This is not like other Spanish museums. The use of technology and personal guides make a really good experience. This was our second visit and we will be taking other guests to see this museum in the future. Well done staff.
Book in advance to get the best out of it.

The house , formerly known as Santa Isabel , is the one on the Santa Isabel tape ie a rough but poignant draft of Strawberry fields , and the inspiration of the song as it reminded John of his childhood , when he and Pete Shotton would play hide and seek in the grounds

If you´re planning to stay for less than a week in Almería, then this is not one of your priorities. True, film-making is an important aspect of the recent history of this Spanish province and its people, and you can even pick up a few suggestions about amazing beaches and natural preserves to go to afterwards, but the museum has far from achieved its objective. Pros: the entrance ticket is rather cheap (peanuts, actually, if you come from abroad), and the lady guide who showed us around did a wonderful job and was very helpful; also, everything, apart from the 3-D film which was not working, was clean and tidy; interesting use of new technologies, although in places a bit too much and somewhat confusing. Cons: some small exhibition rooms and therefore if the group is large it can make the experience rather uncomfortable; rather poor on memorabilia that might have otherwise made the visit unforgettable; paintings with no relation whatsoever to the cinema; no shop to acquire the beautiful landscape pictures on show; you cannot buy any drinks or snacks either, or in the surrounding area, for that matter; if the building was ever a manor house, apart from the lovely floor tiles, one has to use one's imagination, especially if you arrive from Avenida del Mediterraneo, when you will see a bunker-like wall. I would imagine the house was in a very poor state of decay originally; I believe, however, that the restaurarion has deprived the interior as well as the gardens of their quaint and homely qualities and the beautiful vistas film stars used to enjoy. John Lennon and Strawberry Fields steal a great part of the show - undeservedly so, I think - and the video you see in the upper floor, with the veranda as the background is not entertaining at all, on the contrary, it is rather infantile. The majority of the texts and sounds are in Spanish, but there are leaflets in both English and Spanish, videos with English subtitles and the guide must be able to speak English, although I cannot confirm this, as we were part of a Spanish group. By the way, John Milius, Anthony Quinn and Sean Connery appear on video interviews - I must admit I would have liked to have seen and heart Clint's commentary!!!-,even if only for a few seconds. In case you decide to give it a try, it is most advisable to prebook your visit, I doubt the House of Cinema is open on a permanent basis, like an ordinary museum (EMAIL: casadelcine@aytoalmeria.es ). It is best if you find the exact location on Google Streetview before you go, as it is situated within a residential area (semidetached houses, building plots...) and it is not very easy to find if you do not live in Almeria.

You need to reserve by phone, but we could go to a guided visite the day following our call. Getting there on foot is not that simple (count a 30 minutes walk from the centre), so ask for directions at the touristical information office before. Interactive guided walk through the house is well done, but there aren´t a lot of exhibits. Beautiful gardens.

Very interesting - knowledgeable and well-spoken guide (Rafa), interesting displays and photo opportunity - reasonable admission price (€1,50). Remember, prior appointment necessary (phone).
