One of the reviews I read of this restaurant said 'it was the best in the word.' It isn't. But it is a great place, especially if you are a meat eater. So just what makes a restaurant great? For me it is the extra effort made... here it starts with Espadin announcing itself and letting you know where it is right away with a huge billboard just as you enter town. Then it's the extra effort in the warm greeting and the confident recommendation, followed by the extra effort in acceding to a special request, 'extra onions' meant an extra plateful. The effort in maintaining a rather special wine list. Then the effort (and skill) to so thinly slice and keep the shape of the thick T-bone steak. This is the signature dish that you cook yourself and a MUST. The extra touches like the choc bars with coffee which even those who didn't have coffee received. All rounded of with the free pouring of three liquors. Getting to Velez Rubio used to mean a windy road over the sierra. Not now! The motorway whisks you from the coast in an hour. So make the effort and take in Caves ( pre-historic paintings) and Church too ( look up to see the 300 year organ which must make the place really rock!) and Saturday is market day. Espadin is more than worthy to make the effort to go. The best restaurant in the world... the search continues.
