“Best tapas in Almeria”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013 via mobile

Amazing menu, both traditional tapas (served with each drink) and larger dishes. Price is extremely good considering the quality and choice.

“Excellent & Cheap”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2013

We visited this tapas restaurant at midday during the Easter holiday in 2013 after finding it in the Michelin guide. It is tucked away down a side street and it quite small inside although it does have some outdoor seating.
It was fantastic for the price. We ordered about 8 tapas between 2 which consisted of:

Potatas Bravas
Crunchy Cannelloni
Hake Pie with Wasabi
Artichokes with clam vinaigrette
Frois Gras with roasted apples
Salmon toast with yogurt
Ox cheek in red wine (very good)

The waitresses didn't speak much English but that just added to the excellent quiet atmosphere.

Very good and would definitely visit again if I was in the area.

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

Do you know this feeling when you sit in a restaurant and when the first plate arrives you simply know that the cook has fun with his job and that the food will simply be GREAT even before you've tried it :)? It is so here... Creative tapas, interesting flavours, great fun! And extremely pocket-friendly too!

“Beyond comparison: Tapas it ain't! A foodies delight is what it is!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2013

I am sorry to disagree with my fellow Trip Advisors below but the Taberna Vasca does not do tapas. In fact the comparison is misleading, surely tapas is offered as an accompaniment to a drink in a range of traditional dishes served in equally traditional brown earthenware dishes. Here the food is more important than the drink. Much more important. There is no comparison. Cleverly concocted, carefully prepared mini-dishes of a combination of ingredients to give untold flavours are artistically presented on dark slate platters. Magnificent! And all priced at 2-3 euros. Wonderful! Some of the earlier reviews compare the Taberna Vasca with the Blumenthal's molecular menu. The comparison is demeaning: frighteningly expensive little choice in a converted pub compared to an authentic wood panelled old Spanish tavern offering superb value and a dozen or more dishes from which to choose.(If you didn't go to the Fat Duck the money you saved would give you a whole week in Almeria!) So foodies of the world
unite and seek out this place whilst standards are so high and prices so low. The Taberna Vasca is beyond comparison.

“ideal spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

Visited this place on recommendations - glad we did. Very tasty tapas, full portions, beer, wine etc, at reasonable prices. Good service, very willing to work with our broken Spanish, menu translated to English. Located on pedestrian street, nice tables outside. Someone in the kitchen really cares about what they are sendiing out! Innovative food, you can tell they have a loyal following that doesn't want to get bored so it keeps them on their toes.
As Americans we ate combo late lunch/early dinner and this fit perfectly at 3pm. Still can't adapt to the 9pm big dinner thing. So go for a long hike in Cabo de Gata and then to Almeria to feast at Taberna Vasca!
