Well worth a visit. Agua Marga has a few excellent restaurants right on the beach serving seriously fresh fish. Elsewhere there are some wonderful beaches.

there is a string of lovely unspoiled seaside resorts at which you can stop to admire the views and take refreshments.

We enjoyed the peaceful environment of the natural park and watched the birds on the water from a hide, which was wonderful. Also had coffee in a small village and watched the fisherman sort their catch and sell fish to the locals, it was a lovely restful and interesting experience

When I say "natural" I also mean "naturist" as there is a beach that allows or even insists on no clothing.

The main thing to understand is that there are essentially two parts to the Cabo de Gata with only a footpath rather than a drivable road connecting them. The Western part is the rather uninspiring town of San Miguel de Cabo de Gata which has a quite nice waterfowl reserve but otherwise is not worth the effort.

Cross to San José and things start to get more interesting. San José is a pleasant enough place and the gateway to the two fabulous beaches, approachable by road, one of which is the naturist beach of Playa de Mónsul - here the naked and the clothed are seperated by a large rock and it is best to reserve your pitch (whichever side suits you) early to have some shade.

Going East from San José there are wonderful sights, an old gold mining village with outrageous cacti, now abandoned, fabulous views, excellent restaurants, small happy beaches (most of them stony rather than sandy) you can happly explore for many days and then go North to Nijar which is a wonderful place to buy rugs and pottery. I do not recommend going past Agua Amarga as it takes you out of the magic of this coast and into the commercialism of Mojacar and its satellites.

You could easily spend a week here, it starts in sight of Almeria airport and a cheap rental car will allow you to visit everywhere.

Came here in March and the scenery was spectacular and weather was hot and sunny. I imagine in might be a little too hot in midsummer but the temperature was perfect in March. Great for those who love natural scenery, mountains, desert, salt pans and great beaches, all pretty much unspoilt with most of the people around being Spanish rather than English or German! The flowers at this time of year were very pretty and it was great fun trying to spot famous film locations here and it the Tabernas desert.
