If you like tranquility and bird watching this is ideal. Even though we visited in October there was still a flock of straggling flamingo's on the lagoon which is great to see. There is a visitors centre where you can watch a video with English subtitles that have an interesting take on the English language! You can also hire bikes and binoculars and there appeared to be guided tours. This is a good stop off place if your visiting Antequerra.

Best time to go is early spring ..February to May time. By summer july/August the lagoon has dried up and is mainly salt and the flamingoes have migrated... But a few stragglers still there!
Interesting video presentation with English sub- titles.
Cycle hire, and walking tracks around lagoon.

Went to Fuente de Pierda yesterday and the flamingos have not arrived this year. April and May should be the peak leading to breeding in June and July but he water level is way down leaving only mud in some parts of the lake.

Good visitor centre but poor viewing. Try again next year.

What a magical place this is.... on first arrival at the lakes you are greeted by lots of ducks and many types of wading birds, digging around in the silt. There are lots of walkways of varying distances that you can take around the lake and areas of marsh land, where birds congregate and feed. We found the best place to view the many flamingos still on the lake was just below the visitor centre.

The visitor centre itself would be very informative if it was in English and catered more for tourist visitors. It doesn't really offer any amenities only a toilet. A small cafe or unobtrusive shop selling drinks would have been good.

All in all a very pleasant way to spend a few hours out, enjoying peace and quiet and fresh air.

This is my forth trip to the laguna. Having been there at different times of the year, i would say February has been the best so far. The mirrored views of the lagoon are occasionally broken only by the birds as they change their location. This is a very cheap way of having a pleasant day out
