded...two female dancers and one male dancer, plus a singer and a terrific guitarist entertained us...two sets with a short break in-between. After much closing applause and far more than a smattering of "Olay"s, audience members were invited to join in. Judy did, earning a loud "Olay" of her own. This is not to be missed!

I had some preconceptions before going to this place as I read some of the reviews of (surely non flamenco experts) tourists and indeed there were a lot of tourists in the room. I changed my mind first when I asked some "gaditanos" about references and all told me that La Cava was performing good flamenco, then when I saw it. And indeed, flamenco it was, keeping its soul despite a non-accustomed tourist crowd and with very good young dancers with lots of personnality and joyfulness, cadiz style. So do not hesitate to go there to see flamenco and if it is your first time I would highly recommend it as it is authentic AND accessible (some performances in flamenco need more exposure to be enjoyed). There is no point comparing with Casa Patas in Madrid or places in Sevilla, the group playing here is local and appreciated in Cadiz but wouldn't be known in Sevilla for example and the reverse. Of course if you can see a performance from world renowned artists like Sara Baras or Rafael Amargo (for dance), or Vicente Amigo or Jose Merce..., it's a different story (and there will be hundreds of people and not 15 like here). But it would be like saying one won't go to a concert from the pop group of your choice because it is not as famous as Madonna ....
Prices were very reasonnable as well.

Average tourist-oriented flamenco. Dancers were appealing although not as skilled as those we have seen at Casa Patas in Madrid and the Casa de Memoria in Seville. For those new to flamenco, this will give an idea of the tablao experience. Fun, but not outstanding.

Went with mum as part of a trip from our cruise. Had a fab time. Nice tapas and sangria. Excellent dancing and music. Thought it was going to be very touristy but was very authentic and we loved it. Could have stayed all day watching the dancing.

Authentic and thoroughly enjoyable! Gave us a taste of real flamenco- set in an intimate setting- three dancers; one singer and a guitarist who all performed at a very high standard.
Close by - within 5 min walking distance.
They was no problems with taking photographs.
