“Extremely modern hotel, at heart of Old Cordoba”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2011

This hotel offers the best in modern luxury, within 2 minutes walk of some of the oldest and most interestiung sites in Cordoba. My wife and I stayed here for three nights in mid April, during a very hot spell, and it was a wonderful, cool, and relaxing haven after full days of exp[loring everything Cordoba has to offer.

The huge bed was very comfortable, the bathroom had a large whirlpool bath and double shower, and the room was possibly the cleanest we have ever stayed in. Another very nice gesture is that the minibar in the room is free at all times. The breakfasts were perhaps overpriced at 18 Euros per person, but the room rate itself was quite reasonable for such a high quality hotel. The water in the rooftop pool was vey cold, but people were still swimming, and the pool area was very welcoming with very comfortable loungers and chairs.

The interesting external cladding on the hotel is very unusual, and quite a brave design statement, but from within the bedroom it makes for very enjoyable views over the city. Unusual feature, but it definitely works.

If you seek quaint and charming, look elsewhere. But if you want 5 star modern luxury, clean lines, space, without feeling exploited, this hotel can not be bettered.

Room Tip: Car park is below ground level

This hotel was the best hotel I stayed in Spain out of 5 hotels. Its very clean and modern. The front staff was very friendly and helpful. Jacuzzi was a nice touch. The location is great. There is a taxi stand right across the street. You can access the old town from across the street as well. The only negative point is the lack of wifi in the rooms. They do offer access to internet in the business center. I would prefer to be able to access it from my laptop in the comfort of my room

Everything in this hotel is perfect, but one crucial thing. Soundproofing of rooms in horrible. Hotel is surrounded from all sides by a major roads, with constant heavy traffic. For some strange reason it seems that even the basic noise protection is missing in the rooms, which makes the stay and sleep in this hotel very problematic. I've initially thought that the problem was with my room, so have asked to move to another one. I was shown several other rooms in the hotel but it turned out that all of them suffered from the same problem. At the end I've opted for a room on the top floor, which was slightly better off, but still not good enough.

This is really a huge pitty, as on all other accounts this is really a wonderful hotel. It has fantastic location, just accross the street from old town, very spacious rooms, elegant design, excellent restaurant and very welcoming staff.

However due to the noise issue I could not recommend it.

Room Tip: Try getting even numbered rooms on top floors

Great location, less than a five minute walk to the historic portion of the city. The staff was very helpful (selected a very nice restaurant and helped with hotel reservations for the next night). The parking was under the hotel, much easier to access than the hotels within the historic area. The free mini-bar was very nice. We will stay there again if we go back to Cordoba. The rooms were very modern.

Conveniently situated, the hotel is ultra modern on the inside. Regrettably it is a victim of design over practicality. You cannot see out of the picture windows because the outside is shrouded in permanent brown "netting". The rooms are attractive, but not user friendly; the shower floor hurts your feet, and there is nowhere to put the golfball-shaped soap, which falls on the floor. These are minor issues, but inexcusable in a premium hotel. The management and the designer should stay overnight to understand the irritations.

Don't let the hotel's strangely rusted exterior fool you - the interior is beautiful, modern and very upscale looking. My husband and I stayed here for three nights at the end of February as part of our nine-day trip to Spain, and found it to be the nicest of three hotels we visited while in this country.

First of all and possibly the most important - it was CLEAN. The only issue I had with the housekeeping was that the wall behind the sinks had spatters (toothpaste from previous guests, I'm assuming) and it would have been nice if these had been wiped down. Other than that the floors, bed and bathroom areas were spotless.

The lobby downstairs was beautifully decorated with a mixture of glass, leather, crystal in tones of black/gray/cream that had an art deco/vintage quality to it. Very, very aesthetically pleasing. There is a desktop computer with high-speed internet in the lobby for guest use.

Please note parking is not free - we were given a rate of 18 Euros/24 hours and if you retrieve your car before this time is up, this is pro-rated. However, it is possible to find free parking in the surface lots around the hotel (this takes some effort and diligence because they go quickly).

The location was fantastic for what we wanted to do, which was to see cultural landmarks. The gateway to the old city is about five minutes' walking distance from the hotel, and once inside you will find a wealth of beautiful alleys, shops and small museums to explore. We couldn't have been happier with where the hotel was situated.

I will note that we were initially given a room where as soon as we walked in we were hit by a terrible, sewage-like odor coming from the toilet area. We tolerated it for about an hour and then asked for our room to be changed, which they graciously did, but oddly the employee who came up said he couldn't smell anything. Our new room was a little more spacious but had a connecting door to the next room. We didn't see this as a problem until our second night when the people staying next door WOULD NOT stop talking at very high volumes. We could hear every word (although we didn't understand it, as they spoke Spanish) and we were unable to sleep. We called the front desk at midnight to ask them to handle the issue, but the extremely loud, nonstop talking (yelling?) continued. At 3 AM we called the front desk again because we were exhausted and wanted to be able to go sightseeing the next day. The front desk did call our neighbors (we could hear the phone ring in the next room) and it did quiet down for a few hours, but around 6:30 AM it started back up again. After that we asked for a room change (didn't want someone else's lack of courtesy to ruin our vacation!) and were offered our initial stinky room! We declined and they finally put us in a different room on another floor and gave us an apology note with some fresh sliced fruit and Voss water.

As for the room itself, again it was beautiful but the bed was definitely on the firm side. Bathroom privacy was somewhat of an issue because the smoked glass wall and door to the toilet area has gaps that are not the best visual/sound/olfactory barrier. Also, while the glass enclosure for the dual rainshower/jetted tub area is great for couples, it probably would pose a problem for families since it offers no privacy while showering. We really liked the back lit open closet and appreciated the in-room safe. Big plus: free minibar! We don't drink alcohol, but they stock with an assortment of juices and soft drinks as well, which was a very nice perk (the pineapple juice was delicious). The bottle opener is right inside the mini-fridge on the shelf. The room could have been better with free in-room wi-fi (we couldn't even get free wired internet) but we dealt with it by using the free internet in the lobby.

Staff were pretty friendly and most spoke some English. Between their skills and our attempts at Spanish we did okay.

There was no iron in the room....or in the hotel (you can send your clothes out for ironing services, but it costs about 4-5 euros per article of clothing). So we'd recommend bringing clothes that don't require pressing (our linen pants would not fit that bill!) or bring along an iron or steamer. We sort of got around our problem by hanging clothing in the shower enclosure on hangers and letting the steam from our showers release the wrinkles (the results weren't perfect, but at least we were sort of presentable).

We would definitely stay here again.
