“Great Argentinian steaks in Cordoba”
Reviewed December 23, 2012 via mobile

When we visited La Tranquera in November, it was rated as the number to restaurant in Cordoba. We were looking for something different than the typical Spanish fare such as tapas we had been eating all week. Argentinian steak sounded great to us.

Unfortunately we had to wait 'till 8.30pm for the restaurant to open at night, unlike the restaurants more aimed at tourists visiting Cordoba in the neighborhood... A typical Spanish thing though.

As it was already rather late, we decided on just a main course, the Argentinian 350g wood-grilled steak, one each for me and my companion. It was great and probably one of the best meals we had on our holiday. The "death-by-chocolate-cake" dessert was tempting but we decided on just the steak as it was quite the dinner already...

If you're not really into hefty steaks, there's a flip side to the menu with typical Spanish fare. Enough stuff to choose from!

We'll definitely stop by again when we are in Cordoba.

“Heaven...but NOT if you don't eat meat”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

The negatives:
- No wine/drink menu available (or certainly not handed out);
- They charged us for bread even though we never ordered any. Tut tut...;
- Selection for non meat-eaters is negligible. The alternatives do taste stunning (one of us ordered "empanada" and "nido de gambas"), but they aren't main dishes- the portions were the size of appetizers...
In other words, if you don't like or can't eat meat, you're stuffed --- and please don't say a €9 salad is a serious alternative in the year 2012.

The positives:
- Very very nice romantic atmosphere and tasteful décor;
- If you like meat, it's heaven. Seriously INCREDIBLY nice steak (reported back the one who ordered a massive "solomillo de buey" which was barbecued to perfection and served with massive potato chunks and a nice salad);
- Polite, super-attentive and prompt service. Absolutely on the ball;
- The desserts! Seriously, try some because they're out of this world;
- Obviously the location, just a stone's throw from the Mezquita.

One final note. The steaks are generally cooked a touch rarer than you ask for. For example, if you ask for it medium rare, you may get it rare. Just bear this in mind if you are fussy about how well your meat should be cooked.

“Trip Advisor, you didn't let us down !”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

La Tranquera restaurante is very unique. We chose it from TA's Best Restaurants in Cordoba, where it currently features as number 3.

When we arrived we were a little uncertain whether to enter or not. There were no menus outside to read and no prices advertised, unlike all the other reastaurants in the area. Finally we decided to ask if we could see a menu.

We were greeted at the door by a lovely young woman who said they didn't have menus in English but she would explain everything to us and help us to choose. She was so helpful and we were soon making our choices.

La Tranquera is a combination of Cordoban, Spanish and Argentinian food. We decided to share starters so that we could all get a "taster". We began with some delightful pastries (Empenadas) and a croquette of iberian ham with potatoes. It was all delicious and we would have been happy with either of the dishes as a main course.

We were rather boring with our mains as we all chose the grilled rib-eye steaks. When they arrived they didn't look like a rib-eye cut that we were used to in the UK, they were more like a New York strip, BUT, they were tender and very tasty. They were accompanied by slices of fried potatoes rather than the usual fries.

For dessert we had the "Volcan chocolate" - WOW - you just have to try it. Chocolate heaven and so beautifully presented that it was a shame to spoil it, but spoil it we did!

We had a bottle of house white wine and a bottle of house red and the total bill came to 103 euros including tax.

All in all a very good restaurant - thank you TA.

“Superior In Every Way”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

Spectacular, romantic meal, from wine and appetizer, through entrees and dessert. Service was impeccable (the waiter took the time to explain the menu in English), decor is enchanting, music playlist was eclectic.

La Tranquera has two vinos tintos (house reds) - one from Argentina, one from Córdoba. We had one of each - to start. Then a creamy, crispy, flaky pollo empanada with a balsamic reduction.

We weren't up for the heaviness of a steak (which is kind of silly at an Argentinian steak house, we know), but had two outstanding entrees - a capelli (ravioli) filled with pumpkin in a light cream sauce infused with orange, and grilled / fried vegetables, just perfect. And two more glasses of the Córdoban house red.

Dessert was a "pancake" - a crepe filled with a creamy soft warm caramel served on a slab of black slate. It was ridiculously indulgent. Only three nights left in Códoba, and we already have reservations at Regadera and Salmorejeria Umami for two of them. Which one of the three gets our third night? La Tranquera is in the pole position at this point.

Meal was €38 for an appetizer, four glasses of wine, two entrees and a dessert - felt like a bargain.

“Great food and nice atmosphere”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Great Argentinian steaks. Tried the entrana and churrasco - both excellent! Nice atmosphere and decor, with good service. Surprised to find such a great place in the centre of the tourist district.
