Hostel La Corredera
Ranked #22 of 39 Cordoba B&B and Inns
Reviewed January 1, 2014

This hostel sits on Plaza Corredera in central Córdoba with its entrance tucked away in a corner of the square. The rooms overlook this huge space outdoor space which has both advantages, in that you can get a great view of the hustle and bustle, and disadvantages in that it can get pretty noisy until the very early hours.
The rooms were neat and tidy, though perhaps a little small but with large windows overlooking the plaza the room did feel bright and airy. The toilets and shower rooms weren’t too far away from the rooms and were kept clean during our entire stay.
The wifi was temperamental though much better once the owner restarted the router. There’s just one guy working here (or at least there seemed to be) and at times he seemed to be spread a little thinly but despite is lack of English we found him to courteous and helpful.
The stairs into the hotel and to the rooms are steep, if you’re a backpacker its fine but I wouldn’t like to try and lug a suitcase up and down them. The building though has plenty of character and it would be a huge detriment to it if it were to change.

Even though I say a night, I stayed here 4 nights in total.
It is quite cheap and therefore did not expect too much of it. The guy was pretty nice, however the woman could be a bit rude now and then. They have a pretty terrace upstairs which is appreciated.
A little irritating was the strict checkin and checkout. Since they have no reception there is a set time and this have to be followed. Therefore you cannot check in before 10:00 or leave your luggage after 14:00-

Room was small but clean. Staff knows very little English as unfortunately expected in Spain. No AC or TV were in our room. One celling fan centered in a middle of the room with a single overhead light. They gave us an extra fan for cooling. Clean shared bathrooms, two for each floor. Both had showers, toilettes and sinks. Poor wi-fi reception. Very narrow hallways which make it difficult to maneuver your luggage.
We heard constant mechanical noise from the automatic light switcher on the hallway all night long.
There are better hostels in the 5 minutes walk for the same price.

Found this accommodation just what we expected. Situated very conveniently within walking distance of Mesquita and the shopping centre. The rooms on 3 floors were very nice and our request for extra pillows was in our rooms. The stairs were very narrow and as we only had hand luggage we negotiated them without mishap. With the shared bathrooms on the floors, they were very clean. The Plaza was a hub of activity, with bars, music and stalls, and the noise at night didn't disturb our stay. We enjoyed our stay immensely.

We found the staff (Esther) very welcoming. She emailed us in advance to confirm our arrival time, and everything was in order when we arrived. Our room was right at the top: three flights of stairs, but luckily we had little luggage, and was on the small side (but this is a fonda, not a hotel), but very clean and perfectly adequate. Clean shared bathroom facilties on each floor. The streets below were noisy (we were there Friday to Sunday), but only in a typically Spanish way. Live music on Saturday night outside the hotel's bar was loud, but if you really didn't want to go and listen, it was just about possible to sleep through it. Harder to manage was the noise from the next room, as the walls are paper-thin: an issue if your neighbours return, animatedly, in the small hours of the morning, as they probably will. However, the breakfasts available in the plaza below, the cleanliness, the situation and the price all made up for this, and we really enjoyed our stay in this authentically Andaluz family-run guest house.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing the street, rather than the plaza, for quietness. If you don't want loads of...

Positives - clean, adequately sized private room. Shared showers/toilets on each floor were also clean. Hostel is on the corner of a very large and lively square a not too long stroll from the centre. Room was front facing with small balcony area (essentially sitting on the roof tiles of the floor below) - great for people watching. Hostel has a small modern inside sitting area plus an outside sitting area upstairs with a couple of tables/chairs.

Negatives - completely paper thin walls. It was fine for us as we were out very late both nights, but otherwise noise would be a big problem - we could hear next door's conversation as if they were in the room with us. Suspect noise from square could also be an issue. You could probably find better for the money if you looked.
