“Fabulous hotel at last!!”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

Stayed at this hotel on an intrepid trip and finally had a decent night sleep. Great hotel in terrific location. Hotel was very clean large rooms friendly staff and included a substantial breakfast. Setting was idyllic. Lots of local places to eat and drink and walking distance to attractions. What a great little town. Also experienced a hamman bath and massage which was only 5 mins walk. Best of all hotel was quiet location. I will definitely return to this hotel

Room Tip: No lift so have to carry bags to upper levels. Also hotel is a series of building along the street...

The location of this hotel makes it an ideal base for the sights of the old town. The hotel has a cool and pleasant enclosed patio, next to which is a cold water dispenser. The bedrooms are good sized and so was our bathroom which had an over bath shower and there was always plenty of hot water.

Breakfast (5 euros) was taken in the sister hostal a few doors down the street. A good choice was provided with cereals, yogurts, cold meats, cheese, bread, together with a warm selection. Tea, coffee and orange juice were also provided. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

The hotel is a short walk from the Mezquita and there are many restaurants nearby to choose from.

The purpose of our visit to Cordoba was the patio festival which takes place annually in early May. You get an opportunity to view the otherwise closed areas when the owners open up to the public. The owners take great pride in their beautiful patios and compete for cash prizes. We viewed all 58 patios (free of charge) and not one disappointed, they are a blaze of colour and some must have contained around 600 or more pots, all strategically placed on walls. Make sure you have comfortable footwear!

The gardens of the Alcazar and the courtyards of the Palacio Museo de Viana are at their best at this time of the year.

We had a memorable four nights in Cordoba and Hotel Maestre was an ideal choice.

A really nice hotel in an andalusian house. Small charming rooms with all you need. Walking distance from the Mezquita, but far enough from the crowd.
If you go by car, one advice: forget your GPS or you will get lost in a web of ancient narrow streets. Just follow the signs for "hoteles casco historico" until the sign for Hotel Maestre appears.

I had a very small room, but it was clean and quiet. The hotel is within easy walking distance of
all the obligatory tourist sites and the shopping district. Breakfast was OK, but it was in another
building a few doors down the street, and the dining area was somewhat cramped. On street
parking may be free, but don't count on it being available. We got one of the last parking spots
in the hotel garage. I would like to give a warning on shopping at a very well appointed and
attractive store next to La Mezquita that is called Galerias Turisticas. Nadal porcelain figurines
in this store are 40 to 50 percent more expensive than exactly the same items in stores in
Ronda.

We arrived at 8 and they were able to provide a room in the hostel, parking (on street - free). The hostel is basic, the air conditioning was noisy but you get what you pay for (35 euro). We had brought something to eat which they suggested we had on the terrace. Overall, clean and suitable for our needs. Just a 5 minute walk from the Mezquita and all the other sites of interest.

This hotel wasn't my original choice but wanting to stay in Cordoba for 3 nights at the end of the Patio Festival meant that room prices were through the roof. As it happens we probably couldn't have found anywhere better and - through an advance payment deal with Olotels - we didn't pay too much either.

Our room (303) was quiet, clean and plenty big enough for the two of us and our luggage. It had all the necessities and even a tiny bath (along with a vigorous shower). The bed was extremely comfortable and the aircon (crucial when temperatures were hitting 40 degrees C) was effiicient and quiet. Breakfast (taken at the nearby hostal) was perfectly adequate although the coffee was not the best!

Reception was friendly and welcoming and all the staff were able to deal with our queries.

Best of all is the location. Cordoba was inundated with tour groups (why do people want to travel like that?) at the weekend but Plaza del Potro, just behind the hotel, is enough off the beaten track to avoid the worst of the groups whilst close enough for entertaining people watching. After visiting the City and its terrific attractions we made the short trek back past the hotel to enjoy superb lunches at Fusion (terrible name great food) and Taberna del Potro on the square with views down to the Guadalquivir. A quick mention also for Casa Rubio for tasty oxtail. In fact Cordoba is a great eating out place all round.

We travelled by the brilliant AVE train service from Madrid using Spanish Rail Service in London who dealt with all the tickets and obtained big discounts through the Spanish Senior Rail Card (Tarjeta Dorada) which they also sorted for us. Terrific. The bus stop is right outside the station. Pick up no.5 at the end of the line - last on the right - and get off at San Fernando (just press the button when it appears as the next destination on the display by the driver). It drops you off a few metres above and across the road from the Hotel which, anyway, is clearly marked. You catch the return to the station by going left out of the hotel, down to the river, turn left and find the bus stop a few metres along.

We can't wait to go back to wonderful Cordoba and we'll stay in the Maestre again - but it will be off peak and we'll try to avoid the weekends!

When we arrived the female receptionist offered to park our car in the basement of the hotel - professional driving - and free of charge since we brought along our copy of Le Routard. The hostel is very nice and extremely well situated within a short walking distance from the old city and the impressive Mesquita. Go and see it in the morning - with less visitors and free of charge. Our appartment was quite spacious and with 3 large windows directly to the street and a line of nicely smelling orange trees in blossom. Only one bedroom but quiet and with 4 beds. And the price: Only 46 Euro - real good value for money.

P.S. You may have a nice breakfast including freshly pressed orange juice at the bar in the next street for 1.90 Euro!
